I would like to share my experience with this clock repair shop. The owner, Jan, agreed to repair my cuckoo wall clock. The problem was that the clock was losing about four hours. Two days later, I received a message saying the problem had been fixed and that I could pick up the clock. I was asked to pay in cash, which, unfortunately, turned out to be a mistake. Just three days after the repair, it became clear that nothing had changed. The clock was still losing time exactly as it had before. I called the shop several times and left messages explaining that the problem had not been resolved. The owner only answered after I called from a different phone number. After listening to me again, Jan said there was nothing more he could do. When I asked him to refund at least part of the money for a repair that had not solved the problem, he refused. Unfortunately, I was left with the impression that I paid for a repair that did not actually fix the issue. I want to warn potential customers: if you decide to use this shop, make sure to ask in advance what warranty is provided and what happens if the repair does not solve the problem. I had my timex repaired at The Clock shop to the tune of $450 in 2020. Recently the crystal fell off and I took the watch to another shop. Found out that not only was crystal the wrong size/shape (and plastic), but was glued in place, which is why if popped out in the first place. Premium price for a DIY solution. Marizza and John are the best! We got a watch battery and the band replaced and they did incredible. Marizza walked us through what she did and went above and beyond cleaning the inner mechanisms as well as polishing the watch before replacing the band and making sure the watch was working perfectly. I had my first visit a few dats ago and was thoroughly impressed. You see, while am still have the same high expectations for customer service, I am usually disappointed with many retail establishments. Not The Clock Shop. The battery on my watch died and I was getting cranky looking at my naked wrist where my watch once sat. After a day of this insanity I did a quick google search and The Clock Shop came up. I called bc I couldn't tell if they offered this service. The guy answered the phone right away and said they did. Yay! I bring it into the shop and the woman who worked there was in the middle of a repair and asked if I could leave it for a few hours and she would call me when it was ready. Fair enough! She called in a few hours and am came back to a cleaned and polished watch. It looked BRAND NEW. Not only that but she told me they guarantee their work for ONE FULL YEAR. Get out! I have never had that type of warranty offered before. It cost $20, which for me seemed a little steep at first, but, I do love what they did with it and it didn't end in the landfill. Told the bill was $500, on my credit card. On my credit card statement is $530 charge. Not provided with an itemized bill. This clock isn't worth $500. Feel ripped off. I don't think I will drive 200 mile round trip to have them fix any more of my clocks. Outrageous price for poor workmanship. read more

True said it was an easy fix, showed me how to fix the problem if it happens again...and didn't charge me...all that and a big smile too. Seems to be a one man operation and it's pretty good. Took our old family cuckoo clock by, it had not worked for years. They basically rebuilt the clock and now it works! Cuckoos on the hour and half-hour. Not cheap! Cost us over $200, but we wanted that clock back! After we got the clock back, it developed a slight problem keeping time. My wife was in there today to ask if they could fix the light on an old Timex Iniglo watch. My wife stated to them that the clock still worked that the light did not. The lady behind the counter said they would call her when it was ready. The shop did not call back. My wife called them almost 4 hours later and they said to come pick it up. They stated that they could not fix the light but put a new battery in it and charged her $25 for the service. The watch belongs to a 99 year old man that my wife works for and needs the light at night to see what time it is. $25 was wasted because she needs to go buy a new watch anyway. I read the reviews but they were mixed - some with great reviews and others complaining about the shop being closed during business hours. The good reviews were so good that I drove out from Sellwood on a Wednesday around 12:10. Guess what? Shut tight. Hours posted are 11-5. No sign or anything explaining why they were closed. I'm sorry to say I have to leave a poor review of this business. They "cleaned" my grandfather clock 5 years ago. It never worked right for me after it was returned. I wanted to have the clock cleaned as it had been quite a few years - probably 20 - since it had been cleaned previously. It was running slow. After the clock was returned, it was still slow, and additionally the chimes were slower than before the service. They sounded so sad that I finally just put the clock on silent. Today I accidentally knocked the pendulum off when I was winding the clock. I called a different clock service and the technician came to the house this evening. He inspected the clockworks and told me that he doubted the clock had really been cleaned 5 years ago. He showed me several things that caused him to doubt that it had been thoroughly cleaned. (I understand that some dirt can happen in five years time.) He said that slow chimes happen when the clock is dirty or something is wrong inside. This happened immediately after the clock was returned to me. His suggestion was that I call these folks back and tell them to do it better, but I will not use them again. I sent the clock away with this other business for a real cleaning. He told me he has a pretty long wait time because he's busy, and he keeps the clock running in his shop for at least two weeks to be sure it's done right. I consider the money spent previously to be water under the bridge. I want my clock back and running nicely. It's not fancy but it has great sentimental value. I'll leave a review for the other shop once the work is done rather than mention it here. read more

Walked in to have my Casio strap repaired as the pin that held it in had popped out and gotten lost. They had it fixed with a new pin in less than 2 minutes, and no charge! Will be taking some older watches I have back here for cleaning/repair when the time comes. Highly recommend!!! read more

They had no idea how to fix my Omega Constellation watch which I inherited from my mother. I felt ripped off for being charged $120.00 for returning my watch to me with a metal piece taken out of it and informing me that she used double sided tape to keep the mechanism working. Incredible. I initially should have taken my watch to an AUTHORIZED Omega dealer. I am disgusted with how her fake pleasantries convinced me to leave my watch with her to begin with. I returned to show the owner how my watch was not keeping time. She said she would call me back after contacting the OMEGA corporation to inquire how much it would be to send it to the factory. Not a single return call since Oct 2018. True lesson to be learned, let the buyer beware. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. I would rather give this place ZERO stars if I could. read more

These people might fix a clock that needs its cuckoo back or a watch that needs a battery BUT there is good evidence validated by two excellent watchmakers that they severely oversell their expertise with vintage watches. My 1895 Elgin pocket watch was worse after they "serviced" it. They replaced 4 screws in the wrong holes and then accused me of lying when I said the watch had worked before they got it. After I sent the watch to a Master in Seattle, it was again as it should be, but there was no refund from them of the high price they had surprised me with. I had asked for an estimate but never got one. The bill was for $295! which was way too much given their level of inexpertise. read more

This shop has been a part of Portland for many years. The owners are caring and courteous people who do the work in their shop, not contracting out. I was given a Mickey Mouse watch by my niece and nephew about 20 years ago and it has great sentimental value to me, so I wear it every day. It has died off on me twice, needing the works to be replaced. I have trusted John and Marizza to repair it each time and they have never let me down. Because of their expertise, Mickey is again on my wrist, much to my sister's amazement. Their prices are fair and their work is excellent. I would not trust my timepieces to anyone other than them. I'm sure these guys are very good at what they do if you can ever get their attention. Practically however they are next to impossible to do business with. They clearly have no regard for their customers time. If you drop off work and call to check on it, they are often busy and say they'll call back. They won't. They are famous for completely ignoring their posted business hours. Call in advance, you say? Sadly, even if you call in advance and ask if they will be open, there is little guarantee that they will actually be open when you arrive. Very good at coming up with excuses, but far short of delivering acceptable customer service. Completely undependable. I will not do business with them again. If there were no other clock shops in Portland, I would drive to Eugene before giving work to these guys. UPDATE: to the owner's credit, he genuinely wants to make it right and offered to deliver the clock to my home. Maybe I'd go back to him. I don't know. If you do business with him, just set your expectations appropriately. He just isn't all that interested in being in his shop. read more

I took my grandparent's antique anniversary clock in, which had not been working as the timing mechanism was off and the suspension wire had broken. The clock had never run consistently or with the right timing in the two years I have owned it, after getting it serviced somewhere else. Since I have brought it home it has kept very accurate time and is a joy to see siting on the mantle. The owners are very sweet and did a great job. The main complaint on yelp is that they keep irregular hours, which is true. It took about four tries over a couple of weeks to find them open at work and you are not able to leave a voicemail on their phone, but as far as workmanship, you cannot beat the quality you will get at The Clock Shop. I found this shop on Yelp, needing a Princess (small Grandfather) clock repaired. I found their service friendly, professional, and competent. I subsequently brought in my grandfather's pocket watch for a major overhaul - hadn't work for 50 years - now works fine. I recently had a problem with the Princess clock. I brought it back; they took the clock apart again and replaced the second hand. No charge. I like shops that stand behind their work. Some of the negative reviews seemed to be based on frustration over their experience of their quirky hours - I have not had that problem. I really try when I'm able to support small businesses, and I also like to keep my dollars local. I was happy to find that Montavilla had its own clock repair business. I took a couple of salvaged thrift store clocks in and my to my dismay, it was $110 to repair the movement pieces (two on one clock, one on the other). Quite expensive for thrift store clocks, but I went ahead. Unfortunately, after getting my new pricey clocks home, much to my chagrin, neither was working. As others have mentioned, they keep odd hours, and I work a standard set of hours, so it's not easy for me to work around their schedule. But, I called the shop and they offered to fix the clocks. Great. Well, that wasn't the end of it. I wound up with one of the movements not working, and I attempted to call the shop. No response. I wanted to like this place but am very disappointed and wouldn't recommend. I went in to ask for a new cord on a wall clock and was told they couldn't replace a cord but would recommend "batterizing" it. Nearly two months and $75 later I finally have it back. It no longer has a second hand and the minute and hour hands were replaced with a different style. In addition, the old mechanism was thrown out making it difficult to go somewhere else and get it restored. Buyer beware. read more
