We contacted the CleanUP Guys, we settled on $800 or so for services, and they were able to resolve, remove, remediate the patches of mold in our basement within 1 business day after the initial site visit. They provided a mold remediation certificate shortly thereafter which served as evidence to the buying attorney that we handled the mold in our basement. We are happy customers. Sherman (owner) was very responsive in his emails as well. Mike and his team restored our basement to its former glory after it was destroyed by a broken sump pump. The company that we hired to perform the water mitigation did not do as thorough of a job, however Mike and his team rectified all of that without a second thought. We were extremely please with the communication, professionalism, and attention to detail The CleanUp Guys put to our situation. We were notified by our tenants that the sewage was backing up every time the toilets were flushed. Once the backup issue was addressed I contacted The CleanUp Guys and Julius responded in a very timely manner. I sent him a picture of the mess that was left behind and he was there the same day. My biggest concerns were concerns of illness due to bacteria, etc. Julius was in constant contact with me and provided pictures when the job was complete. The place was cleaned and sanitized. These guys are awesome!! I contacted the company and got an appointment just 2 days later on the Memorial Day Holiday. I had an odd cleaning job request for a 6 flat condo building that is self managed. I needed debris and dirt trapped under the staircase of a back porch area cleaned up. In addition, we had the basement walkway outside of the storage units cleaned. Two guys came out with the equipment needed to complete the work. They hauled away bags of trash and shoved piles of debris, then swept, and power washed all areas cleaned with a fresh scent. They were quick and efficient and I'm extremely happy with the results. So if you need a couple of guys to clean up and you're not looking to wait days for an appointment, these guys are it! I'm planning to make them part of our ongoing building maintenance and up keep. Hired this company to do water mitigation, And wrongly trusted that they would do a comprehensive job. Now we are finding out that they pretty much ignored removing water from under the floors, and I am dealing with a nightmare. Their only response to this is that I must have had some subsequent incident. Which is absolutely ridiculous. As though I wouldn't know if there was a subsequent incident. The CleanUp guys are Phenomenal! The lead technician Cesar explained all of the problems and scenarios with his initial assessment. We had major water damage from a leak in my basement. I was initially devastated since I had items that have been Passed from generation to generation stored in the basement. I thought everything would have to be thrown out ( Assessment from previous company, I won't mention names), but Cesar explained the three types of water damage and reassured me I had the "clean water" type and most of my items would be salvaged and at a much more reasonable price! I just wanted to say that Sherman and the clean up guys were a life saver! I had a sale set on my house and the inspection report showed a little mold in my basement. I was very worried that the mold was gonna prevent the deal from going through....I made numerous calls to a few different companies and hands down Sherman was the most professional and reasonable. This is one of the most unprofessional businesses I have ever dealt with. Between the failure to meet their stated appointment times, to flat out lying and failing to meet their full satisfaction guarantee. I wish I had listened to the negative reviews on Yelp, instead of giving the benefit of the doubt. I was searching for a steam carpet cleaning service in Chicago, so I contacted The CleanUP Guys for a quote. Sherm was very pleasant via email at first and we agreed on a time and price. 3 days later, my former landlord informed me that a significant stain the living room had not been taken care of and when he attempted to contact them they claimed that the stain was not there when they left the original appointment (This was not true and as I would soon find out, this was lie #1 in a series of lies that I would continue to be told as I attempted to resolve this). At this point, I asked Sherm for a refund or a definite date of when the stain would be taken care of. Sherm then informed me that not all stains were removable and that they would try again but removing it was not guaranteed. This contradicts their "Full Satisfaction Guarantee" listed on their site (see: http://www.thecleanupguys.com/Carpet-Cleaning.html ) (lie #4). Additionally, in the same page it states that they would inform the customer of any tricky or tough stains that they wouldn't be able to remove. This did not happen, I had to alert them of this stain that wasn't taken care of the first time. I informed Sherm of this policy and requested that they follow through on their guarantee to at least attempt to clean up the stain one more time as I had been promised. Sherm replied that someone would call me on Saturday, June 12th and that possibly they could come out to fix the stain that same day (lie #5). Of course no one did call me and my last email was never responded to. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this issue amicably and give them the chance to make things right, I can honestly say that this is one of the worst businesses I have ever dealt with and their failure to make things right after multiple attempts only proves it. read more

Short version: These are a bunch of unprofessional scammers. Look somewhere else for professionals or you'll end up in a worst situation than you are in right now. Detailed version: What could go wrong with a simple carpet cleanup? Well, I hired the Cleanup Guys to clean up the carpet in my basement because i had a sewage overflow a few days earlier. The area around the bathroom door was especially more water damaged/ dirty than the rest of the carpet since it was affected directly by the sewage water from the bathroom. The company sent one of their workers to give me an estimate, i clearly mentioned to him several times that i needed everything cleaned up, which was obvious since i was hiring a cleaning company. We agreed on the price of $465.00 and the same person showed up a few hours later to do the work. About an hour later he called me saying that he is done. To my surprise i found out that he cut my carpet without letting me know. The worker argued that it is because he could not move furniture, which was not true because everything i have in the basement is movable if he were only to ask... Also to my surprise i found out that the stain on the carpet right on the bathroom door is still there and visible, when i asked for clarification i was told that it is not what they were hired to do and that they only remove the sewage damage, he refused to do anything even though the stain was an actual sewage damage. I also showed him pieces of fecal matter that were still visible on the carped (documented in pictures and video), but he insisted that is not their job and that they cannot and will not do anything about it. Another person from the same company called my to tell me the same thing except that he was rude, unprofessional and claimed that i was trying to "rip them off". As things stand right now, my carpet is ripped off and cut up, but still dirty from sewage and from "$hit" (excuse the French) . Before the work started, I asked the person who came to give me an estimate, clearly, several times, whether they can clean up my WHOLE basement and get the job done and he replied "Yes" on every occasion. He never mentioned that they might or might not clean up spots on the carpet, if he did, i would have just made the decision to replace it. So basically i payed this company 465 bucks to come and cut up my carpet, remove a piece of that foam that goes under the carpet and spread the sewage dirt (fecal matter) all over the place with an outdated water vacuum... and according to them, that is called "Disinfecting and sanitizing" the area. As you may see on the pictures i took the same day, there are still pieces of $#it (excuse the word again please) all over the place. Not to mention the fact that they took dirty small rugs and put them on top of my clean furniture, and they also "professionally" moved a space heater on top of my $500 Polk Audio speaker (picture). So if you want to be ripped-off and end up with more damage to your property and furniture than you already have, the CleanUp guys is the company to hire. EDIT: 1/17/2018 In reply to Sherman's post/reply below my review. (For anybody who is reading this, look at Sherman's reply, this is how you will be treated by this company as soon as you are not satisfied with their work and/or if things go south, they will attack you and claim that you are lying). Mr. Sherman, I'll give you an A for the effort of trying to defend an indefensible position. However, you cannot sweet talk your way out of this. A lot of contractor talk the talk when it comes to customer service but only a few do the actual walk and you are not one of them as demonstrated by your attitude towards your customers. What you did was unprofessional on many levels and you have simply not finished the job you were paid to do. There was no discoloration or saturation or anything of the sort, all of that is a fabrication of your imagination. All there is, is that you could not clean the carpet properly from sewage damage as you promised. You are claiming that sewer deposits and remains were thoroughly cleaned up, and that is also simply not true because they are still there and I took pictures right after you were done "cleaning and sanitizing" then I texted you those same picture (guess you forgot about that little detail before denying... huh?), i will attach a screenshot of my text to you with those images as a proof that you are very well aware that the job is not done, yet, you are claiming otherwise. You might have gotten 5 star reviews in the past, but it looks like the quality of your service is going down, and I blame myself of hiring you and not looking at all the bad reviews that you received recently. I'm a landlord in Chicago, IL, and had a complaint from a tenant, and decided to call this company to check it out and provide a free estimate. They scheduled a worker to come out and address the possible mold in the apartment. Before I let the worker go into the apartment I distinctly informed him to only inspect the area around the front window and disclose no information to the tenant. Well, the worker returned moments later and informed me that there was mold around the window, in the bathroom, and kitchen. I was totally beside myself. I instructed the worker to check out one thing and one thing ONLY! Then he presented me with a bill of $6K to remedy the issue. I used some over the counter mold removal instead because it wasn't as bad as the worker estimated. I called management and was told flat out "sometimes they do that." The lead technician had an issue and rescheduled for the following day. When he didn't show up I texted him and was told he was tied up but my job was given to someone else who "skipped me" due to flood jobs (which obviously are pricier than my job). So I did & they told me that they had people with flooding etc whatever - basically they won't show up for me. Apparently my little studio apartment job wasn't a priority for them. I am extremely pissed cause I got ready for their cleaning & moved around a bunch of stuff. This is during the weekday too. Our 6 unit condo has used The CleanUP Guys twice in the past year, and they've been great. They arrived within 6 hours of us calling from a major water leak in the basement units, and with this most recent incident, the crew worked well past 1 a.m. to clean up all the water damage and treat for mold as quickly as possible. They returned the next day to check in on their work and finalize a few areas. In an earlier, and separate incident, another unit owner used another more well-known (and expensive) company for her water damage from an earlier water leak, and she is now fighting black mold growth, from a poor job done. However, the work done by The CleanUP Guys has kept us mold-free. I'm very thankful for their work. I took one star off only because they do not have a system for a payment plan. With the cost of proper clean-up, and since we are a smaller condo association, a longer-term pay off plan would have been ideal for us. I called this company due to the age of the company and also some of the most recent reviews. Seemed reliable and of good quality online. The gentleman that answered the line when I initially called was courteous. He collected all of the contact and property info. A few minutes later I received a call from either a project manager or the field tech. We talked very briefly about the property, the issue and quoted me the minimum over the phone which I appreciated. We didn't have too much water an area of 2x5 sq. ft. During the issue Q/A session, the tech and I talked about his torn ACL or MCL and why he cancelled his surgical repair appointment on that day. As a clinician I assured him that going under general anesthesia is the only and best way to go for surgeries such as the one he required. We talked for a total of 11 minutes. We went over the appointment details twice and I knew immediately this was the company that I wanted to hire to complete the work because he had a human voice and didn't use his sales voice. He told me to call or text him with any questions. On the day of the appointment I texted him to request that he very kindly call me 20-30 mins before his arrival so that I can put my pets in a room. No response. The appointment was for 10am, 5 hours later I called him and left a voicemail. No response. I called the office and the gentleman that answered the line assured me he would have the field tech call me within 10 mins. So I received a quote from A-Abace and The Clean Up Guys to clean my microsuede couch, and after talking to Wayne on the phone he gave me a fabulous price and said he could come the next day(Superbowl Sunday!). Him and a lovely guy named Carl came out and got right to work on my sofa. I could tell right off the bat that they fantastic, pleasant, and friendly guys that I didn't mind having in my home one bit! They made sure I was happy with the couch cleaning, and then checked a section of carpet cause they noticed that our carpet had some bad stains. (The landlord didn't clean it before we moved in). Wayne offered to clean the carpet for only $45 more!! I jumped at the chance to get the big huge stains out, called my landlord, and she said she would absolutely pay for it. All of the stains came out, including the big old traffic stain by the front door! I cannot say enough about these guys! Wayne and Carl both were knowledgable, passionate, and friendly people, I would recommend them to anyone. I'm surprised that I am the first on here to write a review. The worst customer service ever! We called them and talked to Sherm 2 weeks ago to schedule an appointment. No one ever showed up on the so called appointment day/time. Then next day one of the technician comes and throws a price gimmick at us. Did only one room (out of 4) and left without finishing the job. Wayne said "rest of the job will be done on Sunday" but he did not show up, neither did return our call. These people have some serious communication break down. Called so many times and received so many confusing calls from different technicians. Sherm said he will send someone to finish job as soon as possible. We have not heard from them even after leaving another call. We have yet to receive full service for the full price. read more

We had a pre-weekend flood from a running toilet in our basement. The insurer said they wouldn't be able to get out until the following Monday. I called Friday morning and Sherman and his crew showed up late that day and worked into the evening to contain the problem. They quickly assessed the extent of the damage, recommended a plan of action, and had removed and treated the flooded areas within hours of arriving. Every step of the way they were punctual, professional and polite. I have two areas of mild concern, neither of which would keep me from hiring these guys again. First, they left the removed, soggy carpet in garbage bags on my front lawn for two days. However, this was a function of the last-minute nature of their removal and the fact that they did not have their normal truck with them, and that it was a holiday weekend. I would have liked them to remove it a little quicker as a few neighbors took notice and commented about the waste. Second, I felt that the price charged was a little bit high for the service provided. I imagine there are services that charge less, but I'm not sure anyone could possibly do a better or more professional job. I would not hesitate to hire The CleanUP Guys again. read more

I have read some other reviews that were not so great, and the only issue I had was that it took a few days for a blower to be picked up but this was not a hardship. I had flood damage in my basement. I called These guys. They took all day to call back which is understandable due to the storm we had 2 days ago. They called back around 3 in the afternoon , came out gave us a quote. My dad asked the gentleman did we need to move anything. He said "no we got this". They didn't come back till 9 pm. Then asked us "What about this?" "What about that?" As they pointed to stuff. Then said we didn't pay for them to move or take stuff out. But said they would do it but " We could give the guys(workers) tips. Needless to say they put wet stuff on top of dry stuff. Wet stuff on table with pictures. Basically damaged even more stuff than the flood. Thanks for kicking us when we're down Clean up guys!!!! They didn't even use any dehumidifiers. Basement is extra damp. They came in and quoted me the whole job, but left me in the lurch with the carpet loose and not attached to the wall plus they took off the side board and scratched the wall in the process. They won't come back and told me to find someone else to finish the job, because "we lost our stretching guy". They want to charge me for the partial work that they did do. I can't say enough good things about the service. Mike was extremely responsive and helpful. The discussion and follow up quote was prompt and professional. The crew showed up on time and was friendly. We had a basement with 80 years of dirt and dust. The walls and floor needed to be power washed and then sealed. There was chipping paint and numerous other obstacles. On Day 1 of 2 we returned home and the basement was immaculate. I don't know how they did it. The equipment was impeccably packed up and the basement was airing out as Mike originally stated. Day 2 was painting day. Mike again arrived at stated time and sent pictures throughout the day with progress reports. We returned home that evening to a transformed basement! More than pleased.
