    My creation!

Absolutely great place to go with family and friends. I haven't tried the café section yet, so I can't exactly speak on its quality.. but the back area is so much fun. Appointment is needed, but they're very helpful in scheduling them / making changes to the appointment if need be, in my experience. In the clay cup, there's many options across all aspects of the experience. Many pottery creations to choose to paint, even more paint options (the speckled ones are awesome), and numerous tools. My favorite tool to use was the needle-ish one; it helped me make a super detailed design on my creation. It's a great bonding experience and the atmosphere is welcoming. Definitely try it out sometime !!

Great place to grab a cup of coffee or tea and hang out in downtown Altoona. Love the grilled cheese!

    A delicious iced latte.

The clay cup is a necessary breath of fresh air in the desolate wasteland that is downtown Altoona. The employees are extremely friendly, personable, and helpful. The atmosphere has the artsy, hipster appeal that one craves in a coffee shop, but does not feel stuck up or pretentious. The studio atmosphere is a nice touch. There are stairs that lead to a basement, but I was far too timid to check and see if it was for public use. I had an iced latte, which was served in a mason jar glass. It was delicious. Just what I needed after a long walk from Penn State. I hope that the clay cup will herald a new era of prosperity in downtown Altoona.

They are a fabulous pottery and art studio that I would recommend to anyone looking for a place to have fun and be yourself. I have gotten to know the owner personally, she is a wonderful person. She has a passion for what she does and it shows in every aspect of her studio. She is very talented and creates beautiful ceramic pieces which are on display and for sale at the studio. All of the people that work at UTH are also wonderful and fun to work with. Alice the studio manager is always smiling and willing to help you with whatever you need. The many volunteers that work there are awesome. Thank you Cathleen for creating wonderful pottery and art studio for the community.

It was hard to decide prices ranging from $60+ to $7. However, after browsing the selection, my mom and I picked two items each! It took me and her about 2 hours and cost $50, which wasn't bad at all. The only reason I give four stars and not 5 the workers when we walked in were just sitting talking didn't really engage with us or show us around ask if it was our 1st time I had to tell them. Also, when painting, I thought they would come around to see if we needed anything or look at our work and tell us we need more layers I had to ask. However, personally, they were still nice, just not as engaged as i would like. All in all a great experience and super fun I will be back.

We…read morehad seen the Facebook advertisement to make a coffee mug with Carlisle Ice Fest stencils. However, our experience painting pottery left us very frustrated and determined never to return to this business when we're next in town. We've painted pottery in numerous studios in Maryland and New Hampshire, so we understand the basics of the process. When we entered the studio, no one greeted us or was seemingly working there to answer our questions. We wanted to know if there was a studio fee or if that was included in the pottery prices. Despite advertising the mugs, they were not easily identified as being the special. The staff, and I'm reluctant to actually call them employees, we're giggly teenagers who were more interested in chatting then helping customers. We had to stand in the check out line to get basic questions answered and ended up waiting for the owner to come over to have the stencil process explained. In addition to the lack of support from the staff, the owner/manager was busy running an adjacent store selling teas and other goods. As a result, it appeared no one was actually managing the pottery studio. Focusing on either the pottery studio or the other store instead of poorly running both would have improved everyone's experiences. The owner was gracious enough to ship our mugs to our home in Maryland. However, the packaging was poor and resulted in chipping one mug and completely cracking the other. Luckily, we can use the Japanese kintsugi technique to salvage our mugs as candle holders instead of their intended purpose.

We've never worked with glass before, but the staff explained the decorative options well and had plenty of materials and tools available. The staff was always helpful and very friendly, and did a great job supervising the class and helping out when needed. We paid the extra $10 each to 'slump' our flat glass discs into bowl shape after they are melted. I would have liked a slightly curved plate option but that wasn't available. This requires a second run through the kiln, so the price is understandable. Sadly, it may take up to 4 weeks for the plates to finish the fusing process, although we saw some finished examples that looked gorgeous. I had one minor complaint, and that's only because I'm being nit-picky: the staff was hard to find sometimes during the class. There were plenty of staff members there, I just kept forgetting who they were since they didn't have nametags or aprons or anything to identify them.

I can't wait to go back for another Sip n' Paint event or a glass fusion class! Kim said she wanted to try doing a jewelry making class which I would definitely attend!
