I was extremely disappointed with my experience with Elise Kitchen & Catering. The services and…read morefood I received did not match what I paid for. The team arrived about an hour later than scheduled, and I was told the delay was due to the amount of food I ordered -- despite having asked the owner, Ben, two months in advance whether they had enough staff. I was told they had twenty-five employees, but based on what I observed at my event, that did not seem to be the case. The food arrived cold, even though I was charged an additional $1,000 for equipment to keep the food warm and for the staff to refill the trays. I paid for food for 70 people but received noticeably less . I ordered fried chicken breast at $7 per piece but received mostly wings and a few chicken breasts. The chicken tasted store --bought and was extremely dry. All of the sides ran out within 30 mins. Ben advised me that I ordered enough for 100 on everything but that wasn't the case. The ribs were overcooked and burnt, far from what was described. The lemon bars were also disappointing-- they were very small and one of the staff were cutting the lemon bars in half to make it bite size pieces which wasn't what I paid for. Another concern was the delivery: the food was transported on the uncovered bed of a truck? Which I found unsanitary. The staff who arrived seemed unsure of the setup and did not include all of the items I ordered. I requested a refund for the missing items, but for nearly three weeks I've been told that the owner is "not in the office" and cannot process the refund. Overall, I feel the service and quality fell far short of what I paid for and I would not recommend this catering based on my experience. Yelp should remove them so that they don't ripped off anyone else

He was great to work with planning the event for 80 people that offered meat and veggie options and worked with the tight budget we had. He came on time, set up, cooked up all the food on the flat top, and even though there was a huge line of hungry students, they kept it moving quickly. Completely handled clean up as well. Both events he catered there was zero food left as people made sure to clear him out. He also offers sides like trays of rice, beans, and aguas. Cooking can be done onsite or as drop off. His mild green salsa and mango fuego salsa were both a hit. The mild ran out quickly because people loaded up! The mango fuego is good for people who like it HOT (it starts off sweet but packs some heat that will linger!) He even sells bottles of it. I've picked up a few, even the mini ones which I keep in my lunch bag, you never know when you might need some hot sauce ya feel me? I would recommend him for your next party/event or even just for his hot sauce. I use it on my tacos and my friends and family are always asking where I got it. He does pick ups for plates, just check his Instagram @tacosmibarrio to see when he's serving to go. Pick up in East Oakland. He can ship the hot sauce to your door.

Her cooking is so good, I kinda hope she brings some of her other specailties to the market. Mac & Cheese: A perfect rendition of that picnic or BBQ style of mac & cheese. Cooked earlier, cooled to coagulate a bit and then reheated to serve. The top has a very generous amount of melted cheese. The noodles are al dente and catch a bunch of creamier cheese sauce. Though more pasty in texture than saucy, since it's reheated. Full of nice spices too. I definitely tasted garlic powder, but I'm sure there's a bunch much more. Very comforting and very delicious, I scarfed this down quite fast and was blissfully full afterwards. There was a random sweet Hawaiian-style roll served with it, which made it even more seem like a picnic, albeit a very carby picnic. Lobster/Shrimp Mac & Cheese: Like the regular Mac & Cheese, but with a bunch of medium-sized shrimp in the mix. Perfect if you feel you need a bit more protein for your lunch. Though to be honest, I didn't see or taste any lobster. Which is fine since this only costs $5 more than the original and the shrimp already make it worth it.

The stand is on the right hand section (south) of the market just before that porchetta sandwich stand. I walked up on that 1st Tuesday out of curiosity and my eyes lit up when I saw those the magic word, "lobster". In reading the menu, I learned that the signature item is mac & cheese though garlic noodles were listed (not available on this day). I ordered the lobster/shrimp mac & cheese (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=YViVnzYSHreCuhxf5bh6-A&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). I was still shopping and had a few errands to finish before settling in my office to have this. When I finally settled in, I dug in. I generally enjoy a crusty cheesy mac & cheese and this version is certainly not that. I actually enjoyed the texture as it was, more of a pasta dish with clumps of cheese clinging to the macaroni noodles, tasty and not too rich. I found one full shrimp (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=39jqyzEKAT98HWqQZi0nGw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) and a scattered chunk or two in my bowl. The same applied to the lobster (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=MYxCCiHvSp3g_ruHb6kRzA&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) as I got one larger piece and scattered bits. For someone expecting either shrimp or the lobster to be the star, you might be disappointed. In searching for this business, I learned that it is a catering company by trade and this may be their 1st venture into the retail stand format. I will likely stop by again to see if they expand their menu with other items.

I was excited to finally try No Worries Filipino Vegan Cuisine recently at the Oakland VegFest. It…read morehas been on my radar to try them for awhile now yet took a while to pan out. From the looks of their calendar they travel around quite a bit including a lot of Oakland Athletics baseball games this month. So Oakland VegFest was unusually hot this year compared to last year when it was overcast & a lot cooler. I decided to get the sampler plate for $16. This came w/ Mungo, Adobo, Apritada, & Pansit. They were out of the Apritada which was a popular item so my server suggested I could double up on one of the other three items. Since I didn't know so much about the menu I asked the server for his recommendation. He said I would double up w/ the Mungo & that's what I went with. I went to find a shady spot & enjoyed my food. It was filling, tasty & nourishing. I loved that there was lots of veggies, legumes, & brown rice that seemed like a healthy meal that was flavorful to boot. The Mungo was mung beans boiled in broth then combined w/ sautéed kabocha squash, string beans, & deep fried tofu. The Adobo was soy chicken strips fried to a crisp, combined w/ soft eggplant then cooked in a marinade of soy sauce, vinegar, bay leaves, garlic, salt, & pepper. Pansit was traditional rice noodles cooked in a vegetable broth of soy chicken, cabbage, celery, and carrots, then seasoned with pepper, soy sauce and lemon juice. The Apritada that they sold out of is a stew-like combination of soy chicken, potatoes, red bell peppers, and green peas melted into a tomato based sauce. A friend I was with decided to have a snack of Lumpia spring rolls for $4 for the pair. These were seasoned soy ground beef mixed w/ shredded cabbage, peas, and carrots then rolled in a rice wrapper and deep fried to perfection. Sweet chili sauce was provided for dipping. Our other friend opted to go w/ a Mungo plate for $9. He wasn't keen on the tofu so asked if they could give him extra kabocha squash instead of the tofu. They did & was no worries. All in all No Worries Filipino Vegan Cuisine was quite alright. I look forward to trying them again & especially am curious to try the Apritada that sold out.

Even for breakfast, they have longanisa (sweet pork sausage), tocino (cured pork), and of course, spam....alongside a fried egg and garlic rice. I'm sitting here noshing on some Vanilla Almond Cereal and I'm already getting the meat sweats just thinking about Filipino food. From time-to-time I enjoy eating Filipino food but I end up feeling and looking like Ms. Bibendum (Michelin Man's wifey). Ok, I look that anyways but I think you know where I'm coming from. No worries because No Worries Filipino Vegan Cuisine got your back. This food truck offers all the authentic flavors of Filipino cuisine without the guilt or bloat (no msg). I'm no vegan but this truck got the seal of approval by Yelp Vegan Power Couple (John B. and Rachel C.) so I knew it was legit. We visited their truck yesterday at SoMa StrEat Food Park for Very Vegan Sundays. On the menu was adobo (soy vinegar based stew - $9), apritada (tomato based stew - $9), mungo (mung bean stew - $8), pancit (stir-fried vermicelli noodles - $8), and lumpia (fried egg rolls - $4). With the exception of the pancit and lumpia, orders come with a side of brown rice. Sampler Plate with 1 lumpia was $16. CC's accepted. Since we were sharing, I ordered the Sampler Plate ($16): http://bit.ly/1C8PhE9. My fav were the mungo and the lumpia. The mungo is a hearty stew similar to creamy lentil stew with kabocha squash, green beans, and fried tofu. Even better than the rendition I had growing up because I love kabocha. The lumpia was piping hot, crunchy, and meaty (soy ground beef). I would have never known it was vegan if I wasn't told so. Now that's a true testament of solid vegan food. The apritada and adobo (savory and vinegary) tasted like the real deal but personally, I'm not a fan of faux meat that it came with. I just can't get use to the spongy texture. Pancit was a bit bland and could of used more garlic and a sprinkling of scallions for some color. The brown rice was really dry. Filipino food can be intimidating especially since it's really underrepresented outside of Daly City. I think No Worries would be a good introduction for newbie Filipino food eaters...and even for carniwhores like Mr. NSS. The way he was eating the vegan lumpia, it was like he was lustfully devouring a longanisa. Wait that doesn't sound right...
