I loved this place! I wanted real Fish & Chips, and The Chippy has it. While exploring Portree's harbor you will find The Chippy on the steep road to/from the harbor. There are a couple of picnic tables, so very limited seating, and right next to the road. They only take cash, so be prepared for that. Very reasonable prices for the portion size you get! You could share an order. The fish was crispy and fresh, the chips were hot with salt & vinegar. The service was a bit cheeky, but friendly. It is a very busy place with lots of people ordering takeaway, so our wait was about 15 minutes for our food. A perfect lunch stop!

This place is cash only which was fine since we were traveling and had it on hand. We've had fish and chips several times this trip and this one was our least favorite. You wait in line and order. And they'll shout it out when your order is up. There were people everyone - sitting on the benches out front, waiting inside and out, so we decided that when we got our food - we would drive back to our AirBnb which was nearby. I ordered fish and chips with cheese. My boyfriend opted for the burger since he had his share of fish on this trip. We were asked if we wanted salt and malt vinegar when the order was up and they did what we wanted and wrapped it up to go. They had condiments like ketchup, tartar sauce, etc that were all for purchase. When we got back to our Airbnb which was 5 min away - my fish was a bit soggy already - didn't keep its crisp too long. The fish didn't taste fresh and wasn't flakey that I've had at previous chippy's. The chips with cheese were good and a huge portion. My boyfriends burger was over cooked and dry. It was probably a frozen patty. So, to say the least, we were disappointed. I know there's another fish and chips place right near here so could be best to try the other one.

    Delicious fish and chips.

Loved loved loved The Chippy! The customer service was fantastic and the food was just as amazing. The fish was lightly fried and flakey. The chips were equally as tasty. Be sure to try the fried sausage too as it did not disappoint. I learned a lot about the local area while visiting here as well. The staff was great at giving suggestions of things to do as well as proving a little historical insight into the area. Just really the nicest people and a great establishment. A true testament to Scottish hospitality.

Haddock and chips, with a takeaway cup of mushy peas in thebackground.

Cash only. There are a few picnic tables under a tent next to the shop, if you can grab one!

High-end restaurant as part of the hotel Cuillin Hill outside Portree on Isle of Skye. Delicious…read morefood, excellent presentation. Nice view even on a rainy day. Service not the best (for such a top establishment). Not attentive. Even worse, no apologies when there was plastic in the dish! That is a major fail to be honest. Waiter said he'd talk to kitchen and never came back. When the bill came we had to tell this different waiter about the whole episode. Again no apology but when she came back with a revised bill she quietly took the charge off (so that dish was free). Fine but why such bad handling of this whole incident?

Wow! This is as simply one of the best meals we have had in a very long time! The view, no pun…read moreintended is outstanding, and the service is just as wonderful, but the food! Emma was our server and was warm; delightful and very helpful with my gluten allergy; and Rebecca, the manager, was lovely, and helped us earlier in the day to arrange transport from Sconser. For the meal .... Well! We started with the crab, which was flavorful and very fresh. My husband saw the table next to us served the Curried Cauliflower soup, and had to try it. Super!! The entrees were exceptional; I had a lovely, thick piece of cod, with a beautiful butter and lemon sauce with grape tomatoes, and they subbed out a stacked potato dish, due to my gluten allergy, and it was delicious. My husband had the scallops with pork belly, and while both were fantastic, the pork belly was truly amazing. We also had a side of the seasonal vegetables, which were crisp and very fresh. If you are on Skye, don't miss The View!
