Amazing food! The Cullen Skink soup was hearty and perfectly seasoned- I could eat it everyday if I could!! Seriously the best meal we've had since arriving to the UK from the states 5 days ago! Will definitely be back if we have the chance to!

There is always a crowd and a wait to eat here. I've read they had freshest local seafood. Including Rick Steve's guidebook. Unfortunately, just because one has really fresh high quality seafood, it doesn't necessarily mean that one also knows how to cook it well too. £10.60 Dressed Crab...I'll admit I wasn't sure what to expect. If you fancy cold seafood, you might enjoy this, but I found it bland. £12.50 Steamed Hake...bland. Didn't seem like they added any sauce or seasonings. £5.95 Cullin Skink...good, but not great, and better than entrees. Seemed to be mostly tourists inside, if not all, eating here. The gals were polite, but seemed stressed and overworked. Interior has a fun sea theme decor, but was cramped and bit stuffy. Its not good, but not bad either, its just OK.

We started looking for a place for dinner as soon as we got off our tour bus. The first few spots were full until after 9pm, so we ended up at the Lower Deck, which seats first come first serve, no bookings. When we arrived there were only a few other couples in the place, but it filled up completely by the time we were done. I started with the Cullen Skink and J with the mussels. The skink was exactly what I'd been wanting to eat in the Highlands - think smoky clam chowder, only with fish instead of clams. So deliciously good, particularly with little bits of the fresh bread. I didn't even touch J's mussels because I didn't want to lose the flavor of the skink. Next, we split the whisky-glazed Scottish salmon with steamed vegetables. Neither the salmon nor the vegetables were anything impressive. I couldn't taste the whisky at all on the salmon (and I wasn't even drinking at the time, so it's not like I'd just had too much elsewhere), and the steamed vegetables had absolutely no flavor. For dessert, we shared the cranachan. It was essentially a sundae glass full of whipped cream with some raspberry syrup, 3 raspberries, and a sprinkling of oats on top. I expected more toppings and less cream, so maybe that's my fault for ordering. The staff was friendly, the food came quickly, the prices were decent, but the salmon and cranachan just fell short. I'd go back for the skink, but that's it.

Beef stew

Great location. Super friendly service. Our food came quickly. We lucked into a table right away but by the time we were half way through our meal there was a looong line outside waiting for a table. It's small place. I had the fish and chips and my husband had the beef stew. We also had a local porter which amazing! The food was great. Large portions and fairly priced. We totally recommend this place.

So cute snd quaint. My soup was delicious. Nice staff. No reservations taken. Wait in queue approx 15 minutes.

Service not the best (for such a top establishment). Not attentive. Even worse, no apologies when there was plastic in the dish! That is a major fail to be honest. Waiter said he'd talk to kitchen and never came back. When the bill came we had to tell this different waiter about the whole episode. Again no apology but when she came back with a revised bill she quietly took the charge off (so that dish was free). Fine but why such bad handling of this whole incident?

The entrees were exceptional; I had a lovely, thick piece of cod, with a beautiful butter and lemon sauce with grape tomatoes, and they subbed out a stacked potato dish, due to my gluten allergy, and it was delicious. My husband had the scallops with pork belly, and while both were fantastic, the pork belly was truly amazing. We also had a side of the seasonal vegetables, which were crisp and very fresh. If you are on Skye, don't miss The View!

The chef is a young man and I saw him coming out of the the busy kitchen a couple times to take a break. He shook my hand when he asked what Whisky I was drinking and I told him a Gelnfidditch 18. The two problems with the restaurant were they had the heat turned on very high, it was uncomfortably hot and I would honestly rather have been cold. The other problem was they were very short staffed so the meal started out great but our server was invisible toward the end and we sat around for 20 minutes trying to see him so we could leave. Haggis + Paneer Pakora: Great Haggis fusion dish, felt traditional and yet paid homage to some of the new cultures that make up the UK. Slow Braised Lamb Shank: Rosemary Infused Mashed Potato and Roasted Root Vegetable. Very tender and delicious, our whole family shared this even though it started off as just my wifes dinner. Sole Veronique: Potatoes, spinach, and a cream sauce. Tasted OK but I thought the sauce was too heavy for the light fish it was on. If you go across the street from the restaurant and look down you can see the iconic row of different colored houses that a lot of people were taking pictures of.

Six items were on the menu: a soup of the day (rice and chicken) with bread, a ham and cheese sandwich, a chicken/bacon/sweetcorn sandwich (check the TripAdviser reviews if you want to hear more about that one), a vegan cheese and pickle sandwich, a pulled pork wrap, and a falafel/mango chutney wrap. Five pages of the six-page menu were drinks, coffee, and alcohol. This is not a food place. It looks like one. Based on old reviews and photos, maybe it used to be one. I did come in the afternoon, so maybe it's better for breakfast. Or maybe not. For the amount and quality of sandwich I got for 5 quid, I should have just gotten a meal deal at the co-op. Genuinely, a meal deal sandwich would have been better quality. My ham and cheese did have both ingredients, but the cheese was shredded and the ham was very thin-sliced and overwhelmed by the cheese. My guess is that it's made to be toasted, hence the shredded cheese, and that was an option for 20 pence-- but why on God's green Earth would you serve a cold sandwich with shredded cheese? The bread was bland and basic-- fine if you're making yourself something at home, but not something worth paying for at all. (Again, it was like a meal deal sandwich. But worse. I would never disrespect a meal deal sandwich like this.) Based on the service (or lack thereof) we received from the very beginning, I should have listened to my intuition and gotten up to find somewhere better. The wait staff are called that, I assume, because they will wait ten minutes for you to ask them if they can take your order, only to be repeatedly rude to you when you politely ask for the bare minimum amount of service. Full disclosure: I have worked in food service before. I sympathize with anyone who has to deal with customers. But when we weren't served, and went up to ask if our order could be taken, we were snapped at and told to go back to our table. No "apologies, someone will be there shortly". Not even a "sorry for the wait, we're very busy right now". Just "go back to your table". So we did. Which was a huge mistake. I've lived in Scotland for more than a year and I don't know if I've ever had a meal that depressing since living here. And I've made Pasta in Sauce at 3am with just water because I ran out of milk. I won't be too hard on our table's waiter because he was very young and inexperienced, and I expect he's received minimal, if any, training on how to wait tables. I honestly felt bad for him. He looked as though he would rather be anywhere else. In that way I felt a real connection to the wait staff; in fact, it was the only time I actually felt truly seen by them. I, too, would rather have been anywhere else. But that's not necessarily the vibe you want to be getting when you walk into a place. This place would be better off selling ready-made, takeaway sandwiches rather than masquerading as a restaurant and disappointing us at every turn. Seriously. Not to quote other media in a literal Yelp review, but my expectations were low and I was still let down. The only saving grace of this place was that it was clean and had wifi that was strong enough for me to send this picture of my sandwich to my friends and go "????????". Also there were two very cute dogs outside, although I don't believe they were hired by the restaurant. If you're desperate for food and don't really mind what you're spending money on, then this place is fine. Like I said, at least it's clean and has decent wifi. But I would not waste my time here twice.

The two of us were seated on a first come first served policy at a 6-top table (the only table…read moreavailable) with the understanding that they might need to seat another couple at the far end. Fine. No problem. We settled in and ordered. Then a girl that seemed to have an inflated sense of self importance came over and insisted that we pack up and move to a newly opened 2-top. I found it very unsettling. If a party of 6 were to come looking for a table they surely would have understood, due to their party size, that they would need to wait 10-15 minutes. Sure enough, 2 different 6-tops opened within 10 minutes after we moved to our new seat. There was no need to treat us so rudely.
