    Great local beer on cask
    GT W.

We came here for dinner with reservations made through Rabbie's Tours. Space is limited, so during high tourist season, this will fill up for dinner service. This venue had everything: amazing food, live music, local beer on cask, and friendly service. I ordered the seafood sampler (£22) after being told the restaurant did all of their own smoked seafood. The difference in quality was astounding. The Scottish style smoked salmon (not the cured Norweigan type) was the best smoked salmon I've ever had. If you look at the photo, it's the two slivers of salmon on the left that look like your regular baked salmon. The texture was oily and flaked apart. The combination between sweet, salty, fatty, and savory was mind-blowing. On top of that, they had a phenomenal, hyper-local ale on cask, Plockton Brewery Yarrowale. This was honestly one of the best beers I've had in the UK. Others in our party were very happy with their food. One ordered the salmon entree with feta, olives, and sun-dried tomators and spinach salad. This was easily the best food I had in the Scottish Highlands.

Such a fabulous meal! Everything we had was absolutely superb! The prawns were massive and the oysters were buttery and delicious. Everything we had was outstanding. Highly, highly recommend

Nice hotel and pub located in the center of town by Plockton Bay. The pub offers a variety of food and daily special menu items, including a wide range of fresh seafood. I ordered a cheeseburger with chips and my wife ordered a seafood platter. Both meals were very delicious with generous portions. The pub has table service which was friendly and attentive. The prices are very reasonable for both alcoholic beverages and food. Free WiFi and restrooms are available for guests.

View from outside the pub. Amazing

This was my only fish and chips on our trip and it was excellent. Massive, I ate maybe 2/3 of it? For dessert I did have a couple of bites of a super delicious and rich chocolate mousse dessert. Beautiful views. Excellent service. Definitely worth your time if you find yourself in the area.

The interior is very upscale - easily the fanciest place in the very tiny village of Plockton. The menu looked inspired and seafood oriented. Because I hadn't tried any Scottish sourced beef yet on the trip, I made the mistake of ordering the aged Scottish ribeye and then added on the cracked pepper sauce with whiskey. This was £20 plus £3 for the sauce! The ribeye was cut too thin, to begin with, so wasn't cooked properly by default. The cracked pepper sauce had no whiskey flavor at all. And the overall portion was too small given the price. Another in our group ordered the same thing with the same sauce added. He commented similarly that the portion was small and that the flavor on the beef and sauce was lacking. No whiskey flavor was detected either. Others enjoyed their food. But I should have just stuck with the seafood sampler like everyone else.

We've ordered the fried fish wrap, the seafood bowl and some fresh oysters. We actually wanted also some langoustines like last time. But since the menu is always a bit changing and depending on the catch, this time this option wasn't available. But there were some of them in the mixed seafood bowl. Also some herring, salmon, seafood dip and salad was in the delicous bowl. The fried fish wrap was excellent as well. Fresh cod, nicely fried. Crispy outside and nice, fresh and tender inside. Good stuff. And now for the highlight: The Oysters. We've had oysters in the Normandy (France), Spain, Italy, Portugal, South Korea, Japan, Australia, the US and in many other places. In several spots in England and Scotland as well. And these here were so far the best we've ever had! Fresh flavours of the sea, nicely sized, very sweet, smooth and creamy. Excellent oysters - almost drove three hours back the next day just to get some more. -But an altogether six-hour drive was a bit too much in the end. Hopefully next time around the oysters will be as great as this time. This time the weather was pretty cold and it was a bit rainy at times. So it was easy to get a table - even got one under the tent. Last time it was warm and sunny, but hard to get a seat and there was a long line. This time it was all easy, an advantage of this kind of weather which we didn't mind at all. A really really great place to grab some fantastic seafood items. We definitely will be back.

I ordered the filet of wild halibut with peashoot and watercress risotto and it was delicious. I was quite surprised and a little disappointed by the serving size compared to the price. My husband opted for the lemon and thyme chicken. Again, the serving size left a lot to be desired. After the exchange rate, dinner was $112. I don't think I would come here again as the price isn't justified by the portion size or the ambiance. Also, the waitstaff were just standing around watching everyone eat which was strange.

After making reservations over a month ago, we were very excited to dine in at the Loch Leven…read moreSeafood Cafe. Location is great with views of the Loch and surrounding mountains. Our initial young waitress was very attentive and graceful throughout our dinner. Unfortunately the restaurant was out of the main courses we desired, so we both opted for medium-rare Ribeye steaks. My partner received a proper medium rare steak, while I received a steak that was medium well to well done throughout most of the steak. A small portion of the steak was medium. Ultimately the steak was unevenly and over-cooked. Confusing, since the other steak we ordered at the same time was perfectly cooked. I dreadfully had to send a steak back to the kitchen for the first time in as long as I can remember. Our young waitress was very understanding and seemed to agree when I showed her the difference between the two steaks, and said no problem we will re-cook it for you. A little while later, an older waitress came back to the table with my original steak, who expressed that the owner/chef was currently present in the kitchen, reviewed (and perhaps cooked the steak?) and disagreed that the steak was perfectly medium-rare. I was obviously shocked at this point given we had an actual medium rare steak on our table to compare it to, and the difference was obvious for anyone with normal vision and proper cooking experience. She cut into the thickest part of the steak to show me, and what was shown was medium at best, and ignored all of the overcooked rest of the steak I had cut into previously without taking a single bite. This is where things turn truly awry, disappointing, and unprofessional. The older waitress suggested I must not understand what medium rare is in the UK, since I am American. Very condescending. I had previously also received a bit of an attitude from her when asking if they had a wine pairing for the steak (they didn't), which is common when you have a £30+ ribeye on the menu. I immediately corrected her saying that I do understand proper doneness of meat (both of us have restaurant experience and are avid cooks) and it's actually a universal standard, and this was the most overcooked steak I received in the past month I had been fine dining across Scotland. I was given the option to order something else since the chef was not up to preparing a new steak, but I politely declined to order anything additional after feeling so disrespected and seriously questioning the capability of the chef at this point. I chose to split the proper medium rare steak we did receive, and finished off our evening. The steak we did eat was just average for the price. Fortunately the co-op down the street was still open and we were able to prepare an equally adequate meal at home. The fact that the owner/chef at no point came out to discuss the issue was very disappointing and lack of accountability was a bit baffling. In the end, I was rightfully not charged for the steak on the final bill, but this was easily our worst dining experience across a month of dining all over Scotland, both Michelin-starred and more low-key restaurants. I've had nothing but extremely kind service in the whole of Scotland except this establishment, and it appears this sentiment is expressed in other recent reviews. I would suggest to skip this one and consider other great options in the area with more capable cooking staff.
