We decided to enjoy a Friday afternoon treat at The Chief Creamery in Granger. We have been here before but it's been a while, so there was some news items I didn't remember from my prior trip. We were greeted nicely as we came in, and we're happy to see it was not overly busy as we know it can be! We had someone who needed No sugar added ice cream and she was happy to know there was 2-3 options available. She chose moose tracks and loved it! She said it was of course not as good as the "real deal" in her words but delicious and creamy in its own right. My 13 year old had her go-to chocolate, which was gigantic! I had a little taste and it was creamy and sweet! I chose the espresso/coffee house flavor of the day: it was magic! Chocolate pieces and rich espresso flavor was amazing! They gentlemen working the counter were very friendly and polite and the facility felt very clean and welcoming with big wood tables for large groups. I liked that they had a coffee house/sandwich shop added which I did not remember from before. I will have to return and try a grilled cheese panini sometime . Long ago when I was in college, I went to The Chief. I got what I usually get--mint chocolate chip. Fast forward to this summer and I went there with my family--I got my usual. My wife got the Peanut Butter Oreo. Did I make a huge mistake? Yes. Yes, I did. The mint chocolate chip is delicious and all, but they nailed it with the PB Oreo. I had a borderline existential crisis right there. What had I done with my life? How many times have I overlooked the PB Oreo? Who is Kafkaesque? I don't know him. In case you're not picking up what I'm putting down--the PB Oreo is the way to go. Now that I live in Kansas, this place is all the more special to me. Do not miss out on this place!! Genuinely one of my top ice cream shop choices in the entire country. Every time they cater for ND, I try and get a cup. The workers are extremely friendly and they give good portions. I don't think you could go wrong with any flavor, but I'm partial to Peanut Butter Oreo. read more

My husband loves ice cream, and this is his favorite local spot. They have some hot food and a drive thru (and recently added a coffee bar that I haven't had a chance to try yet, but would really like to check out). Their ice cream is really good, and the have a rotating selection of non-dairy options (which makes me so happy). I'm lactose-intolerant and don't like sorbet or Italian ice, so I love the non-dairy options. They have a variety of sizes and portions are generous. The decor is adorable, and the staff is always friendly (and happy to give samples). Definitely a great spot for ice cream (no matter the weather). read more

The Chief has so many unique flavors and you get a lot of ice cream for the price. I tried the peanut butter Oreo - if you love peanut butter definitely try it, amazing peanut butter flavor. I also had salted caramel cashew which was nice though I could've gone for a bit saltier, but I generally like things a bit saltier than others so that could just be personal preference. I got my kid a brownie hot fudge sundae. It was great. The vanilla ice cream had a very strong vanilla flavor, the brownie was chewy and dense and it was covered in whipped cream and hot fudge. We skipped the pecans since I'm allergic. This location has dine in and drive through options. And we were shopping in Mishawaka on Grape road and this was so much closer than I realized. Top notch cold brew coffee! IMHO better than Starbucks Just tried breakfast sandwich it was very good. The biscuit which are often dry and stale at some fast food places, was soft and fresh great sandwich! Staff are all very clean cut and nice. Great place with an inviting ambiance. read more

Well thanks for one of the worst ice cream experiences I've ever had. Can you please explain to me why none of your employees wearing acrylic nails are wearing gloves as they dig into scooping out ice cream? And also not masked? So I order a Chicago-ish dog and a mini peanut brittle sundae. One girl goes to put in the hot dog order, the other goes to make the sundae. Then the other starts making one too. One makes the correct size and the other makes a large. I look and go wait that's the mini? And she goes no, you wanted a mini? And the other girl walks over with the correct order. The one who made it incorrectly sneers, walks off with the messed up order, and then starts complaining to the cashier about me. In front of me. Where I can hear. My sister happened to be behind me in line and ordered ice cream as well. Well we get outside and my sister looks down and there's a hair in her ice cream. So thanks for the worst ice cream experience we've ever had in a while. read more

Popped in to the new location for desert after lunch. Nice atmosphere & sitting area. Glad to see they had the Chiefs standard flavors along with the specials. Prices were fair and portion size good. I got two scoops in a cup & my husband a shake. My husband and I love coming here with our 17 month old son-- the ice cream is some of the best I have EVER had. The menu items as far as actual food goes is limited, and the quality isn't great; but it's nice to have the option. They serve hotdogs, chips, soft drinks, traveling tacos and things of the like. It's always fun to see the flavors of the week-- the piña colada, bubble gum, and banana pudding are my all time favorite flavors of the week. I LOVE the lemon they offer on their permanent menu. There's nothing special about the Granger, IN location(I can't speak for the original location). On the website they boast how they we voted one of the best ice cream places in the nation, I'm not sure how they ever got that title.
