They just had a big renovation in the community areas of the memory care sections and it looks freshened up. (Except for the old furniture). Most of the caregivers are good - they have a lot of work to do for a lot of people and not very much staffing. They seem to really care about the old folks who live there. I am updating my review from last winter to reflect current conditions at Aegis. The staff has had a major change with a new nursing director. A Marquita Kennedy has come aboard, and none are too happy about it. She has not been there terribly long, and already residents and us family are grumbling and good staff members are fixing to leave because of her. One bad egg may spoil a good thing here, and quick, too. The activities have slacked off some, less and less it seems. My Mother has been more sedentary with less to do. The food is still the same, not too good. The place is kept up fairly well. The staff turnover seems about the same as anywhere else, but is about to go through the roof with Ms. Kennedy at the reigns.

Mary explained everything to us thoroughly - we gained so much knowledge about Carlton and this facility. What impresses is the most is that you can tell that Mary, along with other employees here, are genuinely nice and truly enjoy and take pride in their job. We did a tour of the facility - which is beautiful and immaculately maintained - it is exactly as advertised... warm, home feel, clean but not sterile. We saw some folks walking around, some with canes, some with walkers, others with wheelchairs, and some who are getting ready to go on a tricycle bike ride! We toured around the faculty including its TV and activity room, the outdoor dining and hanging area, the restaurant, library. What impressed us the most - in addition to their staff - is their restaurant. It is a nice restaurant and has a seasonal menu, and plenty of drink choice. It is truly a cruise ship on land! Every elderly person should be fortunate enough to live in a nice facility such as Carlton's when we get older!

However, what we know for sure is that from the moment our loved one stepped into that community until her last breath, her caregivers were present and responsive and loving. They wept with us as we said our goodbyes and demonstrated professional integrity and the power of human connection for days, months, years and then...some very slow arduous hours. Thank you.

Carlton's solutions to my father's limited mobility and need for some assistance in eating was to overmedicate him so that he was unable to eat. He lost 27 pounds in 2 months which landed him in the hospital. Carlton could not explain how this happened or how they "missed" the weight loss. He never recovered and died a week later. Carlton made many promises to our family, none of which were kept. Carlton is incapable of providing adequate memory care to its residents.

She likes the routine, eating with others and there is often someone popping into her room to check on her or invite her to meals. The staff are super friendly and get to know each resident by name. They have fun activities and something for everyone. It feels like a family with genuine care. I'm grateful mom has so much more social interaction than living alone in her too quiet house. They also recently updated the decor in the dining and activities rooms and they are beautiful and modern.

It was very comforting, to know I had this team of professional individuals helping me move forward in healing. The nurses and the CNA's were outstanding, meeting my every need as per my Doctors orders and requests. Physical therapy, added encouragement to help improve. My physical condition was a challenge. I was incapable of taking care of myself during my healing process, and always felt that the staff was eager to encourage and cheer me to do better. The service for all meals impressed me, with their timely efforts to serve appealing meals. helping in any way they could were on time. I witnessed the staff encourage patients to reach goals, such as standing, walking, and even taking the time to read, bath and in one case help feed my roommate. There were many patients at the hospital that were in critical condition getting constant attention to their needs. The condition of the facilities was very welcoming,, clean and orderly. Office personnel, Maggie and Monet, were beyond considerate, kind and helpful. I would not hesitate to recommend this facility.

This facility is extremely disorganized, and I am deeply concerned about the level of care my…read moremother was receiving. She was admitted for rehabilitation following a stroke and has specific medical instructions that are not being properly followed. She is supposed to have thickened liquids without the use of straws to prevent aspiration; however, even after having a meeting with their section managers about my mom's needs, the staff were still giving her straws. Additionally, she requires assistance with eating, yet staff routinely drop off her meal tray and leave without ensuring she is able to eat or drink. When I visited, I can see her tray of food is untouched on the table that is not even in reach of my mom. She is not supposed to get up without assistance. There appears to be little to no concern for whether she is receiving adequate nutrition or hydration. During day 3 of my mom's stay (same day as issue above), I found my mother shivering uncontrollably and unable to speak. After I alerted staff, they checked her temperature and found it to be 104°F. She was given Tylenol and an IV - the nurse did what she could. A couple of hours later, I requested that her temperature be checked again. The assistant used a no-touch thermometer but quickly moved it around her face and neck, then stated her temperature was 97°F. This seemed highly unlikely given how recently she had a high fever. After the assistant left, I checked my mother myself and found that she still felt extremely hot. I asked the assistant to return and recheck her temperature. It appeared he was not allowing the thermometer enough time to register properly, as he was moving it too quickly. When I asked him to hold it in one place where she felt hottest, he then reported a temperature of 100°F (I did not see the exact number, but the device indicated a red light - a fever). Overall, the staff demonstrate a lack of proper training, coordination, and communication. There are cork boards in patient rooms that could be used to clearly display care instructions, yet they are not being utilized (photo attached). This would be a simple but effective way to ensure consistency in patient care. Her inability to eat and drink independently, along with her shivering and high fever, went unnoticed by staff until we brought it to their attention. At the end of this experience, we requested that staff call an ambulance to transport my mother to the hospital, as we no longer felt she was safe in this facility. I will not be bringing her back. At the hospital, it was discovered that her urine was amber in color and she was diagnosed with a UTI. As for the facility itself, the environment is outdated and poorly maintained. The air circulation is inadequate, and the overall atmosphere feels depressing. Improvements in both the physical environment and staff performance are urgently needed.

Choosing a memory care home is never easy, and after visiting several places, I felt that Concord…read moreRoyale was the right choice. I was looking for something smaller, more personal, and as close to a home-like environment as possible. What stood out to me right away was the ratio of caregivers to residents; 3 caregivers for about 12 residents, which creates a level of attention and care that is hard to find. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming. Connie, the executive director, is attentive, kind, and truly cares. We immediately felt comfortable there. I visited frequently, about five times a week, at different times of day, and consistently experienced the same level of care. The staff was attentive, supportive, and genuinely present. I always felt at ease knowing he was in good hands. The food was also very good, which mattered a lot, as he really enjoyed his meals. I would especially like to recognize Miguel from the memory care unit. His care and presence are truly exceptional. He has a natural gift for what he does: compassionate, professional, and deeply attentive. He truly stands out because he genuinely cares, and you can feel that in the way he shows up every day. I always felt I could rely on him completely, and his support made a meaningful difference. I'm truly grateful for the care and environment provided here.

The reasons she gave were "she doesn't want to get out of bed" or "she's lazy and doesn't listen to what we tell her to do". These statements were alarming to hear regarding an 81 year old elderly woman with dementia who had known the Concord Royale a her home for a long time. These negative remarks from Director Connie also had us worried for how our loved one was being spoken to and treated. Connie also expressed anger and said many negative criticizing things because our loved one became incontinent. We found all of this strange as all of the above are typical things which happen to a person who is elderly and has beginning stages of dementia. In our conversations with Connie, she suddenly did a very odd "about face" and said if we paid $350 a month extra money, our loved one could stay at the Concord Royale. At this point, as sad as it was to have her move while she had many friends for years who she would likely miss, we thought it best to move her elsewhere. Please keep a good eye on your loved one if they are living in this place (hopefully they won't do anything typical of an elderly person that will upset Connie).
