Choosing a memory care home is never easy, and after visiting several places, I felt that Concord Royale was the right choice. I was looking for something smaller, more personal, and as close to a home-like environment as possible. What stood out to me right away was the ratio of caregivers to residents; 3 caregivers for about 12 residents, which creates a level of attention and care that is hard to find. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming. Connie, the executive director, is attentive, kind, and truly cares. We immediately felt comfortable there. I visited frequently, about five times a week, at different times of day, and consistently experienced the same level of care. The staff was attentive, supportive, and genuinely present. I always felt at ease knowing he was in good hands. The food was also very good, which mattered a lot, as he really enjoyed his meals. I would especially like to recognize Miguel from the memory care unit. His care and presence are truly exceptional. He has a natural gift for what he does: compassionate, professional, and deeply attentive. He truly stands out because he genuinely cares, and you can feel that in the way he shows up every day. I always felt I could rely on him completely, and his support made a meaningful difference. I'm truly grateful for the care and environment provided here. read more

We had an awful experience with this place, after our loved one lived her for many years, Connie decided she wanted her to move out. The reasons she gave were "she doesn't want to get out of bed" or "she's lazy and doesn't listen to what we tell her to do". These statements were alarming to hear regarding an 81 year old elderly woman with dementia who had known the Concord Royale a her home for a long time. These negative remarks from Director Connie also had us worried for how our loved one was being spoken to and treated. Connie also expressed anger and said many negative criticizing things because our loved one became incontinent. We found all of this strange as all of the above are typical things which happen to a person who is elderly and has beginning stages of dementia. In our conversations with Connie, she suddenly did a very odd "about face" and said if we paid $350 a month extra money, our loved one could stay at the Concord Royale. At this point, as sad as it was to have her move while she had many friends for years who she would likely miss, we thought it best to move her elsewhere. Please keep a good eye on your loved one if they are living in this place (hopefully they won't do anything typical of an elderly person that will upset Connie). read more

Not sure why Connie emailed Grace to tell her to look at my review and Grace text me telling me while you were on the phone with her. I actually left a good review for your place and was just saying what we have been dealing with. You told her i shouldn't have put what she has etc but this is not some hippa violation this is saying what we went through as a family with her. So I'm not sure what you were trying to do with emailing So far this place seems nice and the staff there seem nice too! My ex partners mother moved into the memory care unit here and was told they got her to shower! Which is amazing because she would get physical and argue with her daughter and I to not shower. She has a room by herself right now and they have her get up in the AM to sit in the living room with is great so she's around everyone and not isolated in the room. She never wanted to do anything we would try to get her to come out but she just wanted to sleep all day. So far she's played bingo, they got her to shower and change her clothes. She would get mad at us for having her change but I'm glad they got her to. She would pretend with us when she didn't want to do anything that she can't walk or she's weak but she's really strong she's climbed over a metal baby gate, pounded on windows and has left the house, police involved so it became harder for everyone to take care of her because she was always trying to leave the house and she has dementia. Here they said she was full of energy and danckg to music which is great because we could not get her to do anything! Right now she does not have a roommate, kinda afraid when she does get one how she will treat them but the staff there I'm sure is well trained to handle that. She speaks English but pretends to only speak Tagalog and they have Filipino caregivers there which is good because they speak Tagalog! She's made comments that she will run away but it's locked with a code so she's safe and can not leave. So far this place seems great. When she went to visit the brother in Texas he said the first week she did great and showered, ate etc with no issues and then it went downhill after that. Hopefully she continues to thrive here and I think the routine and activities are helping keep her busy. Her son Glen brought up some alarming stuff to Grace he said he found out from a while back but I'm sure they have fixed whatever issues and the staff seem caring and attentive. When we moved her in the staff were friendly and caring. Much better than the place in Castro valley that Eden hospital sent my mom to for rehabilitation. ( they almost killed my mom) To the staff here just becareful because she has been violent and is smarter than what she makes herself seem and we've seen here watching when they put the code in the door! She's mentioned she's going to run away too. It's a good thing Gloria is there because Grace looses patience fast with her mother and the people there are better trained to handle her Just be careful too because she will say she's being abused and scream for help. She did that and thankfully neighbors saw but staff should be aware I couldn't say anything when Connie came because her daughter told me they will deal with it if it happens there but that's something you guys should know too! read more

I only just found out about Concord Royale when my relative had to stay there. It was the best choice I ever made. Connie, Bo (nurse), Leo, and all the people in the front office are kind and compassionate, and the place is very well kept up. I highly recommend it. The food is good, the laundry is done, and the rooms are always clean. The staff is also very attentive to the needs of the clients. My 96 year old mother has stayed here twice for short-term Respite Stays. And one thing that's good about them is that they have 2 dedicated Respite rooms. These rooms are spacious, well-furnished, and have a patio for sitting outdoors. The facility is modern and clean and fully staffed. And the staff really care about helping. One time my mother fell and hurt her finger, and they made a homemade splint that really worked. But the highest praise goes to Connie, the manager, who found time in her busy schedule to visit my mom, check in on her, cheer her up, and take care of every concern. Thank you very much. I went back and forth between four and five stars, and decided that five stars was right for one important reason - the people. Both management and staff here are great - kind, friendly and caring. More details: My elderly mother was here, and just passed away at the age of 97. She had also been here once before, a number of years ago (long and complicated story), so I have some familiarity with Concord Royale. Here is why I was thinking of giving it less than five stars. It is located on Clayton Road, a busy four lane road, with apartment complexes on either side, not on some tree-shaded lane or on a hill with a view. (But I never heard any significant road noise.) The building and grounds are nondescript - just halls with rooms off them, no fancy atrium or gardens with walking paths. (But the hallways and gathering areas are very decorated, not sterile or institutional feeling.) I didn't eat much of the food, but from what I saw and my mother's description, it seemed largely uninspiring (but not bad), and there was no fancy "bistro" for eating outside of the designated meal hours. But the bottom line for the residents in assisted living (as opposed to visiting family members) is how good is the care you are getting, and that is why I am giving them five stars. Connie the director was always kind and caring and attentive, and did her best to accommodate my mother, who could be very picky and demanding. The majority of the staff I encountered were also very friendly and helpful, and worked hard to do a good job taking care of my mother, and I got the sense that they really cared about her. The facilities are clean and there is no smell. So bottom line is that yes, it is an assisted living facility, and it may not be the most luxurious (or expensive) one out there, but where it really matters - the people and the quality of care - it is exemplary, and I appreciate the kindness and care they gave my mother at the end of her life. read more

My dad was happy and well cared for during the 18 months he lived at Concord Royale. The staff quickly bonded with my dad, and he got involved in various activities they offered. They kept him well nourished, clean and healthy, provided transportation to appointments, and watched over him every day. My dad made friends and enjoyed the social scene. As my dad needed more care, the staff stepped in graciously. Prices were fair and reasonable for services rendered. It all comes down to a comfort level and affordability about the facility. Many of the employees have been there many years as well as Connie the Director and I believe a very low turnover rate, which is a good sign. It has a very homey feel rather than austere and cold. I placed my friend there a few years ago and feel it's a good fit. They really give her great care. They seemed to have survived the most challenging time period during covid 19 as well! My mother-in-law lived at Concord Royale for 5 years and our family deeply appreciates the loving care that she received. We always felt that she was safe and happy. This is a family-owned facility and it shows in the way residents are treated. My husband, his siblings and my mother in law's grandchildren would drop in as often as possible and we always found my mother-in-law up and about and engaged in an activity or talking with other residents. When she would forget to go to breakfast or lunch - the staff would pleasantly get her to go to the dining room. As her dementia increased, the staff kept us informed and made helpful suggestions. We would choose Concord Royale again - which says everything about how much we appreciate the care our beloved mother and grandmother received! read more

I love this place. My grandfather ended up here at 89 years old after a heart attack and a fall. The transition was very difficult for him and the staff has been amazing through it all. He's been living here for two years now and has made a lot of friends. He loves the food and often refuses to eat anywhere else. The Concord Royale has a variety of activities for their residents to participate in ranging from exercise programs to poker tournaments and a weekly wine gathering. The scouts come in to socialize regularly and there is often musical entertainment or special events. The staff knows not only the residents by name and their habits but the families as well. I am always greeted with a smile and conversation upon my arrival and the staff always tells me where my grandfather is. read more

My mother resided at Concord Royale for over 2 years, before she recently passed away. She lived in a comfortable private apartment -- roomy, light, airy, nice. Overall, Concord Royale is not fancy, but it is clean and very good. What really made it great for my mother was the excellent care provided by the staff. From top to bottom, these people are dedicated to caring for the residents well. I was a frequent visitor and was always struck by the consistently high level of care. My parents. both over 90, live at Concord Royale and have for three years. Since I live less than a mile away from this facility, I'm able to check in my parents frequently. In that time, I've observed that the management and care staff have been excellent to work with and very caring for my mom & dad. Concord Royale is one of several assisted facilities owned by the Berg family in the Bay Area. When I initially toured the facility in 2011, they told me about the local, family ownership, and that it makes a difference. It has certainly turned out to be a substantial claim. While the corporately owned facilities we toured were fancier with larger common areas and fancier amenities, they were much more expensive. After visiting these places several times, we realized people of advanced age don't use the pool, community jacuzzi, movie theater or game room anyway. Concord Royale is just as clean as any corporate centers, but they put more emphasis on regular entertainment and events and services like bus rides to the store or the doctor. The staff knows each of the 100+ residents by name, and is quick to recognize and communicate any changes in health or problems. We're glad we found them. read more

Let me add my voice to others who've found the care at this place to be exceptional. My brother, who died in January, 2018, spent the last year and a half there, severely disabled with COPD as well as ongoing but well-managed mental health issues. The staff there was unfailingly professional on a day-to-day basis as well as during several emergencies that required his hospitalization. When the time came for hospice, they coordinated well with the Vitas hospice team. Everyone I met on the staff there seemed to know my brother (and his dog!) quite well and showed endlesss patience and genuine affection for him. They consistently went beyond the call of duty, even to walking the dog when he was no longer able to. Concord Royale delivers excellent, personal, care and seems to have a lower staff turnover than the corporate assisted living establishments I've observed, plus a gift for hiring people with a real vocation for this work. read more

My mother lived at the Concord Royale until she passed yesterday. I cannot say enough about the people at this place. My mother was a younger resident in her late 60's with a lot of health issues. COPD eventually ended her life. Every room is large and sunny with many on the bottom floor opening up to a patio. The ceilings are high and my mom had a small walk in closet and a little fridge and microwave. The people who work here are exceptional. They not only cared for my mom as her health declined but stepped up to help when her terrible Kaiser Hospice group failed her many many times. Concord Royale quickly took over managing her meds when upon being dropped off by Hospice she consumed most of them, Concord Royale to the rescue. They brought her meals and always made sure she had her very favorite items. When she declined rapidly in this past week and hospice was telling us we needed 24 hour care for her (she was trying to climb out of the bed even though she was slightly unconscious) Concord Royale staff Diane and Connie jumped in and got Beacon Home Care to start round the clock care for her. We did not have to do any of the work, they managed it for us and Beacon was amazing. The staff at the Concord Royale is friendly and takes the time to talk to the residents about their families. I specifically remember the cleaning crew came in to pray over my mom, wonderful people. They even have a garden and an outdoor patio, lots of activities and the place is bright and sunny. read more
