I became a huge fan of Americano the first time tried in Rome many years ago. As a coffee drinker I simply thought an Americano was a watered-down espresso. I learned there is a little more to it. The Americano is my favorite coffee, although I usually drink a brewed black coffee. GC's Americano is very good and will probably be my go-to order there. Service was good and the young man behind the counter was quick to offer an Americano when I learned their regular black was being brewed. Anyway, I found a good spot for a coffee break (between shopping) whenever I am down at Stanford. And...the pics.

I did find it peculiar that they started putting up the tables and chairs around me ~2 hours before they closed. I felt a bit awkward about staying but then I was confused as to why they had started cleaning up so early.

The NOLA cold brew was sweet and refreshing - the light cinnamon and honey added just the right amount of sweetness to the smooth cold brew. Perhaps, many university students go here for that. I saw many people use their laptops and devices. Back to the interior, it looks really modern and a perfect fit for a coffee place. Tastes like usual, but their prices are quite expensive since that drink was $6.30, which can be twice as expensive as the ones from low-end cafes. However, it's worth the stay and experience. I haven't tried the basque cheesecakes and the puddings, but have been a repeat customer for their roll cakes. So far I've tried their matcha, coffee, and black sesame roll cakes and all are fantastic. Super strong flavors and the chiffon cake isn't too dry. I will say for a single slice the price is quite steep, but it /is/ located in Palo Alto so rent is not cheap I would assume. The Anton location in the mall is only takeaway, so you just order at the counter and go. They do provide a very pretty and well-constructed cardboard tray with a napkin/utensil holder built in if you tell them you're eating at one of the patio tables. Very thoughtful! We had a slice of their best seller, the Hokkaido milk charcoal crepe, which cost $12/slice. Simply put, the crepe was just too dry and overcooked. I personally look for crepe texture to be a little QQ (soft, but with some bite) and this was borderline rubbery. The skin also wasn't smooth: you could even see all the bubbles that formed. Cream was okay, nothing special or particularly "Hokkaido" about it; I've had dairy in Hokkaido and this didn't have any of the richness I remember. The little crunchy chocolate-covered wafer balls were a net negative to the experience. The sweetness of the chocolate was way too overpowering for how delicate the cream was, and I did not like the crunchy texture in the context of a crepe cake at all.
