My previous experience with physical therapy was isolated treatments of specific body parts or muscle groups, with programs that did not produce lasting results. I was weary of another regimen of 8-10 weeks of resistance band exercises, which I could easily perform at home with no direction. About 6 months ago, Pro+Kinetix caught my attention on social media, and I decided to explore their programs. Their offerings aligned with my goals, and the combination of physical therapy and strength training piqued my interest. Working with Matteo, I've acquired the knowledge and skills to safely train with weights. We've developed a few comprehensive whole-body routines and iteratively refined exercises when necessary to accommodate lingering injuries and facilitate progress. I've greatly appreciated the flexibility to customize and refine my fitness objectives over time, while also creating personalized routines tailored to my body. Highly recommend!

I had tried online mobility programs, but I needed personalized guidance to make real progress. I was matched with Roland Jenkins in 2024 and have been seeing and feeling progress ever since (hello criss-cross applesauce sits!). He helped me improve my mobility, build confidence in the gym, and taught me how to modify exercises for my body (especially as someone who is only 5 feet tall). I've also worked with Lo (Lorraine), who has been equally knowledgeable and supportive. Thanks to Pro+Kinetix, I'm now lifting weights confidently, running again, and moving without the limitations I had only a few years ago. They didn't just help me recover but they taught me how to move better for life. If you're considering physical therapy, don't wait. The team at Pro+Kinetix genuinely cares about helping you reach your goals, whatever they may be, and I'm incredibly grateful for everything they've done for me.

Because I had switched to a new…read morenon-Kaiser health insurance plan, I found that an extraordinary physical therapist I'd received excellent care from in the past was working at Emeryville Sports Therapy. I booked an appointment with Oliver Mok, a truly gifted physical therapist with a doctorate in PT. Oliver rescued me from a life of disability after 2 car accidents in 2003 that left me with an SI joint dysfunction and a piriformis muscle strain. I couldn't stand or sit for very long and was in agony most of the time. Without medication, I was able to recover to near full capacity because of Oliver's expertise and precision with treatment plans. He was equally thoughtful and gentle with my frozen shoulder so I was able to recover much more quickly than others with the same condition. Overall the Emeryville Sports Therapy staff was friendly and welcoming to me and my service dog. They were efficient and timely with appointments as well. I definitely recommend checking out Emeryvile Sports Therapy if you need PT.

They both gave me strengthening exercises to do at home. The third therapist I saw several times. She pushed her thumb or fingers very hard into my Quads and hamstrings. I complained about how really painful it was. She kept telling me the only way to get those muscles to relax was to apply strong pressure. My appointments were scheduled with her on a weekly basis for about six weeks. I went to the next two but I was beginning to recognize that I did not agree with her treatment. I continued to complain about how much it hurt but she barely reduced the pressure and kept telling me it was necessary. I decided to look up some reliable information which actually agreed with me that muscles react to pain with increased guarding and tension. I also remembered that my Qi Gong teacher often reminded us to go easy - that Qi flows toward relaxation not toward maximum effort. I canceled the rest of my appointments. This PT business does have good therapists and was well recommended to me. It is quite busy however and the first therapist I saw did not have any available other appointments until after my knee surgery was scheduled when I would no longer be able to drive and would be getting in home PT.

My six-month program with them met my changing needs at every appointment. My therapist, Will, is a great listener and moved me along week by week with a battery of exercises that were never too harsh and always helped my body move toward recovery. I arrived with a 78-year-old body experiencing burning tendinitis from overuse in every joint in both legs. Every step was incredibly uncomfortable. Hip replacement was not the answer. My future was bleak. Today I walked out of the building up a hill to my car without a cane, with no pain. Two days ago I took an hour walk around Lake Temescal with no pain. I am ecstatic. While I recognize it is up to me to be faithful to my PT exercises and resolve to check back in with Renew quarterly so I don't "slip" in my form, I am very grateful for this new lease on life. A massage therapist told me I had a tight piriformis muscle but I didn't know exactly how to address it, except with short-term pain relief. Even though I have insurance, I came to Opus Physio because I wanted someone really great, who would work with me one-on-one in every single session. In my initial assessment, Ki quickly zeroed in on the fact that I had a muscle imbalance where my left hip muscles were weaker, causing the piriformis muscle to work too hard and start acting up. Over the next few months, he helped me bring my strength back up on my left side so that it is comparable to the right, and I haven't had any pain since. Ki is super knowledgeable, kind and patient. I felt like I could ask him any question and his explanations were always very thorough. He helped trouble-shoot any other issues that came up as I went through the exercises. When my treatment ended, I felt like I was equipped to maintain the improvements I had made and go on to have a normal workout routine. I highly recommend Ki if you're looking for someone who can diagnose you right away, create a tailored treatment plan and is attentive to you in every session. If I ever have any issues in the future, I will definitely come back to Opus Physio.
