The thing I like best about this style of chiropractic treatment, ART, is that there is an emphasis on healing in just a visit or two if possible and teaching you how to manage the injury or weakness through taping and/or exercises. This visit was for knee pain, some related to IT band tightness. Jess did some deep tissue work on the IT band with a pain-relieving lotion then did cupping with a little Chinese cupping therapy kit. With the cups in place she moved my leg in a way it wasn't able to move before she began the treatment because it was too painful. She explained that how she was using them was different than Chinese medicine because she wasn't using meridians. The cupping looked really freaky. Big disks of my skin were sucked up into the cups and the skin turned reddish purple. It can leave round bruises but I didn't get any. She slid the cups around a little with the aid of the lotion on my skin. She told me that I could purchase an inexpensive kit online and treat myself with the cups. I found a small one for about $15 and it has helped a lot. She also put two lengths of spider tech kinesiology tape around my knee to stabilize it. I've tried to replicate this at home though it is hard to get in the same exact spot but I think it has helped some anyway. She also suggested biking to strengthen my quadriceps. In any case, one visit with helpful suggestions and my knee is on the way to better when healing had been stuck. Highly recommended.
