I saw Dr. Cheng for shoulder pain - he diagnosed it as a bicep tendon and helped me rehab it over a few weeks. He was super clear with the issue, recovery timeline, and rehab exercises. I definitely recommend seeing him for your issues! Booking online was super easy and I could get appointments within a week. He also is open early and at lunch so I could work in a weekly session around my work schedule read more

Ki is seriously the best! Last year I started having pain in my left hip and lower back (I suspect from sitting too much at my desk job). A massage therapist told me I had a tight piriformis muscle but I didn't know exactly how to address it, except with short-term pain relief. Even though I have insurance, I came to Opus Physio because I wanted someone really great, who would work with me one-on-one in every single session. In my initial assessment, Ki quickly zeroed in on the fact that I had a muscle imbalance where my left hip muscles were weaker, causing the piriformis muscle to work too hard and start acting up. Over the next few months, he helped me bring my strength back up on my left side so that it is comparable to the right, and I haven't had any pain since. Ki is super knowledgeable, kind and patient. I felt like I could ask him any question and his explanations were always very thorough. He helped trouble-shoot any other issues that came up as I went through the exercises. When my treatment ended, I felt like I was equipped to maintain the improvements I had made and go on to have a normal workout routine. I highly recommend Ki if you're looking for someone who can diagnose you right away, create a tailored treatment plan and is attentive to you in every session. If I ever have any issues in the future, I will definitely come back to Opus Physio. read more

I worked with Dr. Bhakta leading up to and after my microdiscectomy surgery, and I was very happy with the care I received. He always explained what was happening in a clear, reassuring way. He created a personalized exercise and stretching plan that directly targeted the symptoms and weaknesses I was dealing with, and he adjusted it quickly whenever things changed. I also really appreciated his approach to appointments. Instead of having me come in multiple times a week to repeat the same routines, he saw me about once a month to evaluate progress and increase the difficulty of exercises as needed. It felt purposeful and efficient. He was also readily available by email for questions, which made the whole process even smoother. read more

As a professional aerialist with complex body needs - including significant hypermobility - I can't recommend Opus Physio highly enough. I've worked with many physical therapists over the years, but what sets Ki apart is his deep, nuanced understanding of movement, joint mechanics, and how to support bodies that don't fall within the "standard" framework. From the moment I walked in, I felt seen and supported. Ki not only acknowledged my hypermobility but tailored my sessions to enhance stability within the framework of the extreme physical practices I train. Ki took time to understood the unique demands aerial work on the body, and was able to work with my training. Highly recommend!! read more

I'm deeply grateful to Dr Ki Cheng for helping me recover from a debilitating IT band issue with my knee. Ki diagnosed the issue at our first meeting, worked with me weekly over the next few months at his office/gym in Temescal, and prescribed exercises to do at home. I appreciate Ki's skill, deep intelligence, empathy and sense of humor. I felt better within weeks. I enjoyed our sessions together and with his help, was able to develop a home program that works. Thank you Ki! read more

Ki and Opus Physio is the best! I dislocated my ankle and was in a boot for two months. My foot and ankle were super inflexible and I had a lot of pain from plantar fascitits that was worsened by my accident. Ki was extremely calming, encouraging and knowledgable about how to strenthen and heal my body. The message therapy and excercises made me look forward to every session. I like that he had a set plan and didn't rush my healing, he helped with the mental and physical needs that come with healing the body. I could see my progress each week as I did the provided routines. Additionally, it is clear Ki has created a wonderful community of providers, clients and people. He is intentional in building community where he works and in the space. Thank you Ki and Opus Physio! read more

Moved to Oakland this summer for senior year of ball. Hurt myself at practice and thought I was gonna miss fall sports. Dr.Ki has WORKED me back to physical peak and provided LOTS of extra information to not only combat injuries but prevent any pains from happening. Ki was absolutely life changing for me. I have had intense lower back pain for years and went to multiple pts in my network and nothing changed. Yeah I got a little stronger but my pain didn't go away and I was feeling hopeless. I heard about Ki through a referral and was a little worried about committing because he was out-of-network but it has been worth every penny. Within a few months he was able to teach me how to manage my pain, gave me a plan to get better, and most of all he was able to identify the root cause of my pain. Even though he was nice, he was also very honest with me which occasionally gave me the kick in the behind I needed. I never felt like he pushed me unreasonably though, and is very willing to dial things back appropriately. 10/10 would recommend! read more

Ki changed my life and I can't thank him enough for it. I should have sought help a long ago but better late than never! I've been feeling weak and hopeless about whether I will ever get better but after having a few months of physical therapy with Ki, I don't feel pain in my lower back anymore. My recovery journey has been so transformative. Ki is reliable, compassionate and kind. His demeanor and professional assessment immediately put me at ease and provided a sense of hope and confidence in the rehabilitation process. His personalized treatment plan was tailored to address specific needs and goals for alleviating pain and getting stronger. Throughout each session, Ki patiently guided me through a series of targeted exercises and techniques designed to build muscles, improve mobility, and enhance strength. Before I started PT with Ki, my back would give up and I would be in acute pain for a few weeks to months at a time every few months or so for the past 5 years. I felt hopeless and discouraged. I wasn't able to move very well or lift anything due to pain. But now, I am pain-free and I feel more empowered to take an active role in managing my health. I am so deeply grateful for everything I learned from him. Physical therapy with Ki was one of the best decisions I've made for myself in recent years. Every penny was worth it and more. read more

I have had the opporunity to work with KI and he has been nothing short of amazing. Ki is respectful and attentive. He listens to his patients on the problems that they are running into and he is able to provide a great assessment and a treatment plan that will work specifically for his patient. I had strained my rotator cuff and he diagnosed it right away and we got straight to work on what was needed to get it start recovering. He also was able to identify issues in my back and the stiffness in joints and provided some stretches and foam rolling exercises to do at home to start loosening them up. Ki is an amazing professional and will do what's best for his clients and goes the extra mile in supporting their goals. read more

I had a weird injury on my wrist where I fell off a moped and had to try to catch it before it crashed onto the ground. I went to see Ki and he gave me one of the best consultations I had, ranging from understanding why the pain existed, remediation steps in rehab and also some physical therapy on the spot for some pain relief. Ki has been my go-to person for all questions revolving around understanding my physical therapy needs for quite some time and I highly recommend his services! His bedside manners are amazing as well and made me very comfortable in going through exercises with him to target problem areas from injuries. Protip: Ask him to show you photos of his cute cat read more

Ki is incredibly knowledgeable, meticulous, and thoughtful. The therapeutic massage on the table is soothing and the exercises both during the session and at home are super helpful. The gym/ office is also a pretty nice space with great music. read more

I started a physical therapy program with Dr. Cheng due to a spinal stress fracture and lumbar disc issues. Dr. Cheng crafted a thoughtful, methodical, and effective program that took me from not being able to walk more than a mile without pain, all the way to running 5Ks, going on long hikes, skiing, and doing all the things I love again. Each session is very well-rounded, not only focusing on massage and pain relief, but also on strength training and functional movements. I can't recommend Dr. Cheng enough. read more

I have been working with Ki for 3 months to rehabilitate a chronic neck injury that had plagued me for over 2 years. From the initial diagnosis, Ki quickly identified muscle imbalances and mobility issues contributing to the chronic pain. We meet in 1-hour sessions consisting of half assessment with manual therapy, then half closely supervised exercises. Having worked with more conventional physical therapists in the past who did not personalize their approach and often left me to do exercises with unfamiliar aides, I appreciate Ki's format to work together privately for the whole appointment time. Another one of Ki's major strengths is that he is super knowledgeable about a variety of exercises to tackle both muscle strengthening and mobility therapy from many angles. I was very happy that he checked in every session to see if the exercises still felt engaging and helpful, readily modifying them if I felt one was not helping my progress. Finally, Ki is very professional and organized. Despite being an out-of-network provider, he has been as helpful as possible with providing documents for my insurance claims. I am looking forward to continuing to work with Ki. read more

I highly recommend Ki at Opus Physio if you need a PT who is going to give you thorough, thoughtful, and kind treatment. I had been experiencing extreme pain in my lower back and hips for months, and nothing was working. I wanted to get back to running so badly, but didn't see how that would happen, as the pain would not go away. I came to see Ki and I felt my anxiety subside instantly because I knew I was in good hands. I felt hopeful for the first time in months. He conducted a thorough assessment and came up with a treatment plan. His treatments incorporate massage and stretching, strength training, and cupping if necessary. He is punctual, communicative, and very caring, often checking in via email and text. I am so grateful for his help in getting my life back, and I cried the first time I was able to run again. Thank you Ki! read more

Ki is a life changing agent worth the investment of out-of-pocket care. Before finding Ki's practice with Opus Physio, I worked with 2 other PT's in-network with insurance and did not get the benefit or result that I wanted, which has been a full recovery and return to a sport (pole dance) that an injury took me out of for 3 years. Ki is masterful in his craft, clearly takes great pride in his work, and is able to get you the result you want if you are able to do the work he recommends. A+ and highly recommend if you have the resources to spend. read more

Krishan played a vital role in my recovery from a foot injury. I am a 21-year-old student who runs around 50+ miles a week, which unfortunately puts a lot of strain on my body. Krishan was a great listener; his treatment and strength and mobility program helped me return to running in around a month. His holistic approach helped me identify certain muscle imbalances and weaknesses, allowing me to not only recover but come back stronger and hopefully run even more mileage in the future. read more

I've been working with Ki for nearly a year. He is the best and finest PT I've worked with (have worked with close/over 10 PTs). He's been able to treat me for injuries that other PTs that I trust and abide by--weren't able to solve. His educational background is top notch and his actual skill/application are the finest I've come across. Ki also has an Olympic Weightlifting background, giving him the expertise to really debug what's wrong with various movements or modalities people have. A lot of reviews come off as pure flattery, but the guy (in my opinion) is the sharpest PT I've ever worked with. Would not hesitate to recommend doing an intro or consult with him. read more

Ki was my first experience with PT and highly recommend him. We worked together for a number of months after my aging body started experiencing a variety of difficulties, prompted from running and strength training. Ki was very patient with me, listened thoroughly and spent the energy needed to figure out what specifically was causing my pain. He also has a really funny dry humor read more

I highly recommend Ki for anyone looking for a PT in the east bay. I am a recreational athlete (played competitively in my youth, but mid-30s now) who developed chronic knee issues when my body couldn't withstand playing soccer like I did before the pandemic. I previously worked with another PT, but never felt like he understood my issues. Then, in my first evaluation with Ki, he made observations about my knees that made me think, "that's exactly what it feels like! someone finally gets it!" He planned very do-able, yet still challenging, weekly exercise plans for me, and pushed me during our in-person sessions while always respecting my limits. He has a great demeanor for the work, truly listens to and watches you to see precisely how you are improving or not, and adjusts his approach to fine-tune your work together. I could not recommend Ki more! read more

Ki helped me tremendously with my neck and back pain. I work on my computer all the time and have been in pain for a long time. For years I have tried many different chiropractors and physical therapists but I can confidently say that Ki was the best of them all. He is a very knowledgeable, experienced and caring therapist who would patiently explain to me my issues and how the work he was going to do on my body would help with that issue. He would always closely monitor my movements and exercises and make adjustments based on my progress. I would always feel so much better after my visits with him. Unfortunately, I had to move out of town but every time I go back, I make sure to pay him a visit and have him work on me and review my exercises. Last year after I got covid, the pain in my back became excruciating and unbearable and I thought it would take months before I could feel any better. I flew from LA to Oakland to see Ki, and after only one session of him working on my back and giving me a new set of exercises, it all felt normal again. Even after being out of town for a few months, I'm still in touch with him and keep him updated of my progress. I HIGHLY recommend him and can't wait to be back in Oakland to pay him another visit at his new practice. read more

Ki is fully amazing!! He has helped me tremendously. I've seen many physical therapists over the years, but Ki's expertise goes above and beyond! I have had several issues and setbacks with my body, many that I thought I would never fully recover from. But through working with Ki, I've learned to become more aware of my body mechanics and that it really is possible to greatly improve, even when dealing with chronic issues. Thank you so much Ki!! I am forever grateful!! read more

Ki is Great person, who loves helping individuals grow mentally and mostly regaining confidence on the road to recovery. My experience with Opus Physio facility was the best, due to the seriousness of my injury and first time being injured as an athlete, Ki is going to encourage you to become comfortable in the uncomfortable situations when recovering. I would recommend Opus Physio, 10/10 to anyone seeking knowledgeable assistance from a Physical therapy specialist. read more

I pulled my back muscle from lifting weights (specifically squats). After a few months, I thought my back would be all healed, but it did not. I was never able to work out my lower body the same. I spoke with a few PTs, and Ki gave me the soundest advice. He is honest and never tries to sell me more than anything I don't need. He knew exactly what my problem was. After a few weeks of his program, I can now say I'm fully recovered and back to my regular workout routine. I can't thank him enough! read more
