Gretta and my therapist worked well together to expedite my healing. The training helped me to use the exercises my therapist gave me, supplemented by exercises Gretta suggested, much more effectively than I would have been able to do on my own. I continued working with Gretta after my therapy had ended not only to keep but to improve the strength I'd gained. I enjoyed the training so much I now work with Gretta on a weekly basis and have for over a year. My balance has improved, my muscles are stronger and my endurance has increased. Gretta is wonderful! She consistently goes above and beyond for her clients. She is exceptionally friendly and easy to talk to. She makes me feel very comfortable. Gretta adjusts the training to fit the pace and needs of the client. She listens to my concerns and goals and comes up with a program that works for me (how much time I want to spend, etc.) to help me achieve those goals. Gretta consistently invites me to email her throughout the week if I have any questions. She is professional and efficient but also a lot of fun and the time goes quickly! I look forward to our training sessions. On a scale of 1-5, Gretta deserves at least 10 stars!

Ive been seeing Gretta 2x/month for over a year and it has been so helpful in maintaining & complimenting the recovery progress I made in physical therapy. Gretta is like having a personal cheerleader who is very knowledgeable about your body! She tailors her exercises to your lifestyle, age, and abilities. I feel challenged but successful in doing the exercises. The hour flies by & I leave feeling positive & energized! Gretta gives you an exercise plan that you can do at home & adapts it over time. The exercises are well-planned & varied so there's always something new combined with repetition so you can do the routine at home & see your progress. Its helpful for me to have her to be "accountable" to. When I cant do the exercises for whatever reasons, Gretta is never judgement or critical & accepts people "where they are at"! I highly recommend Gretta Kirkby as a personal trainer & the positive vibe at SOL in Berkeley!! Tami B.

I booked an appointment with Oliver Mok, a truly gifted physical therapist with a doctorate in PT. Oliver rescued me from a life of disability after 2 car accidents in 2003 that left me with an SI joint dysfunction and a piriformis muscle strain. I couldn't stand or sit for very long and was in agony most of the time. Without medication, I was able to recover to near full capacity because of Oliver's expertise and precision with treatment plans. He was equally thoughtful and gentle with my frozen shoulder so I was able to recover much more quickly than others with the same condition. Overall the Emeryville Sports Therapy staff was friendly and welcoming to me and my service dog. They were efficient and timely with appointments as well. I definitely recommend checking out Emeryvile Sports Therapy if you need PT.

I highly recommend them for PT and would definitely work with them again (though hopefully I'll be healthy enough that I never have to!). What stood out to me was the level of expertise, professionalism, and kindness I received from everyone I worked with, from the physical therapists and assistants to the front desk staff. Dr. Medina's calm demeanor was a balm for my jangled nerves when I first showed up--and she helped me through many months of recovery after foot surgery. I also had the pleasure of working with Dr. Diehl, who always patiently answered my many questions, cheered me on, and made me feel relaxed with his easy bedside manner and sense of humor. I even got to work with Dr. Gee a few times when he covered for folks who were out, which was fantastic because I got a fresh perspective on my issues. The PT assistants Claire, Kyle, and Amara were super helpful and friendly. And, of course, Nina was the delightful "face" of the business when I came through the door and opened my email, no matter how many schedule changes I needed to make. When we come in as patients, I know it can make us feel vulnerable, maybe even a tiny bit broken (I recall Dr. Diehl replying to that sentiment by saying I was just slightly and temporarily bent, not broken :) ). Despite that feeling, or even because of that, I encourage folks to show up open to the experience. For me, the more I was willing to connect with the good people at G-Sports, the more I got out of it. Thank you for helping me unbend all my bent parts, G-Sports! And good luck with your PT, everyone! :)

Worse yet, he made numerous mistakes with my billing that resulted in them sending me to collections instead of charging the alternate card I put on file with them (more than once, mind you). Apparently the same jerk at the front desk with zero empathy just never bothered to do that and sent the file to collections. I was in the hospital at the time due to a more severe back injury than the one I came in with a couple months before, so of course I wasn't receiving whatever messages they were sending for a $45 bill. The therapists there at the time don't even work there anymore. When I called back to schedule more appts after getting out of the hospital, the same guy told me he would check what I needed to do to clear up the bill and schedule a next appt. Two weeks later I still had not received a call back to tell me anything, and when I called again it was the same attitude and lack of empathy on the other end of the phone. Now he's saying I needed to provide proof of payment (despite the collector not providing a way to pay on the web or in any way that provides a receipt). Instead of doing what any other professional organization would have done (call the collector and confirm it was paid), he told me that they can't schedule anything without proof of payment, which is impossible to provide when you paid over the phone. Of course he hadn't bothered to tell me that or call me back to let me know before I paid, I was now I gems that I needed to call them back and ask them to send some receipt. Of course by now the letter was shredded so I have nothing to go on. This egoistic creep didn't do his job and then expects patients to jump through extra hoops just to receive care in a cramped clinic (where he openly talks sh*t about them once they walk out the door or hang up the phone). What a terrible excuse for a PT clinic. Such a shame, it's so close to home, but I don't know how I can trust this place when they continue to employ uncaring people with no attention to detail or common sense. Just don't waste your time and money at this location. Find a clinic where people with heart work. Not someone who doesn't remember when he lost whatever passion he may have had for his work.

That's when they attach suction glass to your skin that proceeds to suck on you until you are bruised. This is complete psuedo science and actually quite harmful. It's hard to trust a place that relies on magic and hoodoo when your well being is in their hands. Edit: Since Select Physical answered me, I want to say again, cupping is not medicine. It is complete psuedo-science with zero proof of effectiveness. It was created to "remove toxins" from the body, and of course sucking on the skin cannot do that. It can, however, break blood vessels and cause scarring and infections. It's ridiculous and irresponsible to insist otherwise.

He was kind, seemed to know what he was doing, felt he could help me with my chronic low back pain and elbow tendonitis. I was feeling hopeful when I left. He said he'd like to see me twice/week if possible. Went straight to book the appts at the front desk, but was told they couldn't get me on the books with him again for three weeks. Not great for continuity or knowing whether I was doing the exercises correctly, but I figured it would get easier with time, so I made two appointments, three and four weeks, respectively from the first. After patiently waiting the three weeks, unsure if the exercises were helping or making things worse, it was the day before my 2nd appt with Eric, which I was very much looking forward to, and I got a confirmation text saying I had an appt the next day with "Nia." I looked on the website and she is a PT assistant. And, more importantly, not Eric, who I had the appointment with. That I waited three weeks for. I called to explain this and was told that they don't have enough PTs and that's part of the deal that you'll be seeing PT assistants. No one explained this from the beginning or even mentioned it when I was told by the front desk person I had two appts booked with Eric. This is not the way to treat patients. Eric might have been great and helped me with my pain. I'll never know. I won't be going back.

The thing I like best about this style of chiropractic treatment, ART, is that there is an emphasis on healing in just a visit or two if possible and teaching you how to manage the injury or weakness through taping and/or exercises. This visit was for knee pain, some related to IT band tightness. Jess did some deep tissue work on the IT band with a pain-relieving lotion then did cupping with a little Chinese cupping therapy kit. With the cups in place she moved my leg in a way it wasn't able to move before she began the treatment because it was too painful. She explained that how she was using them was different than Chinese medicine because she wasn't using meridians. The cupping looked really freaky. Big disks of my skin were sucked up into the cups and the skin turned reddish purple. It can leave round bruises but I didn't get any. She slid the cups around a little with the aid of the lotion on my skin. She told me that I could purchase an inexpensive kit online and treat myself with the cups. I found a small one for about $15 and it has helped a lot. She also put two lengths of spider tech kinesiology tape around my knee to stabilize it. I've tried to replicate this at home though it is hard to get in the same exact spot but I think it has helped some anyway. She also suggested biking to strengthen my quadriceps. In any case, one visit with helpful suggestions and my knee is on the way to better when healing had been stuck. Highly recommended.
