My husband and I rocked up to Jacobs Creek for lunch without a reservation on a hot and rainy day…read moreduring the week. We noticed over 100 solar panels on our way in and rain water in use in the bathrooms. It was refreshing to note big business attempting to reduce their footprint. The restaurant has a lovely view of an enormous gum tree which i imagine looks breath-taking lit up at night. Lunch was rack of lamb with ratatoullie, polenta and olive tapenade. We ordered green beans and pumpkin and fetta as side dishes all washed down with a glass of the reserve merlot. Lunch did not disappoint, it was absolutely delicious. The lamb was perfectly cooked medium-rare and the wine and vegetables were complimentary. The service was swift and friendly. Our water glasses were never empty. After lunch we wandered through the garden and down to the creek. Their use of local natives has inspired us for our own garden at home. I would recommend Jacobs Creek restaurant to those who wish to indulge themselves a little. Our only regret is that we didn't have any room left for dessert!

It may not carry the premium wines on board but they do make a light and sweet Moscato and a fairly good Sauvignon Blanc that will go well with fish or brunch. We stopped year when we were sampling various cellar doors in Barossa and upon taking our drink to the outside verandah, we were absolutely blown away by the spectacular views of the vineyards, large shady gum trees and rolling hills dotted with trees. Relax by the numerous barrell type tables and with soothing music playing in the background, I thought I had found the perfect haven to write my book. One thing that striked me about the centre is their kids corner. A dedicated area with toys, books and kids furniture, parents can sample wines whilst minding their kids from the corner of their eyes. Perfect in all sense. A must visit for interstate and international guests.

There is a wine tasting and visitor's centre in front of the dining room, and a private art gallery/museum at the back. I don't think the Chateau makes their own wine as there is a large range of Barossa wines for tasting and selling there. The visitor's centre sells a lot of souvenirs but not necessary made locally or by local craftsmen. The art gallery/museum shows a mish mesh of what the original Chateau owner collected 2 centuries ago. There was crystals, tables and chairs, paintings, dinner sets, vases, clockes etc. There was 2 big tour groups, including ours, on Sunday. The meal was basic, chicken salad with frittata, with bread and roasted potatoes. For the vegetarian in our group, they replaced the chicken with an extra piece of frittata. I definitely tasted much better lunch than what we had there.

Tried out this place for an impromptu lunch during a day trip to Barossa…read more We tried out the wood-fired pizza, as this appeared to be one of their selling points. It was just okay but I can't say it was particularly flavoursome. I felt like the crust was ready made, off premises. We only had an entree and didn't have any mains. Perhaps these are better for showing off their strengths. Service was friendly. There are plenty of dining options available in Barossa. I wouldn't opt for their pizzas here but perhaps their mains are worth trying out.

The location is a beautiful scenic spot in the Barossa Valley so make a day of it and enjoy the drive down to take in the lush rolling hills and captivating sights. When you arrive, make sure you do a bit of wine tasting at the cellar door before your meal. The bar staff were very helpful and insightful when pouring your wine and give great recommendations to pair up the right wine with your meal. We started off with a trio of dips which tasted of fresh beetroot, sweet potato and hummus. I was in the mood for a nice juicy steak that day so opted for the Angus Steak with a mushroom sauce for my main. It was deliciously melt in your mouth, nicely charred on the outside, tender and moist on the inside and packed full of flavour. If you have room for something sweet, you can admire the dessert selection which is akin to admiring a form of artwork. The delicate intricate design was something you'd expect to see from Heston Blumenthal's kitchen - and the taste is there too! I helped organised a gala event dinner for a work conference a few months back at the function room and it was spectacular. The rustic, old world charm with the stone walls, wooden barrels, against the glow of tealight candles just sets the mood for a beautiful intimate event. The staff were delightful to deal with and was efficient in our communications and catered towards every need. I would highly recommend Saltrams for a wedding or special occasion.
