We went there as a group for Sunday lunch and I had high hope as it is in the Barossa Valley which has progressed so much in their food culture in the last 30 years.
There is a wine tasting and visitor's centre in front of the dining room, and a private art gallery/museum at the back.
I don't think the Chateau makes their own wine as there is a large range of Barossa wines for tasting and selling there. The visitor's centre sells a lot of souvenirs but not necessary made locally or by local craftsmen. The art gallery/museum shows a mish mesh of what the original Chateau owner collected 2 centuries ago. There was crystals, tables and chairs, paintings, dinner sets, vases, clockes etc.
There was 2 big tour groups, including ours, on Sunday. The meal was basic, chicken salad with frittata, with bread and roasted potatoes. For the vegetarian in our group, they replaced the chicken with an extra piece of frittata. I definitely tasted much better lunch than what we had there. read more
