I loved the environment of this place. Very warm and sophisticated. I couldn't turn down the soup of the day- a salmon/scallop stew with cilantro rice. To pair, I also ordered the shrimp/crab empanadas. I really enjoyed both! The soup was flavorful and perfectly hearty, and the bread to dip was a perfect touch. The empanadas were great too. I loved the dipping sauce. My only reservation was that the empanadas also included potatoes, and it was too much potato in the ratio of potato to seafood. When the seafood was highlighted in the dish, it was absolutely delicious. We also ordered chicken&waffles. It was delicious! The chicken especially was perfectly crispy on the outside while the meat was anything but dry. Consider getting a half serving because a full is a lot to tackle at once! read more

Incredible restaurant with NYC level hospitality, food quality, service and ambiance. Their wine list is incredible. The chef excels at both meat and vegetarian/vegan dishes. They really have pride in their food. Gunner is a skilled, and awesome bar tender and our server Courtney was incredibly attentive and knowledgable . We just moved out to Corning from NYC and we've find our new place. With The Celler in our neighborhood,we don't miss the NYC's food as much. Bravo! read more

One of the best restaurants in Corning. My wife and I live about 35 minutes away in Waverly, where there's a dearth of not just fine dining, but quality dining in general (even a good burger or pizza is virtually impossible to come by). As NYC transplants to a small rural town, we miss good food and drinks most of all. We've been to the Cellar a few times to celebrate special occasions, or just enjoy a night out, and of all the places we've been to since moving, it's the best of the bunch. It's not perfect. We always choose to sit in the lovely bar area, as the main portion of the restaurant is a little drab by comparison. They have a decent cocktail program, though it drives me nuts that their menu doesn't list the spirits in each drink. But these are nitpicks. First time visitors. Very pleased with everything. Really liked the playfulness and variety on the menu! Who ever heard of a popcorn flavor of the day or a Smore for dessert. We had the popcorn to start and it was great. It had Casein powder on it and it imparted great flavor and just the right saltiness. We sampled some wine (the Cabernet by the glass was wonderful) and my wife had the Gin Mule and she loved it. For entrees I had had a bad week at work and I wanted to indulge myself so I ordered the Wagyu NY Strip. Very satisfying but not quite to the caliber of other Wagyu cut's I've had elsewhere. Everything with it was delicious. Wife had the waffles and subbed the Cauliflower for the chicken. There wasn't a drop left on her plate!! We started our trip over from Naples visiting the Corning Museum of Glass. Little did we know our first visit happened at the same time the Christmas street festival was going on. That was an added bonus but made parking a challenge! But certainly if you are visiting Corning and looking for a great meal this is a must stop place. While visiting the Corning Museum we found The Cellar through an online search. The menu looked appealing and we were happy to discover it was as good as we had hoped. We had martinis and a series of small plates, all delicious, shared a large salad and had the ridiculously good molten lava cake. We immediately made reservations for the next night and had another memorable dining experience: if you like duck, the dry aged duck dish is a must. Service was fantastic. If this restaurant were in Madison WI, which is our home, it would be on a par with any of the best restaurants. Highly recommended! TLDR: Food poisoning, undercooked seafood, complimentary dessert So, this was my first time coming to this establishment and Corning in general. The restaurant was moody and trendy with a lively bar section. Local art on the walls, spacious seating, comfortable overall. The one chair I sat on did have a bit of wobble to it but nothing uncommon. The meal started off with the flatbread and poutine. Flatbread was crispy with a cracker like consistency and had good flavor. The poutine was cheesy and heavy but worth the calories. These were the best items of the night. The mains consisted of seafood hollandaise and bison short ribs (not pictured). The bison short rib was borderline bland, the purée was uninspired, and the sauce that came with the protein was not going to save the day unfortunately. The real downturn of the night was the seafood hollandaise. This dish came and looked fine at first glance but there was an underlying issue. The shrimp were undercooked, translucent, and were not deveined. I stupidly ingested one of the shrimp before noticing the issue. When I addressed the situation the server did not respond and did not provide any feedback. The server later came back to let us know dessert was on them tonight which was a nice gesture but the damage was done unfortunately. At about 12 am that night I was violently sick with food poisoning. Dessert was solid but once again nothing to write home about. Panna cotta was heavy on the cardamom and a bit overpowering. The chocolate lava cake was dense but had good flavor. Unfortunately, there was nothing memorable about this experience. This used to be a solid go-to, but not so sure anymore. GF got the duck and it was dry, I got the wagyu steak and it had no flavor (although temp was med-rare as ordered). Service was ok, nothing exceptional. Seating was a bit tight for my taste. Group of young girls very chatty were seated next to us. We asked to be moved to an empty table by the window, but we're told it was reserved. We were able to move one table over which was a bit better. Next couple that came in was being seated at the table we had just moved from - they asked to be seated by the window instead, and were given the "reserved" table. (?). The Cellar definitely has to do better for a $235 dinner tab in Corning. I don't mind paying for good food and service. I do mind paying top shelf pricing for average at best. I love paying a fortune for an above average meal. A half order or enchiladas for 17.00 is fine for me. If it's served up by a surly wait staffer so much the better. Corning is a culinary black hole and this is the black market. You get a meal that a trendy place in Philly might have served 5 years ago at a premium. There were a lot of positives with this meal, but a few mistakes keep me from giving 5 stars. The staff was great. We have bruschetta fresca and fried artichoke hearts for starters. Both dishes were very good, but the bruschetta could have been toasted more. Entrees were wagyu beef with duck fat fries and sea scallops with stuck rice. The plates were beautiful, but the beef was too salty. Dessert was lava cake and sweet potato creme broke. The lava cake was over bakes and had no lava. The saving grace was the amazing dulche du leche ice cream. Sooo flood! The brule was very tasty. I'd definitely order it again. My major complaint was the price. Picked this place for dinner the night before running the wineglass half due to the healthy menu appearance. Was not disappointed! I like the special note on the menu indicating high quality cooking oils (avocado, olive, etc) are used. This is important to me because the low quality soybean oils normally used in restaurants always tear my stomach apart. I had a 5 oz steak with the vegetable and fries and had no issues or adverse effects afterward. Very thankful! We enjoyed a lovely meal at The Cellar. We took our first post-pandemic vacation in Corning. The Cellar was highly recommended and did not disappoint. Our meal was very well paced and we enjoyed a leisurely and relaxing evening. Service was attentive without being overbearing. We had tasty cocktails too and perused the extensive wine list for future reference. We started with a cheese board, which featured a nice variety of locally sourced cheeses, crackers and a very tasty apricot chutney. We then shared a flatbread, which though good, to be honest, we didn't need. Our entrees, which we shared, were the Chicken and Waffles and Lamb Gnocchi. The chicken was accompanied by a slaw of shaved brussels sprouts and sweet potato hash. Neither one of us likes brussels sprouts. But we could not stop eating it. Everything was just so good. The Cellar is surely a gem in the middle of a small town. We were visiting family in the area and wanted to go to a chill place before heading back and this was the perfect find. They claim to be a fusion restaurant, and the menu surely reflects that. We ordered three tapas: Brussels sprouts and walnuts, poutine and hummus du jour. The Brussel sprouts were great and so was the hummus. However, the hummus is not quite what you'd eat elsewhere. It wasn't very traditional and reminded me little of "hummus." We joked that it was actually a chickpea gazpacho. The poutine was the biggest disappointment as there wasn't enough gravy and the cheeses clashed with each other in favor profile. This has a nice ambiance. We ate at one of the high top tables close to the bar. Our waitress Kourtney was very customer focused and gave us great insight to the foods and which ones are the most popular which was extremely helpful. They have something where you pay $8 to buy a round of drinks for the chefs. In turn they send out a tasting of something they've created. This is a sweet addition. We ordered small plates. I had kale and sweet potato hash which was very tasty. I wouldn't call it hash, more like sautéed but still great. Pork belly was good but not my favorite. I think it was a bit over done. My friend ordered chicken which looked good. And a quinoa dish. She said both were good. We split Brussels sprouts and they were very tasty.
