I would not recommend the CAT DOCTOR to my worse enemy. I have started going to the cat doctor in 1988. The staff are rude and mean. There is on person I want to mention here, her name is Jen ( the office manager ). Jen is evil. She doesn't give a damn about your cat's or the people who have them. Agree with the negative reviews. Poor customer service, receptionists never return calls or answer phone, behavior of front desk unacceptable, prices are twice what I am paying now at another facility. They are failing and it is obvious from the reviews and also from observing while waiting that they really are not that busy which is probably why they overcharge. Today we had bloodwork done to move overseas and we were severely overcharged $518. I asked why the cost when it cost 100 something for my other cat at a different clinic in town. Unfortunately they were the only appt we could get within our window to move. The receptionist had zero clear reason why. I get the economy is bad but this is unacceptable to do this to people. read more

I am so grateful to have found The Cat Doctor on Yelp. Dr. Diaz and his lovely friendly staff took care of both of my family cats for their yearly appointments. For my own sanity, I took the cats in on two different days and both times, were greeted with quality professionalism and kindness. The Cat Doctor has been following proper safety protocols during Covid and has a very organized system in place. Call the office, tell them you are outside, drop the cat off outside the door, get back in your car and 1 second later, your cat is picked up. The follow up call from Dr. Diaz was the most thorough I have ever experienced from a vet. He was unbelievably patient as I peppered him with half a dozen questions and he answered every one as clearly as possible. Payment was taken over the phone and my cats and receipts were dropped off back outside once it was confirmed I was there to pick them up. If you want caring thorough care for your cat, I highly suggest The Cat Doctor to become your veterinarian! read more

I took one of my cats to the Cat Doctor for the first time yesterday. We had previously been with another vet that we were very unimpressed with. Well Dr. Bob and his staff quickly wiped the memory of sub-par care at the other place away. First, my cat loved Dr, Bob. He wan't fearful or anxious. The front desk staff was so helpful and professional (another thing lacking from the previous place) and really knew their stuff. The clinic is clean and modern and run very well. They have an adorable cat that lives at the clinic and greets guests :-) Overall, this is a top quality caring place that does thorough and good work. I have brought my senior cat several times now and couldn't be happier with my experience. Dr. Carlson has been our vet for fourteen years, ever since the day a tiny four-week-old foundling kitten made his way into our lives. That kitten recently passed away as a cat who lived a full, happy, healthy life thanks to "Dr. Bob", the other vets in his practice, and his staff. At the end of his life, it was the thoughtful care of Dr. Richards and Dr. Carlson that made the last few days a treasure and the last few moments quiet, dignified, and caring. Last visit, we were going to be late for our scheduled time. We called in to let them know and they were wonderful, pushing our appointment back as necessary. I've been using the Cat Doctor for nearly 20 years, going back to their original clinic in Bedford. At one point we had 5 felines in the house at once, now I'm down to just one. In all they've cared for 7 felines over the years. There have been a couple of live saving incidents among the routine care. I've worked with all 3 Vets, Rob, Anne, and Jan. They've all been fabulous. The staff have all been extremely nice and helpful too. I no longer live close by, it's a good 45 minute drive. But I'm still going there, it's well worth the peace of mind and the quality of the care. read more

They don't seem to care about their patients, or their human customers. I have brought my cat here for three years, originally because it was very close to where I was living. He is an adopted cat was adopted at around 3-4 years of age. Understandably, his arrival into my life was a little bumpy-he had some trust issues and wasn't the most handle-able cat. When I brought him in the first time, about a month after I adopted him, the doctor told me he was surprised that I adopted him considering he's a "difficult cat." I'm not saying that vets can't have that opinion, but how does it help your client to tell them that?! I wasn't going to go give him back to the shelter...also it had only been one month. Needless to say I freaked out a bit worrying that I made a huge mistake. A couple months later and he started to open up and we really started to bond. Three years later and we have a really nice relationship and he's become way more comfortable with his people and with touching. Of course, the vet is still stressful for him. The last two times I took him in for his annual physical, they gave me a small dose of gabapentin to relax him, but each time it did not seem to do much. I assumed there was nothing more they could do with regards to sedation so I didn't worry about it. Each time I asked them to microchip him and they didn't, saying that he seemed to agitated. Well, at our most recent visit in December, they told me that they did not want to microchip him at that appointment but that I should call back and schedule an appointment just for the microchip at a later date. This sounded like a pain but I figured they knew best. Fast forward to this afternoon, I called up the Cat Doctor to try to make an appointment for his microchip to be inserted. The secretary tells me that he is difficult to work with and will need gabapentin, that I already knew. Then she tells me that they might not be able to get the microchip inserted due to his behavior. I tell her that I really want it because god forbid he gets out, I want that extra bit of insurance, plus everyone recommends it. I asked her "so what you're saying is that I could go through the hassle of getting him in the car, driving 30 minutes, giving him the gabapentin, and you might just not even try'?" to which she replied, verbatim, "well if he's trying to kill us then yeah we're not going to try." Um EXCUSE ME?! I chose a cat-only vet KNOWING that my cat can be difficult, assuming that this meant these people would be willing to handle some classic misbehaving cat-at-the-vet antics (or else why be a cat only vet office?!) It felt like they really didn't care about my cat's wellbeing and didn't really care about the stress of the situation for him either. I told the secretary I would be taking my cat for medical care elsewhere. I called up VCA Arlington immediately after and within 15 minutes I had an appointment for a microchip in April. The nice woman on the phone told me it's ok if he misbehaves, that they'll note that in his chart to make sure the doctor is prepared, and will prescribe him gabapentin for this round and a stronger sedative in the future if necessary (which the Cat Doctor never even suggested or mentioned as an option). They seemed so understanding, animal welfare oriented, and seemed to have a problem-solving attitude for the sake of my pet's health. I will never go back to the Cat Doctor and will never recommend them to anyone. read more

Billerica Cat Care Coalition uses The Cat Dr. for our rescued, foster felines. The staff is extremely thorough in their work, as well as pleasant and considerate. We are especially pleased to have them as our rescue partner for cats or kittens with more unusual medical concerns. They are on top of finding out what each individual feline needs and will continue until they get to the bottom of answers, even when it is a challenging situation. We had to switch vets when we moved so I decided to give The Cat Doctor a try. I read good reviews on Yelp, and since one of my cats is terrified of dogs, I loved that she wouldn't have to suffer additional trauma in the waiting room. Our cat is older and has an existing thyroid problem, common with older cats, so she needed a blood test, a refill, and an anal sac extraction to relieve her "scooting." Dr. Jan (forgot last name!) saw us and spent a lot of time advising us on her thyroid condition and how to manage it. I was really impressed that she noted our cat probably had a food allergy, something we never would have picked up on our own. We were already feeding her a gluten-free/grain-free diet (which eliminated a diabetic condition, something another doctor wanted to treat with insulin), but we had no idea chicken was causing her itchy ears, as well as some mild hair loss we chalked up to "getting old." Within weeks of making diet changes, her ears were clear and her fur is starting to fill out along her spine. I liked that Dr. Jan's food suggestions were holistic -- she encouraged moderated table food feeding, for example, instead of pushing some expensive additive-filled "prescription" cat food our way, something other vets have done. Our old doctor was giving us an enteric-coated thyroid pill that was hell to mash up into food -- Dr. Jan prescribed a thyroid medication that was slightly less expensive, we could get filled at a regular pharmacy, and is easy to crush with the back of spoon. My only "complaints": the bill for that visit came to $350, which seemed high to me, but then again, I moved from a country doc to a practice that's closer to the city so overhead is higher. Still -- it was a shock to my checking account. They also took our cat and did the examination without us being in the room, although when we consulted with Dr. Jan afterwards, our cat was there with us. And I have to say, it was the most calm and comfortable I've ever seen her in a vet's office. Then there was some challenge getting the prescription called in to the pharmacy. When we had gone in to see the vet, we were completely out of medication, and although they assured me they'd call it in that day so I could medicate the cat that night, they didn't call it in until Monday so she went for a few days without it. Still, I'll stick with The Cat Doctor -- I think it's a good practice and the folks there clearly care about their feline patients. read more

Over the last ten years our kitty has had a number of health issues and has seen each of the veterinarians. They have all been great--attentive, thorough, gentle, and thoughtful. They are willing to answer as many questions as we have and take our concerns seriously. The staff have all been outstanding as well. I'm so glad we found this practice. read more

The entire staff including Dr Bob, Dr Ann, and Dr Diaz, as well as the front desk staff are all terrific. They are knowledgeable, patient and have great follow through in terms of returning calls and providing test results promptly. The Cat Doctor is simply not equipped to deal with emergency care, even during office hours so If your animal has any existing illness, I would strongly recommend another practice. I have been going to the Cat Doctor for 10 years and have always been pleased with their care. However when my cat's known asthma condition flared up, the Cat Doctor refused to prescribe her medication without being able to listen to her lungs (even though she had gone in 3 months earlier for a checkup and we had discussed using this exact medication). So fine, I will pay the $70.00 for the doctor's visit so they can listen to her lungs to confirm what we already know and be able to get her medicine. Except that the Cat Doctor won't see her for 48 hours even after I explain that she is in distress and having labored breathing. Thinking this is a clear miscommunication, I ask to speak to the doctor and the front desk tells me that the doctor won't speak to me. Period. The front desk did not provide suggestions for alternative medical care and generally seemed dismissive to situation. I was forced to go to another practice where my cat was seen immediately ("cats who can't breathe need to be seen now" they explained) and she was given the medication that I initially sought. The Cat Doctor also neglected to follow up; No phone call to see if my cat lived thru the weekend. Nothing. I have never known such heartlessness within a medical practice. read more

Dr. Richards took excellent care of our cats for many years. She helped us maintain a cat with failed kidneys in excellent condition for multiple years. She has in-depth knowledge in her field, and is always willing to discuss the details and implications of treatments. She is extremely trustworthy and takes a sensitive and humane approach in her care. read more

I would give the Cat Doctors 6 stars if I could. We have been taking my 15 year old cat to Dr. Belmonte for three years now, and she has worked wonders with the cat. She knows everything there is to know about cats, and practices traditional Western medicine as well as Chinese medicine. Our cat's kidneys have been in decline for a while now, but Dr. Belmonte has managed to keep her feeling healthy and happy in spite of it. All the staff there is wonderful, you can tell that they really love cats. We are trying to figure out how never to have to move too far from Bedford just so we can be close to the Cat Doctors. read more

Overall very disappointed and offended by how we were treated by this office. Vet techs were unprofessional and rude. For example, my cat urinated in the exam room because she was very sick and incontinent and they swore and complained about having to clean up after her. Well I was extremely displeased with my old vets office to the point where I honestly did not want to take my cat to the vet. Which is horrible because he needed care . So a good friend of mine recommended the cat doctor . I looked over the reviews and they were great so I decided to check it out . Well I am so happy that I did . I had Dr . Ann and she Is absolutely phenomenal ! Not only is she extremely knowledgeable and very informative ,she has that gentle touch to cater and become in tune with your little furry friend . They pay attention to small details, which is so important ; they do not treat you like another client . She has gone above and beyond to extend my cats life to be as healthy as possible. Frustrating and scary experience with Cat Doctor of Bedford. They dispensed medication for my 5-month-old kitten that had been expired for 1.5 YEARS and then did not offer a timely resolution or even an apology for the mistake. Fortunately I noticed the expiration before administering the medication to my kitten, but I'm afraid to think of how many other cats received the expired medication in that timeframe. Receptionist was impatient and insensitive, showing no interest in the well-being of my animals. The Cat Doctor exhibited a lack of concern and respect for its clients, both feline and human. Suggest you bring your cats elsewhere to get the care they deserve. read more

We had been using a Veterinary office close to our house for many years. The care our cats received seemed fine, the Vet and his staff appeared attentive, skilled, and capable. Then his office closed and we went searching for a new Vet. We stumbled upon The Cat Doctor.... we had no idea what we had been missing. We've been using The Cat Doctor now for over 8 years, and we now know what a truly excellent Veterinary office does. The staff know us and our cats even if we show up unannounced, Dr. Richards has been our primary Vet, but Dr Belmonte has filled in when Dr. Richards was unavailable. They are remarkable, our cats were somewhat skittish around strangers, but both of these Vets know how to hold a cat, give it confidence, and allow it to relax. They appear to genuinely like cats, and the cats recognize it. Their diagnosis skills have particularly helped one of our cats which had a rare allergic reaction to many foods. What might have been a fatal early life defect has been defeated and the cat has had 8 (and counting) healthy, happy years. If you own a cat, this is the place for its health care. read more
