I never intended to visit Bodrum, but due to my partner being stuck on the motorway for hours, we had to abandon our original booking, and found a table at Bodrum. I must thank the M25 for this one!
The food was a revelation, I hadn't tried Turkish food before but I will certainly be trying it again. Firstly the restaurant itself; it is tucked away in a little side street but still easily accessible from the town centre. The restaurant is family run, and the waitresses were very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The decor is rather leftfield; I am referring to a particular painitng that dominates the downstairs dining area, which does not leave much to the imagination, but fits in rather nicely with the whole ethos of the St James' street area!
The menu is traditional and expertly executed. I had Spicy Prawns for starters, (vindaloo hot, very tasty and accompanied by salad with a deliciously tangy Bodrum dressing). We also had turkish sausages to start, which were very heavily seasoned with cumin and ground coriander, but not to the detriment of the dish. Infact, this was what impressed me most about Bodrum. The dishes were absolutely bursting with flavour, and each dish had several really strong flavours on the plate, but they did not fight eachother on your palate, the flavours worked in complete harmony. This is exactly what I would expect from an exstablished, family-run restaurant; the recipes are tried and tested and balanced out prefectly over the years. My Sizzling Lamb Kebab was huge, the lamb was melt-in-the-mouth, and the seasoning on the flat breads were just delicious.
I am looking forward to my next meal at Bodrum BBQ, it really is a little treasure of a restaurant. read more
