Talk about a pleasant surprise! I have intentionally riding past this place since I moved to the area 6 months ago. It looks sketchy on the outside but, never judge a book by its cover. I was warmly greeted as soon as I entered. I chose to sit at the counter. The immediate area is a little tight but there is a dining room area available. The waitresses were both very sweet:-) I ordered the French toast, eggs and bacon. When I saw the French toast I was scared it was going to be bland but it was actually really flavorful. They used real eggs for my scrambled eggs and the bacon was perfectly crisp and. It extra greasy. They checked on me and made sure to deliver the check in good time. I loved it. Such a homey feeling. Had the fish-fry special - 2 huge pieces of haddock, baked potato, veggie and soup - no way I could finish it all. I want to go back and try everything on the menu. I saw other diners with their specials and wanted to ask for a bite. The place is like an authentic movie set of an olde timey diner - complete with cranky (but attentive) waitress and great coffee... AND I was reminded I did not finish my dinner when I asked for pie - WHICH WAS DELICIOUS TOO. I will visit this establishment everytime I am in Canton. read more

Went back for a second try. Ordered the Farmer's Omelet (meat, veggies and cheese), Homemade Toast, and coffee. Sat in the front section. That's the big difference. Banquet room waitress is still there, still grumpy. Front room, much nicer. Kept coming back with coffee refills and checking up on us. Omelet was huge and enough. Toast is massive. Much better experience. Still, a little pricey for what it is. Home fries are a $2+ side on any breakfast, which seems excessive. Especially when coffee is $1 with unlimited refills. Would understand more expensive coffee and gratis potatoes. read more

Review for the motel, not the diner: On the bright side, one of the cheapest rooms in the area, so if that's the deciding factor for you like it is for me, you might end up here. And you'll be just fine. But don't expect anything. Rooms were perfectly fine, but the kind of motel where I wasn't a huge fan of putting my bare feet on the floor. Which could totally be more in my head than in reality, because to be clear there was nothing that necessarily made me believe anything was dirty other than some slight carpet stains that you'd probably find in any comparable motel. Rough towels, and no explicit bathmat so we had to compromise one of our hand towels to serve as a bathmat. We also had a situation where our shower curtain actually fell down randomly, which was frustrating, but the housekeeper put it back up without us even having to ask. Some random thoughts: -Our room did have an extra cot in it without us asking for it, so if you might need extra bed space, that's good to know. -The key was very hard to use...it wouldn't turn a lot of the time and we kind of had to fight with it. Again not a dealbreaker, but hints at the less-than-stellar quality of the motel. -The location is pretty nice - walking distance to St. Lawrence, the little town, and some little trails around the river. Overall, I can't say that I would for sure not come back here just because I'm so price-conscious, but if I had a little extra money to spend I would definitely want to look elsewhere. read more

Great cafe! Menu is a classic cafe menu. I had the chili which was great. My co workers got a burger and an ham and cheese sandwich which they both said their meal was good. Atmosphere in the back room is quaint with a nice view. read more

Could be so much more than it is... the only thing that saves them from one star is the milkshakes... The cascade is a Diner that could be soooo much more. It has a great spot right in downtown Canton next to the River and the new recreation area on Coakley Island. But alas this great spot is pretty wasted on standard diner fare and not great diner fare at that. I have been going to the Cascade a couple of times a year for my entire life and never thought the food was more than ordinary and sometimes it has been pretty bad. The one item I will say they do well is milkshakes, which I definitely recommend. The atmosphere is diner all the way and they view of the river and downtown is very, very underutilized with some pretty ratty looking windows. My dream is for someone to take this place over and make a nice restaurant out of it and fix up the Bucaneer lounge in the basement and revamp the rooms in the back into a decent place to stay while they are at it. I think a nice BBQ place with a deck overlooking the water would be a fantastic addition to Canton, sadly I think this place is pretty much a waste of space... read more

Overpriced and the food is really bad. Breakfast can be safe here, but I've also had the home fries be reheated from an earlier order meaning they were lukewarm and soggy. Burgers are definitely to be avoided because even if you order medium-rare it will be served well done or worse. I tried the reuben on my next visit but the corned beef was literally half fat half meat. I really wish the food was more afforable and of better quality as the location is convenient and the views from the riverside tables are pretty excellent. read more

I really wasn't expecting much than a view when I read the reviews of this restaurant, so, was totally surprised. First, only two tables have views of the cascades. One was occupied and the other was dirty. The waitress quickly cleaned the table for us after we requested. Would love to come back for breakfast. The cinnamon sticky buns looked tall and fluffy and homemade, as did the cake donuts. We were there for lunch. The salad bar looked good - with what looked like homemade rolls and bread - wide selection of different types of salad. 3 in the party had grilled salmon burgers - and all 3 agreed it was one of the best they'd had. I opted for the special of the day - a fried haddock sandwich with a side of mac and cheese. The fish was thick and juicy, not greasy. The mac and cheese wasn't the velveeta crap one normally gets as 'homemade'. The mac and cheese was from 'real' cheese, but could have used a bit more cheese and seasoning. All in all it was a good experience. Almost a 5. Service was prompt and cheerful. We paid about $17 for a salmon burger, haddock burger, mac and cheese and french fries (both sides were generous -- not huge but more than enough). No drinks. I thought that was reasonable. read more

My family has stayed at The Cascade for almost a decade - and - several times a year, when we can. We have family nearby, and the hotel rooms are kitschy. I like the simplicity of it, and how friendly all the folks are that work there. The restaurant has home made food, nothing fancy, but TOTALLY reliable. OK, this is in no way fancy - and neither are the prices. We have never had a dirty room - or - one that has been smoked in (and I have been to 'better' hotels that emphatically tell you one thing and deliver something else. It is NOT the typical 4-5 star hotel, yet I feel it IS, as it delivers consistently and that is worth a LOT!! read more

I cleaned hotel room for 3 yrs. This is the worst cleaning I have ever seen! Went into the room and there was the nasty carpet floors, they hold so much bacteria its unreal, there were stains on them. Didn't look like it was vacuumed very well at all. Needless to say the sink area had a cig butt and candy wrapper on the floor and didn't look like it was swept at all, the sink had hair in it. Their body wash is in a soap dispenser outside of the shower area.. How is anyone supposed to manage that? Take a had full of it and try getting their clothes off with a ton of body wash in their hands?? The shower sprayed everywhere so the floor go soaked. There was another kind of wrapper on the floor on the side of the bed. A SMOKING ROOM with NO ashtray!?!? Two TVS with the cable all fuzzy. All in all I couldn't complain about the price but the care of it is disgusting... I will never stay at this hotel again!! Get some new cleaners! If you need one, maybe ill help, but it would take me all day in one room to get it cleaned to standards, BTW I used to work at the Wolfclan Hotel and their rooms are beautiful!!!! Hard wood flooring bedding changed daily, they even have coffee pots in the rooms not to mention dish network tv that works! With a restaurant right under the rooms that provide room service!
