PROS: this place is amazing! Food is fresh, well priced, menu variety is plentiful, food came out fast, staff was friendly, and atmosphere was nautical. CONS: there's only paid street parking and it's normally taken up OVERALL: as long as parking isn't an issue for you I highly recommend coming here! It even has a great view of the water read more

Just as consistently delicious as when reviewed in past. We love and can't resist a sunny outside table with a view of the water. This is usually the last place we visit before heading home to NYC ....twice now we've stopped for lunch, decided last minute to bring chowder/lobster rolls back home to the family for dinner. The staff couldn't be more helpful, food lovingly and safely packed for the trip and fully enjoyed by everyone. It's starting to feel like our ritual. Thanks Captain Kidd!! read more

Ambience: was great it overlooked the water is a very spacious atmosphere. It has like a old school feel with the wooden chairs and the wooden bar Service: was greeted Timely and seated properly it took a little while for the waitress to come over even though they were fully staffed it seemed like she may have bitten more than she could chew or they assigned her too many tables because the other waitresses were being laxidasical. So it wasn't for her for we were easily able to identify that she was working a lot of tables as to why we didn't get service as promptly as other areas. Food: food was pretty good I wouldn't recommend the lobster bisque for I was expecting being in this area to actually see chunks of Lobster in my lobster bisque but it was more broth than Lobster so I was a little bit disappointed for I was looking forward to some very fresh lobster bisque. The other options that we have tried was cheeseburgers and just American eats which you can't really go to wrong with that The only reason why I gave this place four stars is that where they set us it was blocking another table and the seat itself was just like a wooden log no cushion no back so sitting on something like that for an extended period of time trying to enjoy a meal is in my ideal of fine dining. And base were our table was sitting it appeared that the booth that we were blocking there were two couples that came and tried to sit there and they just couldn't take how congested that area was so they were receiving both times. I think that if we're going to sit on wooden logs maybe attached cushion to them but overall a great place to take your family are a group or business partners read more

We almost didn't eat here because of the three star average rating on Yelp. I gave it 5 Stars to bring up the average. It was probably 4-4.5. Everything was very good and the service was great. The homemade pimento cheese and crackers is a must. The Rueben Eggs rolls were exactly what you'd expect. read more

great location. had a good burger. service was good. expensive, but not surprisingly so.

I really enjoyed the food here. Family and I had a mahi burger a fried chicken sandwich a cheeseburger and shrimp tacos. All were delicious and with a view of the sea was gorgeous. The service was well delivered. I would definitely come back here. read more

What'a trip to Woods Hole without a dinner at the Kidd? Not much, so we did it yet again. Very quiet night, Cool and damp, and midweek done that before. But this year much more quiet, Most of the other restaurants are no longer open full time, fewer than before Covid which was hard on my hometown downtown eateries also. So not a surprise. He had one of our traditional dinners here, the mussels. As good as ever. Most of the rest were fried options and thought I used to love most of them, I really an not supposed to anymore. So the mussels were a nice thing to have. And the tasty garlic toast. My husband had a beer and I had the Fruit Runner Cocktail. We shared a dessert and happy to do so. We will always return to the Kidd, unless they change it dramatically. There was a nice fire in the center and still the gorgeous view of Eel Pond out the window. And always a responsive server. read more

A group of four of us from out of town stopped in at Capt'n Kidd for an early dinner, we arrived about 4:30 PM on a Thursday. The look and feel immediately made me feel like we made the right choice. We were immediately seated in a room off the end of the bar with a great view of the water. Our server took our drink order and we started looking over the menu. The ladies liked the hot cider (alcoholic) drinks and my Manhattan was acceptable. We ordered 4 apps for the table. Spinach dip, Reuben egg rolls, tuna tartare, and crab cakes. We also got soup, a mix of NE Clam Chowder and Lobster Bisque. All were very good but the standout was the Tuna tartare which was fantastic. For entrees we had scallops, kale salad (large and small) and a k.c. cheeseburger (recommended by our server). Now I would not normally order a burger at a seafood joint, but when she recommended it... The burger was one of the best cooked burgers I have ever had, perfect sear, fully cooked, and very juicy. I was glad for that choice. The scallops were very good as well and one of the kale salads had shrimp added. Everyone was very happy. I suppose I don't have to say it, but Capt'n Kidds will be a top choice for dinner the next time we are in Woods Hole. read more

walked out today. 3 people at the bar including myself. asked if they had frozen drinks. was told yes but would take a while. suggested ordering something simple for quicker service. never in a million years. walked out. We rode our bikes on the shining sea bike path and stopped here for lunch. Great seats right on the water - very relaxing! Fish tacos were amazing as was the calamari! Service was very slow. Our waitress said she got pulled in to bartend and didn't have a chance to check on her tables. We would definitely go again though. read more

Beautiful views. Had a wonderful glass of wine. Wanted more but waitress never returned. Maybe they don't check on people who don't order food? I came here with a plan to work and sip wine. At the moment my wine glass is empty and my water is on the way. I've been working at different restaurants the last few weeks. Some places I had food and drinks. Other places just drinks. So far this is the only place where the waitress didn't even check to see if I wanted anything else. It's crazy too because I came here for the final Celtics game a week or so ago and the bar was packed but my glass never went empty. The bartender checked in. I had several drinks and when I was finished but my friends were still drinking he still kept my glasses filled with water. Amazing experience. Today. Meh! So because of that waiter I'll give two stars. 5 star service on my last visit. 0 stars today. read more

Grandma, parents and three kids 13 and under went at 4:30 pm on a Wednesday. Not many diners at that time v When paying, I saw a 'gratuity' of almost $25, more than 15% of the bill. Apparently it's charged to parties of 6 or more. Food was good, service was great and it was nice to sit on Eel Pond. The Kidd has been a reliable restaurant in Woods Hole and I eaten there for decades. The gratuity, and then a good tip made for an expensive experience. Unsure I will return, probably only if there are 5 or less. read more

Fabulous views. Fabulous food. Fabulous service. Everything about the Captain Kidd is utterly delightful. The views are breathtaking and eating on the water on the dock is so much fun! The food was absolutely scrumptious! I loved the pan seared scallops and risotto! I also got a delicious cup of Chef Franks homemade chowder! It was to DIE for! I enjoyed sharing my oyster crackers with the many ducklings off eel pond! Highly recommend! I will definitely be back! read more

Well, we were seated in a fairly empty dining room and no server came over to us. Not a glass of water, nothing. At the 20 minute mark my husband went up to sever station that was 6 feet away from our table to find out what was happening. After that, We wre told the bar was backed up, but drinks came in OK time frame once a server came. However we waited for our meals for another hour+. Tables that came after us had come and gone. Almost 2 hours beginning to end for a drink salad and entree. And the kicker was the swordfish entree was tasteless, and dense and dry. I never salt food at a restaurant but did so 2x for this dinner. A $38 entree. Really disappointed. And were not given a reason or apology for any of the wait times! read more

A really nice place right on the water. We were able to sit on the patio for lunch and we had a big group (9 people). Our server was really great and attentive. First time at The Captain Kidd. My wife and I for years have been meaning to come here. Trust me it's our go to. Greeted very warmly by the hostess and the waitress Meredith was very cordial and so easy to talk to. The food...I ordered a cheeseburger ( my go to) and my wife ordered a lobster roll. Well the cheeseburger was excellent the lobster roll was truly amazing the size. My wife and I give The Captain Kidd a 5 star. Truly glad we came! read more

A really solid place which deserves more credit than it gets. We were a very large group (9 people) and were able to get seated on the patio by walking in. A few of us ordered the cod tacos, which you can have either broiled or fried. I ordered the broiled ones, the tortilla was a bit dry but the dish was otherwise tasty. The fries they came with were phenomenal. For a $3 charge, you can order a sizeable side of salad. Special shout-out to our server, Meredith D who was very attentive and kind, and made sure all of our orders were correct (we had a lot of modifications). read more

Scratch you seafood itch here. My wife and I eat all over Woods Hole during our annual summer vacation in town, and I especially look forward to The Captain Kidd. Everything tastes fresh and delicious. A classic Cape Cod seafood menu done right. The lobster roll is huge and tasty, while the swordfish was cooked perfectly. Not pictured: A thick clam chowder that tastes homemade and remains my favorite in town. Definitely recommended. Went there this evening. Location is wonderful, downtown Woods Hole with a view of eel pond. Hoping our dinner was an outlier though. The waiter was decidedly unpleasant when my severely dyslexic wife asked an (admittedly silly) question because she misread the menu. Scallops were small (20/30 size and 5 on the plate) and the risotto tough. Hangar steak was very good though, as was the beer. Given the food quality and the treatment of my wife, I can't recommend this for a meal that was upstairs of $100. read more

Fish tacos and fish and chips were cooked very well and not greasy at all. Customer service was good and it had a great environment out on the water. The lobster bisque was nice and creamy and quite tasty. I would return again, although the food is a little expensive for what you get, but I expect that in a tourist town. read more

Food was very disppointing and overpriced for what you got. Halibut with coconut curry and mango salsa with asparagus ($41). Fish was chewy and old tasting with absolutely no coconut curry sauce. Had to ask server for sauce, She delivered a very small sald dressing cup which tasted more like caesar dressing than any curry. Asparagus was burned . Food was awful, service was average. Dining partner ordered fried shrimp which was very skimpy portion and he said was just ok, but wouldn't dine here again. Plenty of better restaurants in Falmouth. read more

Good seating outdoor. Dog friendly, however fisherman's platter $32 overpriced and smallest plate ever. Staff were helpful.

Cape Cod is such a beautiful place to visit, you want to enjoy the view wherever you can. One of those spot is called Captain Kidd, and is a quite nice size. The inside is large, with nice high ceiling and lots and lots of seating. The interior is heavy with woods, with big wooden fish swilling around near the ceiling. It has sort of fishing cabin feeling to it. But the best seats in the house is actually outside the house...their waterfront outdoor seating! This area is not as large as the inside, but it certainly comes with a beautiful view of the water, boats, and yes, nice breathe! We a few drinks, including Village Sangria, Harvard Cup, and Frozen Blackberry Margarita. The sangria didn't have any cut up pieces of fruits in it, which was a bit disappointing. But, the flavor itself on all the drinks were good. For food, we ordered two appetizers to share, Crispy Salt & Pepper Calamari and Crunchy Onion Rings. They were both good, addicting and disappeared quick, especially the calamari. For main, we ordered Fried Clam Plate, Simple Salad with Lobster Salad, Cape Cod Shore Dinner, Signature Lobster Roll, and Fisherman's Platter. The food was all very tasty, drinks were good, although not excellent. The price point is a bit high on seafood dishes, but that is common in most restaurants, especially if they are offering something really fresh. So, I would say the price was worth the quality of the food we received. The portion of the food was quite good too. The service was friendly, warm and attentive. The server took a good care of us. read more

Delightful snack at the bar before a boat ride to Martha's Vineyard. Bartender was friendly and attentive. Made a fantastic Bloody Mary. Had the beet hummus and spinach dip. As a Woods Hole landmark, the Captain Kidd has been a go-to in my family since my parents were teenagers in the '80s! While their menu has changed over the years, Chef Frank's classics remain the best! I recommend a cup of their homemade chowder, fresh fish sandwich, and the classic lobster roll! Stop in for drinks and apps on the water in the afternoon or a beautiful dinner at sunset under their awning--no matter what the weather (or global pandemic, rather) the Captain Kidd is ready to serve and satisfy your coastal appetite!
