The worst of just about everything. First our server, she was horrible! No personality, no urgency, no smile. I will add more to this later. Table set for 7 missing 3 napkin rolls with silverware. 5 -8 minutes and our server finally acknowledged us. Took drink and appetizer orders. Negroni was horrible! Bartending 101 know how to make a Negroni. Appetizers arrived with no small plates as we were sharing. I asked for plates twice. She delivered them with attitude. Dinner arrived about 30 minutes after the apps. Way to long with two kids and 5 adults. The encrusted salmon was horrible, the chicken tenders for the kids had no taste. The fish tacos were cold. Now back to why our server had zero personality, no sense of urgency and no smile. The tip was included and it was 20%. Note: when service is awesome regardless of the food I tip 25-30%. When it's bad like it was tonight I tip 10-15%. I will never go back to Captain Kid in Woods Hoke. Just as consistently delicious as when reviewed in past. We love and can't resist a sunny outside table with a view of the water. This is usually the last place we visit before heading home to NYC ....twice now we've stopped for lunch, decided last minute to bring chowder/lobster rolls back home to the family for dinner. Ambience: was great it overlooked the water is a very spacious atmosphere. It has like a old school feel with the wooden chairs and the wooden bar Service: was greeted Timely and seated properly it took a little while for the waitress to come over even though they were fully staffed it seemed like she may have bitten more than she could chew or they assigned her too many tables because the other waitresses were being laxidasical. So it wasn't for her for we were easily able to identify that she was working a lot of tables as to why we didn't get service as promptly as other areas. Food: food was pretty good I wouldn't recommend the lobster bisque for I was expecting being in this area to actually see chunks of Lobster in my lobster bisque but it was more broth than Lobster so I was a little bit disappointed for I was looking forward to some very fresh lobster bisque. The other options that we have tried was cheeseburgers and just American eats which you can't really go to wrong with that The only reason why I gave this place four stars is that where they set us it was blocking another table and the seat itself was just like a wooden log no cushion no back so sitting on something like that for an extended period of time trying to enjoy a meal is in my ideal of fine dining. And base were our table was sitting it appeared that the booth that we were blocking there were two couples that came and tried to sit there and they just couldn't take how congested that area was so they were receiving both times. A group of four of us from out of town stopped in at Capt'n Kidd for an early dinner, we arrived about 4:30 PM on a Thursday. The look and feel immediately made me feel like we made the right choice. We were immediately seated in a room off the end of the bar with a great view of the water. Our server took our drink order and we started looking over the menu. The ladies liked the hot cider (alcoholic) drinks and my Manhattan was acceptable. We ordered 4 apps for the table. Spinach dip, Reuben egg rolls, tuna tartare, and crab cakes. We also got soup, a mix of NE Clam Chowder and Lobster Bisque. All were very good but the standout was the Tuna tartare which was fantastic. For entrees we had scallops, kale salad (large and small) and a k.c. cheeseburger (recommended by our server). Now I would not normally order a burger at a seafood joint, but when she recommended it... The burger was one of the best cooked burgers I have ever had, perfect sear, fully cooked, and very juicy. I was glad for that choice. The scallops were very good as well and one of the kale salads had shrimp added. Everyone was very happy. I suppose I don't have to say it, but Capt'n Kidds will be a top choice for dinner the next time we are in Woods Hole. read more

What'a trip to Woods Hole without a dinner at the Kidd? Not much, so we did it yet again. Very quiet night, Cool and damp, and midweek done that before. But this year much more quiet, Most of the other restaurants are no longer open full time, fewer than before Covid which was hard on my hometown downtown eateries also. So not a surprise. He had one of our traditional dinners here, the mussels. As good as ever. Most of the rest were fried options and thought I used to love most of them, I really an not supposed to anymore. So the mussels were a nice thing to have. And the tasty garlic toast. My husband had a beer and I had the Fruit Runner Cocktail. We shared a dessert and happy to do so. We will always return to the Kidd, unless they change it dramatically. There was a nice fire in the center and still the gorgeous view of Eel Pond out the window. At the moment my wine glass is empty and my water is on the way. I've been working at different restaurants the last few weeks. Some places I had food and drinks. Other places just drinks. So far this is the only place where the waitress didn't even check to see if I wanted anything else. It's crazy too because I came here for the final Celtics game a week or so ago and the bar was packed but my glass never went empty. The bartender checked in. Grandma, parents and three kids 13 and under went at 4:30 pm on a Wednesday. Not many diners at that time v When paying, I saw a 'gratuity' of almost $25, more than 15% of the bill. Apparently it's charged to parties of 6 or more. Food was good, service was great and it was nice to sit on Eel Pond. The Kidd has been a reliable restaurant in Woods Hole and I eaten there for decades. The gratuity, and then a good tip made for an expensive experience. Almost 2 hours beginning to end for a drink salad and entree. And the kicker was the swordfish entree was tasteless, and dense and dry. Food was very disppointing and overpriced for what you got. Halibut with coconut curry and mango salsa with asparagus ($41). Fish was chewy and old tasting with absolutely no coconut curry sauce. The waiter was decidedly unpleasant when my severely dyslexic wife asked an (admittedly silly) question because she misread the menu. Scallops were small (20/30 size and 5 on the plate) and the risotto tough. Hangar steak was very good though, as was the beer. Cape Cod is such a beautiful place to visit, you want to enjoy the view wherever you can. One of those spot is called Captain Kidd, and is a quite nice size. The inside is large, with nice high ceiling and lots and lots of seating. The interior is heavy with woods, with big wooden fish swilling around near the ceiling. It has sort of fishing cabin feeling to it. But the best seats in the house is actually outside the house...their waterfront outdoor seating! This area is not as large as the inside, but it certainly comes with a beautiful view of the water, boats, and yes, nice breathe! We a few drinks, including Village Sangria, Harvard Cup, and Frozen Blackberry Margarita. The sangria didn't have any cut up pieces of fruits in it, which was a bit disappointing. But, the flavor itself on all the drinks were good. For food, we ordered two appetizers to share, Crispy Salt & Pepper Calamari and Crunchy Onion Rings. They were both good, addicting and disappeared quick, especially the calamari. For main, we ordered Fried Clam Plate, Simple Salad with Lobster Salad, Cape Cod Shore Dinner, Signature Lobster Roll, and Fisherman's Platter. The food was all very tasty, drinks were good, although not excellent. The price point is a bit high on seafood dishes, but that is common in most restaurants, especially if they are offering something really fresh. So, I would say the price was worth the quality of the food we received. The portion of the food was quite good too. The service was friendly, warm and attentive. I'm a Coastie who was stationed years ago in Woods Hole and came back to reminisce and grab a drink and lunch while here. My wife and I ate a delicious lunch here with a Spectacular view! waitstaff were so friendly and we even met the owner and discussed the gorgeous 40' Mahogany bar made in NY many years ago. The Bloody Mary was on point and the salty rim had some old Bay and paprika in it....so delicious! My wife had a terrific Winter Sangria with hints of vanilla and apple! She loved it. I got the kale salad and lobster salad, both fantastic.
