GREAT local place that is definitely a dive bar with character. Was here for the weekend and we had a blast. Met a couple locals who kept us entertained the whole night. Dave the bartender is great!!! Early on sunday night there was a bluesy-funky bank playing. Some of the best homegrown music I have heard in a while! Dont be intimidated by the dirt parking lot and lack of windows in this place.. Its a blast and a welcome change from the typical stuffy overpriced bars you find in tourist towns!!! read more

On our stay out at the Cape, we drove by Grumpy's Pub a couple of times. I am a fan of dive bars - the divier the better much to hubby's chagrin. We were heading back to our B&B and I said to hubby that I would buy him a drink if we could stop. Not a man to turn down a drink, we popped in on a Saturday afternoon. Not a whole lot of people day drinking so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Every square inch of the bar - walls, ceiling, inside, outside - was covered with local vintage signs. Very cool! Bartender was chill and I asked him to make me a drink - he did a rum punch which was boozy, just enough sweet and a great sipping drink. We played some darts, watched a couple who were very dressed up saunter into the bar, ordered another drink, watched a guy fall asleep at one of the tables, played some pool, called it a day. I don't want to be a regular but it was a fun way to spend the afternoon. read more

Grumpy's is the consummate Falmouth dive bar. Kinda reminds me of the old Ranch House which was in Marshfield. Old video games and pool tables and lots of signs and stuff to look at all over. If ask for a soda, no free refills. (Lots stars for that) Marty at the door was very cool, the bar staff couldn't care less. Definitely a place to mingle with the locals. Recently they have done some improvements on the bar itself. There is now an air hockey table along with the two pool tables and dart boards. A new Juke Box as well, though it will blind you if you look at it in the dark. Very flashy. Some new bars and bar stools have popped out throughout the bar. Last I was there they had tape up and I heard rumor of some nice booths moving in... Unfortunately the burrito bus is no more, so no food here unless you bring it yourself. Sunday afternoons there is a jam session and people occasionally bring their dogs, at least in the summer. Was here on July 30th. It was my first day in Falmouth, a place I have never visited before. It was also my first long weekend:vacation in forever. There were 2 bartenders - a man and a woman. The man bartender was great. The woman, however, was incredibly rude. She ignored me the entire time. When I finally asked her if I could order some wine, she rolled her eyes at me and didn't say a word so I politely asked her again and she made me so uncomfortable. She acted like I had asked her to loan me 100K. I still tipped 20% because I suspected her and the other bartender pooled tips, but honestly she did not deserve 1 penny. If your job is to pour drinks for patrons, do it with kindness, especially if you work for tips. I am in sales and I would be gassing every single patron up and making them feel good, not like a bother if I was working for tips. I've always loved Grumpy's. Always. I've had a lot of good times here over the years hanging with the locals and generally speaking being debaucherous. Since the last time I was here they have taken out the wood stove and put in really nice booths. I mean REALLY nice booths. In that section of the world, there are very few places I can say that I truly have always had fun when I arrive. That section of the world can be...how do I say it?...snotty. Grumpy's has just the right amount of light, and they have porches outside that you can bring your beer out to when you smoke your cigarette. Music your thing? Aside from having bands during the weekends, I happened on Sunday to stumble into a jam. If you play instruments or sing and are a nice person they let you on stage with them. You'd never know by driving by the rat-a-tat old sign and looking down the pocked, gravel drive that Grumpy's Pub is a diamond in the rough. This is a bar for locals, for people trying to escape the touristy throngs hitting up the fancy Roo Bar and Firefly in Falmouth center. If you didn't know someone who vouched for it, you may not even want to venture in. Well, here I am vouching for it. On any given Friday or Saturday evening, you'll find a great undiscovered band playing with heart to a small, swaying crowd. The cover charge is rarely more than $5, and I've never seen a band that wasn't worth it. They play rock, blues, Zydeco and everything in between. If you don't feel like watching the band, you can always play pool, darts, Big Buck Hunter, Megatouch, and other dive-barish games. If I have one criticism, it is that when the late-night drunken munchies hit, there's no food in sight. But no one minds if you bring your own. The best part about hanging out at Grumpy's, though, is the crowd. There is always someone wanting to chat over a cigarette, strike up a conversation about their life in the coast guard, or teach you about their latest discovery at Wood's Hole. I love the fact that Grumpy's is in the "Dive Bar" category. I would say it has character. The place is an institution. The landscape for bars and restaurants on the Cape can change pretty quickly but Grumpy's had endured ... i went to them back in 1993 for the first time and they are still here. It is a small place but dont let it fool you - they carry good beers. This place is not a tourist trap by any means but a low key local pub. Came here on a Friday night after arriving in Cape Cod for our vacation. We had a great time at this little local bar. Loved sitting in the booths with the nautical decor strung about and the old world kerosene looking lamps on the tables. The live music was great and a really nice touch to this place. The bartenders were awesome and made really delicious yet strong drinks, definitely left feeling pretty drunk! Really charming, old, little bar with lots of character and plenty of fun to be had. I love the rustic and authentic maritime decor and theme here. Definitely had the "iconic" Cape Cod vibe I was looking for! Not a bad way to spend a night in this area, people seemed really relaxed; it was a nice place to have a good time. Had a memorable and enjoyable night here. We saw this place in the daylight and thought it was an old abandoned building but wanted to hear the band on Saturday night so we went back. The owner hasn't spent a dime on interior, exterior or parking lot improvements in many, many years. However, we were pleasantly surprised. Worst experience at a bar that I have ever had. Went for St. Patrick's Day early in the evening and planning to stay for a long while. The male bartender was rude, took my credit card, started my tab and gave me drinks. A beer later I return to get more to find that he's lost my credit card! Not only was he not apologetic or even sorry about it, he kicked me out (not even asking me to pay any other way). I had a couple of witnesses who saw that I gave him my credit card for the tab but he still insisted on kicking me out. I asked if I could leave my number and name for when my card shows up and he refused, eventually a female waitress took my information. I called back a day later and they had my card-- Looked like someone had tried to bend it so I can only assume that the bartender tried to destroy it after it was found? Don't mind the massively pitted parking lot. How many bars are actually considered "dog friendly?" I think I saw a water dish by the back door. Good live music, patrons dedicated to raising money for local charities, 2 pool tables. It's the pool tables that drew me in. No food, so bring in your own, lots of food sharing goes on there. I'm going to pretty much agree with everything Julie.C wrote in her review below. Comared to the handful of tourist traps this place is a real treat of a drinking hole. I found it pretty hard to believe that there wasn't one decent pub on the main strip. Therefore, this is the place to head if you want to have a good pint, game of pool or two and chat with the locals. Turn left at the end of the gravel path on Locust Street and don't be put off that it's a little walk out of the way. read more

This place is great! I've been coming to Falmouth for 17 years and this is the first I've ever been to Grumpys and can't wait to go back next year! We went on a Friday night and it was a live band. They were a great blues band that I'd love to see again. The bar tender was nice, quick and made a good strong drink . He was a funny guy as well and made small talk . Don't go here if you're from out of town because they won't serve you. Even if your way over 21 it doesn't matter because outside of Massachusetts your license doesn't matter. This place has a lot going for it. Good jukebox, pool tables, darts, funky patio area where you can light up a smoke with your beer if you want. I went there on a saturday night and it was fairly busy. Yelp says this is a "dive bar" but it didnt seem that divey to me. This has become one of my favorite dive bars on the Cape. It's a big space with some cool industrial design touches and booths to lounge in. You've got your darts, jukebox, pool and Big Buck Hunter. Sometimes they host bands and it's good because again there is plenty of room to stretch out. Highly recommended if you are a dive bar hunter. The dive vibe is strong and good. read more
