From this vantage point I could see the entire upstairs dining area. Candles and roses are on every table and the decor is eclectic yet romantic - a love theme. Annie's shepherds pie (a special on my first visit) and a side of broccoli hit the spot. A few nights later I tried a more basic fish and chips, plus a pear, green bean, and shallot salad. The fish was flakey and battered perfectly - not the sloppy pub stuff you find elsewhere. The salad was refreshing. Finally, I've also enjoyed the halloumi burger. It's thick and well-executed. Substitute sweet potato fries or a vegetable for the chips if you want something a little more nutritious. Despite arriving just before closing time on most of my visits, the staff is always helpful and enthusiastic. Even on cool nights, the heat from the kitchen warms the upstairs, so be ready to de-layer if you're dressed for the cold. It's cozy! The love theme extends to your post-meal survey card, which reminds me of Valentine's cards kids give out in school. Maybe the love theme explains why I fell in love with Annie's.

Menu changes often and they do amazing specials to share from 2 ppl (steak pie) to 5/6ppl (slow roast lamb with potatoes). Prices for me was very reasonable as well. Good to note though, that they don't take bookings even for large parties but you could always have a drink in the pub while you wait. As you enter you see the grand courtyard and palms greeting you and transporting you to a new place in time and location. You feel like you have travelled to a new country and ready to start your holiday and culinary journey awaits. A great feel and the open area is even more impressive if you walk up the staircase and view from the mezzanine level with the live pianist and comfortable seating area. As you enter the winter garden you are immediately greeted and we were seated not to long after even though we were early. Menus provided and explained in detail but luckily i also enquired before hand about vegetarian options so was aware this was an option. However when the menu was explained we were again asked about any dietary requirements and given options of no meat, no gelatine and no alcohol but i have a feeling that many other options available and very impressed by this. You are first served with your selection of tea and you can order other drinks if you wish you just maybe charged. Anytime you wish your tea is served to you and refreshed as you need. Staff always attentive and you are never kept waiting too long. Always smiling and friendly. Soon after the sandwich selection arrives without the crust and each one is explained. If you finish your selection more are immediately offered and served up. All great tasting with fresh ingredients and not overpowering, cucumber sandwich was fresh and especially also liked the pepper and cream cheese. After you have completed your sandwiches your scones are served followed by your dessert selection and again you are offered more scones should you wish and at every stage tea is topped up as needed. Scones again home made and fluffy and you get to select two jams (we had strawberry and apricot) and you also get clotted cream but ample servings provided. I am not a scone person but still loved them. Lets see if you get space for dessert but amazing little selection provided and such great flavour and each looks like it was meticulously made. Maggie Jones's has a storied history. It opened in 1964 as Nan's Kitchen, but by the 1970s, it had become a favorite of Princess Margaret's. She and her husband Lord Snowdon would slip into the restaurant around 9:30pm, sit in a corner booth, and eat the chicken and artichoke pie. They renamed the restaurant Maggie Jones's as an homage to Princess Margaret (Maggie Jones was the name she used when we made a reservation). The restaurant was forced to closed in the summer of 2023, following an electric fire, but it reopened in November 2025. I don't know what it looked like before the fire, but the restaurant couldn't be more charming now! The restaurant is filled with kitschy farmhouse decor and tchotchkes. It's beautiful. It felt like a nana's country kitchen in the best possible way. The service was also great. We had a reservation, were welcomed just as we entered, and then taken such good care of throughout our meal. But the food really blew me away, too. They offer a set menu, which we were - sadly - not hungry enough for. But there was so much on the menu to choose from - we struggled! I ordered Maggie's fish pie with a green salad on the side. My husband ordered their rabbit and mustard casserole. Before these incredible dishes (everything was great - down to the green salad), they also brought us bread with great butter and a crudités platter with a creamy herb dressing.
