I can't even tell you how much I love having this little shop in the neighborhood. I usually just get some fresh fudge, but one of my friends loves filling up a little bag of assorted candy when we visit together. The Candy Pushers is full of all the sweets you could want, along with other items like candied apples, shakes, and even truffles! They have a good assortment of gummy candies, as well as novelty items like keychains, trinkets, and innuendo-esque items (in chocolate form), if you know what I mean. Very cute store! I always appreciate a good small-business! We were able to try the different fudges with one of the owners, who was super personable and friendly. This place is so cute inside and the owners (a married LGBT couple) are so kind. They sell candy, jewelry the owners make, fudge the owners make, and art pieces hanging on the walls! Found this place on Yelp, my little bro has been trying to find some Scandinavian licorice and this was the only one that came up within a 15 mile radius. Once we arrived and got some candy and he dropped a piece on the floor and picked it up and ate it. He got reprimanded for it. :-) I also gave him a good scolding. Today I went in to purchase 4 Toxic Waste Slime Licker sour Rolling Liquid Candy's for my nieces when I got to the register the owner informed me there is a $10.00 minimum purchase requirement before you can purchase this Candy. I asked where are the signs . The owner replied she has been too busy to post them and said it took her 3 months to get the Candy in. Regardless of how long it took to get something in stock you cannot make rules as customers try to purchase a bottle of Candy for $9.52 a bottle. The store itself is tiny, with candy crammed in every crevice. Candy from the Old Days & Candy of today. There is even a train that runs on tracks in the air above your head. There was a food fest in Hillcrest that day, so the place was mobbed with people. It was difficult to move. I couldn't wait to get out of there. All I wanted was to get to the front counter to have a parking stub validated. Finally at the counter we noticed the Truffles & had to get something! Lol. The truffles were huge & looked really fresh & nicely made. So we picked out just a couple for each of us. Jess had a Tiramisu truffle, which she raved about. This is probably her favorite dessert & she loved how it had such a creamy center that tasted exactly like the dessert. She also got the Chocolate Caramel, which she didn't care for..as it just didn't make a good combination. Similarly, I had a Creme Brûlée truffle, which tasted fantastic. It had a smooth creamy center that tasted exactly like the dessert. The other one I got was Chocolate on Chocolate, which was rich & smooth, but it needed a contrasting chocolate flavor. I'd probably not get that again unless I was craving pure chocolate. The 4 truffles were packaged really cute, in a nice box with each chocolate nestled in wrappers. I found a business card underneath the chocolates, which I thought was nice, especially if you were gifting the small box. This would make a really nice gift for your child's grammar school teacher. Do they still do that sort of thing? I have no clue, but I can think of a dozen other ways this 4-piece chocolate box would be a nice gesture for someone special. Customer service was a little off, as we weren't greeted when we entered the front door. Also, another miss was when we were completing our transaction but I had not yet paid. As I handed her the money, the cashier began to have a conversation with another customer. This is a big pet peeve of mine. Make the next customer wait until you're done with me; they are not more important. In my opinion, the cashier could've said, "I'll be with you in a second, as I'm just finishing up this transaction. *wink". See how easy that is? That's the reason for my docking one star. However, I'll chalk up the pauses in customer service to the fact they were so insanely busy. I'll come back some time when it's not so busy & maybe I'll be able to add that one extra star. read more

I've been wanting an assortment of sour gummies lately, but all the pick-a-mix places in the malls nearby have closed. So I was super excited to find this place on Yelp! Parking is a real pain here, but it's worth it for the selection. They have so many options! Including vegan, sugar free, chocolate, sweet gummies, sour gummies, salted licorice, jelly beans, and more. The only one of my favorites I couldn't find were the grapefruit slice gummies. But I'll survive. Candy from the bins is $20/pound, which is higher than the grocery store, but actually not as high as I was expecting. They ask you to use hand sanitizer before you start scooping, which is good to see. And the woman who owns the shop is very nice. I live a couple blocks away and love this place. They have a HUGE selection of candy and it's one of only places that carry my favorite candy, Chocolate Rocks. They look like legit river stones/pebbles but are chocolate with a shell. Kind of like a prettier M&M but higher quality chocolate and a bit Kit Kat-esque. Met the owner at the bank and my daughter LOVED her cool rainbow skirt! We got to chatting a bit and my 5 year old who was making her first deposit decided to spend her remaining two allowance dollars at the candy shop. I've been to Hillcrest a million times and didn't l know it was there but it's such an adorable little shop. They have such an amazing Covid-19 safety protocol while still keeping candy selecting fun! This isn't a new bussiness but they are the new owners so please show this sweet little woman owned business some LOVE. They made it through last year without PPP or SBA funds. Unfortunately they acquired the business just before the mandatory shutdowns so they were not eligible for any aid :( I'm a small bussiness owner and it hurt my heart to hear that. Last year was hard and scary but especially hard on a little businesses just like this. We stumbled across this candy store when my wife saw a sign that said "fresh Fudge". Seeing that i needed a fix, we decided to walk in. This place had all the candies that the bigger chain stores had and several that i used to get as a younger child. I'm a 51 year old child now, but the memory still remains. The scent of fresh fudge in the house drew me over to the glass display, where we were given samples of their own creation called "Fudge Packer". Dont let the name fool you, this is to die for. Imagine a Snickers Bar but so much better, and BAM......you are hooked. So, we decided to get a half pound. BUT.....it wasnt enough. We came back the next week and got 1-1/2 pounds just to make sure we had enough, just for the week. Shannon and Melissa are awesome ladies. VERY friendly and theyre very welcoming. The Candy Depot opened up its doors in 1994. The concept is simple. Come in and create the bag. There are over 500 varieties of candies that brought me back to my childhood. There were bins of candy everywhere. I wanted to have some fudge but the girl said she was all out. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have seen candy stores like this in old town but this place is nice because it's closer to home. I had breakfast across the street at Snooze and parked in the parking garage. It cost two dollars that I thought was a little ridiculous but we didn't want to street park. ~~~~~~~~~ THE TIRAMISU ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The truffle had a milk chocolate a thick milk chocolate shell on the outside but when I took the first bite I felt like I was having a cup of coffee with the shot of espresso. I am not sure if the espresso is flavored or not but either way marks this one a winner. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE CHOCOLATE CARAMEL ~~~~~~~ This milk chocolate shell on the outside had a nice bit but when chocolate and caramel are mixed together wasn't the best combo. Went in yesterday with one of my best friends. We went in and started looking around. Somebody that works there has asked if we have ever been there. We said no. She explained there is a sanitation station at the front of the store and asked us to use it. We said fine, It's no problem. We sanitized and started looking around again. A couple walked in behind us and started looking around. The worker asked, hey, have you been here before, then she realized she knew them. NEVER ASKED THEN TO SANITIZE. My friend and I realized it immediately. We are still looking around and another lady that works there walks up to us and puts her hands on my friends shoulders and asks her if she has sanitized, mind you this worker has no mask on and she physically touched my fried. We decided to leave. Nobody even thanked us for coming in or said, see you next time. How dare you ask us to sanitize twice then put your hands on my friend and have no mask on, but your friends were walking around the store having a good ole time, touching everything and they were not asked to sanitize.
