Such a great old fashioned addition to the classic Ocean Beach strip! Small and nostalgic and includes a wall of decorated dog cookies(fits the theme of the area) The Jelly Belly wall and taffy bins really makes all the difference. Really cool store on Newport Ave in OB. The guy that was working there was great at explaining all the different types of chocolates that they had. He made good recommendations and even played the song "Candy shop" by 50 cent as I requested. Isn't that awesome! I've been to almost all the Candy shops in San Diego and the chocolate here is very reasonably priced for being handmade/dipped. I got a ton of taffy for like 8 bucks. New favorite shop. read more

Came in today in celebration after treating ourselves and our pups to the dog beach and to Hodad's next door which I do recommend. This trip started great but unfortunately will not be supporting this business again. We spent over $45 in candy and when we got to the counter to pay my brother walks over to read off the label exactly the items that we wanted. He read the labels clearly and walked back to wait for her to finish ringing us up. She walked over got the items we asked for but upon walking out to car after paying we realized she didn't ask to confirm or check and gave us a white chocolate covered pretzel with sprinkles and my brother clearly asked for the plain one as he read it off the label exactly. He is an autistic adult who has texture problems and cannot eat certain textures on other textures. So he tried to go in to tell her it wasn't correct she told him no refunds we would have to pay for the other item. He came out in distress. I walk in to see what the issue was when it wasn't our fault the wrong item was placed into the bag. She proceeded to tell me and point to the sign no refunds. That's fine I'm not asking for a refund I was asking to be handed the correct item in which we asked for. She said no refunds and told me she would get into trouble. I didn't want a refund and a customer shouldn't have to suffer and pay for an item they didn't receive which now cannot be eaten and is going in the trash. And this establishment has lost my business from here on out. Our trips to the dog beach will no longer include a stop here. Because you don't make things right when it was your fault the wrong item was bagged, you tell me I now have to cover the cost of the new correct item when it wasn't my fault we got the incorrect one to begin with , and keep saying no refunds when I'm just asking for the item to be the right item. Thank you for ending our day that way. Sad. Also not greets upon entry, young lady who this whole thing happened with had AirPods in and wasn't able to either hear us correctly... who knows. read more

This is always a must go when I'm over in ocean beach and you can see from my pic as to why. The chocolate covered Oreos come with multiple designs I also got a couple with iridescent daisies but this one with the face cracks me up. I love the selection of dog treats and human treats. Always fresh and fun such nostalgia when I see things like chocolate covered honey comb in the dessert box! If you are visiting San Diego and are in ocean beach I highly suggest visiting beach sweets. Today I had a horrible experience at your store. My son and I went to buy a chickOstick and a dark chorale covered Oreo. The COS is 2.50 and the Oreo is 1.85. I paid in cash and got changed 4.73. That is almost a .50 cent difference. Your cashier weighed the OREO and refused to honor the difference or take the cookie back which I had yet to take off the counter. He was incredibly INCREDIBLY rude and insisted I was in the wrong. My house is 2 blocks from your store. I have been there many times with my son and his friends. I wandered onto Beach Sweets as I was strolling down to the boardwalk, and because chocolate is life, I had to stop in. The front door is solid wood, and without real door handles. It almost feels like one is intruding on someone. Don't despair, break on through, as yumminess awaits! This intimate sweet shop is quaint and welcoming. The shelves are filled with some nostalgic candy like pop rocks, gum cigarettes etc. The glass counter is filled with yummy chocolates. You'll want one of each. I loved the choices, and the uniqueness of each chocolate. Chocolate covered butter butter cookies?! Yes, please! Chocolate covered caramels with added spice? Yes!! Honeycomb chocolate... yes, heaven can be found here. There is plenty to select from, and buying one piece or more is perfectly acceptable. You're not made to feel like you need to buy mass quantities. The customer service is great. They are pleasant, and happy to answer questions, and even make suggestions. This is my favorite little splurge spot in OB. For YEARS I've come here for one thing and one thing only!!!... The dark chocolate covered Oreos!!! I like to get two (they're big)...one to eat right then and there and the other to put in the fridge or freezer...YUM!! This last time that I went, I also got a chocolate covered Nutter Butter which was pretty good (Oreo was still waay better). I asked the man working what he would suggest...and he pointed to a peanut butter rice crispy block! They just cut you a piece and sell it by weight...a small piece was about $2.50 but IT WAS WORTH IT. It wasn't really like a rice crispy treat, it was more like gooey light peanut butter whipped fudge that had a little rice crispys in it. It was so good. So from now on when I go there, it's the dark chocolate covered Oreo and that PB crispy thing for sure!!! I got a total of 3 CD Oreos, 1 CD Nutter Butter and that PB crispy thing and it was just under $14...not cheap, but not super expensive either. Many years ago they told me that they didn't make them there and that they actually didn't make any of the chocolate, but this last visit, the man working said that they do make it in house. If that's true than its a major plus for me, but either way I'd still come back! Located on Santa Monica Ave in the heart of OB!! Parking isn't too bad during the fall/winter months. I walk so it's never been an issue for me. There is a small parking lot next door but I'm not sure if it's for them or a neighboring business. Price range $3-7 each. We're coming back to buy our dog a Johnnie Dog Walker treat when he turns three (21 in dog years). Good assortment of human chocolates, novelty candies, fudge... Some made at the store and some not. Not the cheapest place to buy candy, but not at all unreasonable given the beach location. This shop is small but clean and has a large selection of bulk candy mix-n-match for one price (per weight) and also truffles and chocolate delights similarly priced per weight. The employee who helped us was polite and professional and the candy I bought was fresh and tasty, as were the chocolates. Only downside was the chocolate covered rice krispie treats were not home-made rice krispie treats, they were Kellog's store bought pre-packaged treats. Boo. Decided to walk along Newport Avenue after watching the sunset at the cliffs. Their display is tempting and we just had to walk in! Of course, we had to walk out with a few treats. The owner was very nice and patient with our questions. She said they make many of the chocolates in house. It was difficult to choose, especially when you're a chocoholic. They have various truffles and other chocolate confections. They were about to close and the owner told us that the chocolate dipped jalapenos were half off so we decided to get two. It was very good. It was raw japaleno dipped in dark chocolate. The spicy flavor of japaleno definitely paired well with the semisweet dark chocolate! I love salt-chocolate combination so I got a pretzel stick dipped in dark chocolate with sea salt. LOVE IT!!!! The slatiness brings out the flavor of the chocolate even more and it certainly cuts down on the sweetness. My partner got a chocolate-dipped marshmallow. It looked good but I never got to try it. He also got a few pieces of salt water taffy, which he loves. Again, I didn't try any. Beach Sweets is certainly a destination to go to when you're in Ocean Beach. I disapprove of the previous review. The truffles and chocolates I've gotten there have been nothing short of delectable. Add to that the friendly, helpful service, the JellyBelly dispensers, and all the old nostalgic chocolates, and this place is a winner!!! I'd rather pay $1.30 for 1 super-rich, handmade truffle than go get a candy bar at Newport Farms down the block (though I love Newport Farms, but I use them for booze, not candy). AND, she's bringing in an Icee machine in the next week or so!!! Not only that, but the owner has helped multiple times to donate to raffles that we do at Ocean Beach Comedy for various charities, and has done it with a smile. Cute little candy shop on the main drag on Ocean beach. They have the usual jelly bellies, gummies and sour candies in bins and some delicious looking chocolates and fudge which I wanted to buy but the weather was too hot. We stumbled on this place on our way to watch the Laker Game (he gets a drink, I get some sweets). Apparently they have been there for 4 years. Stephanie helped us out, and she was very knowledgeable. On the left hand side of the store, they have a Sweet Factory type set up - containers where you can scoop your own stuff. On the right hand side, its more like Sees candy, chocolates in the case. PROS: Now I am a big fan of spicy chocolate. They have jalapino peppers dipped in chocolate, and chocolate spicy truffles. A pretty good variety. I had the salty chocolate truffle and the chocolate covered honeycomb; both were bomb. Fair prices. If you call the owner she will make custom sweets for you. Been coming here for years with my fiancé but will NEVER go back. Definitely feel like we are being scammed and buyers should be aware. Here's the story and a few other shocking facts that the staff told us! As I said before, I am engaged and my fiancé and I love supporting local OB businesses, so we chose Beach Sweets to make our party favors. They had a great idea of chocolate shaped sea shells and starfish in a small bag, filled with white sugar to resemble sand, my fiancé loved it and I got to admit it looked cool. The bags which were on display by the register had a ribbon and labels with the company name on them. Price for each bag was $3.50. We asked for a quote, and Kayla said she would get back to us after she talked to the owner. Fast forward a couple of days and my fiancé received an email saying they could make the 100 bags we need as shown in the shop but to my amazement the price per bag went up to $4.00 each. Can someone please explain how that works? I don't go to Costco all that often, but I'm pretty sure you get better deals when you buy in quantity. When we asked why we were being charged more we were told the labels and ink cost money...keep in mind the bags in the store had labels and ink on them. We did not want anything on the labels changed, we wanted to give our guests a great party favor while giving free advertising for a place we loved. That alone would have made the company money. Not a smart move Beach Sweets. Oh so very greedy of you! For the other shocking facts I mentioned earlier, they make pretty much nothing in house! Very disappointing! All they do in house is melt chocolate....and it's probably the cheapest chocolate they can buy. The truffles are all ordered from a different company. I'd imagine the same is true for their fudge. In closing, we had a good run. Unfortunately your greed lost you a customer, but we are going to use your idea! For a candy shop, this one is top notch. The woman that helped me was super friendly. I ventured in after dinner to take a look at the chocolate covered jalapeno, but then decided it might be a little too spicy for me that night. I asked for some suggestions and she showed and described a few. I ended up getting one chocolate covered bacon strip (because seriously, who can resist trying that?!), one chocolate with cayenne pepper, and one chocolate topped with crushed red pepper and sea salt. They were all delicious. There is so much to explore in this store. I very nearly bought the giant gummy bear for my daughter, but then smartened up and realized that I'd be the one eating it all....so I left without one :) This would be an excellent place to get unique host/hostess gifts or party favors. I had a classy 50th birthday to plan within about a weeks time. Beach Sweets saved the day with amazing party favors. It was tiffany themed and they made chocolate dipped Oreos in a perfectly matched tiffany blue. Handmade white ribbon and even made it sparkle like the actual tiffany ribbons. I LOVE CANDY. Sean Gecko R always makes fun of my sweet tooth. I pretty much eat meals so I can get to the dessert portion. Dessert after lunch, mid afternoon treat, dessert after dinner, the after dessert candy.... This place has it all, gummy bears, CHOCOLATE covered gummy bears, mini jawbreakers, jelly beans, old school candy, chowards violet scented candy, truffles, chocolate covered jalapenos, chips, bacon..... I love the decor, the cute painting on the side of the building everything..i would give it 5 stars.... BUT...they're missing drinks, and caramel apples. I love caramel apples! I wish they had them. And when I was walking out I saw a girl drinking a slush puppie. I LOVE slush puppies...If they could add a sweet drink, and caramel apples, I would never leave this place! Was walking around OB after enjoying a beautiful sunset at the cliffs. Came in due to the smell of fresh chocolate and ended buying a bunch of different things! The lady was very nice that help us out and was very patience while we were still browsing about decided what to get. She tells us that the Chocolate Dipped Jalapeños were half off so i ended up buying the last two. My partner loves Salty chocolate so ended up getting him a Salted Pretzel stick with dark chocolate and sea salt. And a chocolate cover marshmallow and about 10 pieces of Salt water taffy. Jalapeños: Very Good. it uses a Raw Jalapeños dipped in dark chocolate. A little kick of spice as would any jalapeños give you, but also very fresh and crispy! Pretzel: Pretty good. I am not a fan of hard pretzels so i cant really comment if it was that good or not. pretty salty for my taste. Marshmallow: very good, taste pretty good. Has a thin layer of chocolate and the marshmallow is pretty big Salt water taffy: its ok, Not much flavor in each of them but decent enough for San Diego. ITs always better to get Salt water taffy from where it came Santa Cruz (they have the best kind there) Other than that it was a nice little stop.
