Was in the area and wanted something sweet so we decided to come here. Purchased a slice of "the Evil one" (coconut cake), one everything brownie, and a raspberry truffle. - The cake was so good. Perfect texture/moisture and not overly sweet. Very comparable to the coconut cake at Susiecakes. If you like that one, you'll like this one as well. - I'm not a brownie fan at all but this one could change my mind. - As for the truffle, I probably wouldn't get it again but that's only because I prefer milk chocolate. Pretty small shop. There were four of us in there; it felt pretty crowded once another customer walked in. The worker was really nice and you could tell she liked her job. Yes, you will have to ask what the truffle flavors of the day are so if you're that averse to talking to people (like that other reviewer) then just stick to the grocery store so you can read a label. read more

This is a tiny store that might sell out quickly. We got the champagne truffle and the brownie. 4 of us tried the brownie. It's a fudge texture and we thought it might have toffee and walnuts inside. A chocolate ganache topped it off. It got mixed reviews. It was described as "more candy than brownie" & very rich. Personally I didn't care for it. It was chewy, deep chocolate but underwhelmed. My cousin and I tried the truffle. The chocolate is a high cacao type that felt a little chalky. Think ghiradelli v a buttery Belgium. Nothing was marked to describe the truffles. What a chocolate lover haven! We are new to the neighborhood and were craving something sweet and saw this place and decided to try it out. First off what lovely customer service. Jennifer, the owner was there, as was Amanda. Both walked us through everything, explained what everything tasted like (a fourth generation truffle recipe!? Yes please!), and gave their recommendations based on what we liked. We got a few things: a cheesecake slice, a cookie, truffles, caramel, blueberry buckle, and a scone. First of all if you're a fan of dark and decadent chocolate you NEED to try these truffles. Honestly melt on your mouth. And the cheesecake was also a dark chocolate lover's dream. Rich, creamy. It was called the Peanut Butter Perfect Storm. The peanut butter throughout was delicious. My personal favorites were the scone and the blueberry buckle - both perfect for breakfast (if they can last that long! We almost ate everything on the drive back!). My husband's favorite was the caramel! We got the milk chocolate one with salt on it. Fantastic! They apparently do cakes too. So honestly this is a great place to stop and get a fancy gift for someone (a box of truffles!) or bring a yummy cake or dessert to a gathering. There was a lot for parking but also plenty of street. This unassuming spot houses some of the most delicious truffles and treats I've ever had!!! The owner Jen greeted us and was churning out the truffles! She was so nice as was the other gal working the register and front. They have truffles, cookies, cakes, oh my! I grabbed a few of the non liqueur truffles, a brownie and salted dark chocolate caramels. The caramels are hefty! I stopped in twice while we were there and bought a bunch of the caramels to bring home and share with family who LOVED them as well. Jennifer is nothing short of a Chocolate Artist. For real. She completely understands how to balance her confections without being overly sweet, which ruins desserts in my opinion and is a totally gauche American way to tune desserts. Go to Europe and you will quickly understand the art of the dessert. Jennifer's recipes and techniques create a totally BALANCED result. Not only that, but she understands texture and her chocolate is consistent and creamy. Not sticky or gummy whatsoever. We tried the OMG Ganache "cake", which is basically a slice of truffle filling. Decadent, divine, and naughty. Full tilt chocolate opulence. Then we tried the brownie and I opted for an edge piece to reap the reward of slight carmelization on that edge. Mind. Blown. The best brownie experience ive had the pleasure to behold. I couldnt stop. The final piece was a Jameson Truffle. As if the chocolate wasnt naughty enough, she added the ire of a leprechaun inside. Again, the balance of spirit, ganache and cacao was sublime. A true artisan at hand here. Do not expect a grand salon with chic Paris cafe tables and chairs. I bought 2 giant slices of the fabulously moist milk cake that is lavishly topped with REAL whipped cream frosting! Absolutely scrumptious!! We just happened to notice this gem on our way to lunch and my wife has a serious chocolate addiction. The place is taken up mostly by the open bakery where the owner is present working long days making French pastries the old fashioned way for 21 years. The display area is small and filled with many loyal customers. I really enjoyed listening to Jennifer explaining how she spent 3 years training in Paris to learn this lost art of chocolate making. Everything we tasted was spectacular. I don't have words to explain how the everything brownie melts in you mouth and lights up all your pleasure receptors in your brain. I stopped by The Elegant Truffle in Point Loma after seeing great reviews on Yelp, hoping to pick up some delicious desserts for my employees. While the shop had three cakes on display, I was expecting a wider variety of pastries, cakes, and other treats. Unfortunately, there weren't many options available, which was a bit disappointing. Each year just before Valentines Day is my birthday, so I make it into The Elegant Truffle for a few of my favorites; "The Evil One" luscious coconut cake with whipped cream and a few elegant truffles. This year, I did just that a few days ago. I walked in early on a Saturday and honestly the crew looked as though they had pitched a chocolate tent in the back as they were definitely working over-time to serve and deliver amazing chocolates for the upcoming holiday. This review is years late, as I have enjoyed this unique chocolatier haven for years ever since cruising around this most adorable Loma Portal many moons ago and was blown away. The first thing I ever had was the "Oh My God" cake and it was crazy good, still is. As I write this I am enjoying one of their cognac truffles and it is outstanding!! I thought to myself, I'll eat one half and the other half later....not happening! It will be devoured completely. I went there this weekend for a piece of angel food cake because I have had them before and they have the absolute best angel food cake I've ever had. Not to mention the evil one the coconut cake was also one of my favorites there I have never had a coconut cake that I keep craving. everything they have there is absolutely delicious. I don't live close by there, but I don't mind to drive there and I will go again and again and again The owner and her assistant are very nice people. I kept craving that slice of coconut cake. Good lawd! On a random cruise after lunch and drinks at HTP, we stumbled upon The Elegant Truffle...like, let's see what they got. I'm now thanking our lucky stars because the two items we got here were absolutely fantastic!!!! The shop is owned by two lovelies who make all of their delectable treats. One of the owners is a 4th generation toffee maker so sweet treats are in her sangre! After chatting with one of the lovely owners, we decided to try a brownie and a piece of carrot cake. I can't recall the name, but the brownie we selected had all kinds of bits and pieces inside, including some of their 4th generation toffee. The carrot cake also had fruit and nuts inside and I believe it was topped with a marshmallow cream cheese frosting. OH MY LORD!!! BOTH WERE ABSOLUTELY FIREEEEEEE!!! I honestly couldn't believe how good they were. As we indulged we were going back and forth about which was better. After every bite, an internal struggle ensued. The brownie is better...no wait...the carrot cake is definitely better...but wait this brownie is actually stupidly delicious. In the end, we both agreed that both the brownie and the carrot cake were the best we ever had. I mean literally, they were ridiculously delicious. I think the carrot cake was $12 and the brownie was about $6-7 but man, they were delicious. I can't wait to come back here for a repeat experience. First off, I highly recommend this business partially because they donated gift certificates for the SWYC annual auction to raise money for Elder Help of San Diego. Local businesses who give back are one of the best reasons to shop local. As others have stated, no prices listed, so make sure to ask if your budget isn't unlimited. It was $60 for the beautiful items in the attached picture. We ordered two truffles, two lemon ricotta cookies, dark chocolate caramel and milk chocolate caramel, PB perfect storm and the Carrot cake, I wasn't completely wowed by the truffles, but I was knocked out by the cookies. Sweet but tart, and the texture was perfectly balanced between soft and firm. The Carrot cake was indeed as wonderful as others have mentioned, and the PB Perfect Storm was rich and peanut buttery. The salted milk chocolate caramel was also one of my favorites. All in all, they have something for everyone. I wish I had tried the angel food cake. Guess we will have to go back again! read more

Tried their cake for the first time yesterday and it was delicious! The carrot cake and coconut cakes were moist and both had excellent frosting. And the chocolate cheesecake with peanut butter was super decadent....easily 2 people can share a slice of any of them, which makes the price a bit more worth it. Our guests loved all three. It's not cheap but I think between the quality and the fact that you can share them makes it worth it. They were very nice and explained to me the ingredients in each item and even gave me a small sample of 2 of the cakes. Definitely recommend. read more

This is my new favourite chocolate store. My old favourite chocolate did not survive 2020 and I have been on a quest for good chocolate. It turns out good chocolate is very difficult to find. Or maybe I'm just difficult to please. Probably a little of both. So far I have had a ginger truffle, a coffee truffle, and a dark chocolate truffle. All three of them made my heart sing and my toes curl. We also ordered a piece of OMG cake and a piece of carrot cake. The OMG cake is a chocolate bomb. But, astoundingly, it is not too heavy. It is decadent and lush and I wanted to eat the whole thing. I could have eaten the whole thing. I did not, because I love my husband and I wanted to let him share in the joy of it. The carrot cake was the same way. My favourite carrot cake I have ever had was in Solvang. This is the second best carrot cake I have ever had. It was PERFECT. They use Callebaut chocolate which is the best kind, in my opinion. We will definitely make it a point to stop here when we are in San Diego. read more

I first found out about The Elegant Truffle at one of the Taste of Point Loma events several years ago. They gave out a small plate with full size samples of their wares. I never forgot how good they were and always tried to drop by when in the area. I haven't been back since the whole pandemic started. Sad that they don't have a lot of items in store now, it seems that the bulk of their business is through orders. Used to be the display cases and fridges were full, now they are mostly empty. What they DO have are all wonderful tho, which is why the 5 stars. The quality of their truffles are still excellent. Truffles are $4 each, which I find kinda high, but totally worth it for the quality. They do not skip on the ingredients and you really taste the flavor they add to the rich chocolate. Like the Grand Marnier tastes of liquor, which gives a welcome sharpness. My husband and I can only share two truffles at a time as they're very rich, more than two feels like too much. I'm hoping they have the fruit truffles again in the summer, they were my absolute favorite from previous orders. The chocolate covered caramel was a revelation tho! I'm kicking myself for only getting one to try out. The caramel is the perfect chewiness, with a gorgeous mouth feel against the chocolate. Caramel is obviously very sweet but the milk chocolate tempers the sweetness, so it's not too much. Absolutely to die for and worth all the empty carbs and calories! The Mexican wedding cake cookies were also good, they just pale in comparison to the truffles and the caramel. Their computerized register was acting up when I was there, good thing I had cash to pay. It may be a good idea to have cash on hand just in case their POS (point of sale) is acting up again. read more

A gem of a place with chocolate and dessert galore. After being given a generous sample platter, we of course had to get a little bit of everything. Came in for the Evil One cake, came out with a handful of others. Loved the brownies, the lemon ricotta cookie, the carrot cake and the truffles. It was enough for our whole family to enjoy. So, this is the BEST German Chocolate Cake EVER. The cake competed against 4 other deserts after Christmas dinner and it was the only one demolished within minutes. The second pic is right before it was gone. I didn't even get a slice to take home. I can't begin to describe how moist and flavorful this cake was. Today I came here around the opening time to buy a slice of cake for my fiancé, and I learned that they open at noon instead of 11 (there was a sign posted on the door that this was due to labor shortage). When I entered the business once it was open, the owner was so apologetic, and wanted to make sure that I ordered first because she noticed how long I was waiting; this was so thoughtful of her even though I said I was not in a rush to get anywhere. Anyways, I came here to buy a slice of the OMG cake because I've been thinking about it ever since buying the full cake a few years ago. Two of my chocolate lover friends say it is the best chocolate cake they've ever had. I also noticed that they had scones near the check-out and I ended up buying a cranberry orange scone because I've been craving it for a few weeks now (my first time trying scone at this business). This is probably the best scone I've ever had in San Diego because so many others I've had (at highly rated bakeries too) are too dry, crumbly, or loaded with sugary icing. The scone at the Elegant Truffle was moist, flaky yet held together well, and I noticed that fresh cranberries and orange zest were used. It is very impressive that the owner is working 90 hours a week to run this business herself (she had mentioned it to me earlier), yet clearly not sacrificing in the quality of their products. Where do we start?!? Have had this little gem book marked for some time. Talked with the owner, Jennifer and she educated us on her store, baked goods and the chocolate. Like others had mentioned she gave us a "sampler" to try. The sampler was more like dessert in its self. Jennifer was insistent on the sample, with a sense of pride. Teenager loved the caramel, wife loved the carrot cake and I loved the chocolate... everything was sooo yummy though! Got home and noticed the packaging and it was a nice touch as well.
