Absolutely loved it! We met a friend for lunch Wednesday. Typical dark steakhouse decor done very nicely. The service was quick and friendly. Start with a salad and I think homemade dressing. It was very good! Glenda said it was the best chicken fry she's had in a while. Reesa said her medium rare filet was perfect. My hamburger steak was absolutely delicious. Looks like a middle of Texas "roadhouse" and has plenty of seating. The steak was cooked exactly as requested and the potato was a great. Loved it! We expected average, and we got super. Blackened chicken sandwich was more grilled than blackened (so not super spicy, just perfect) with delicious soft roll and accompaniments. There are very few restaurants in Snyder so we chose The Butcher Block. I couldn't believe how wonderful the staff is. Every single person was friendly and super helpful. We ended up eating there three evenings in a row and each time was the same. We were here for an event and the place was packed but the staff handled it beautifully. Thee food was good as well, lol. We stopped here on our way through Snyder. This place was amazing. The building was a little hidden but it was so worth the hunt! The fried mushrooms were delicious! The jalapeño poppers were yummy! Place was recommended by a client. Hostess was sweet~ seated at the bar, so we wouldn't take a whole table at peak dinner time(they had several large parties with multiple tables). The bartender knew we weren't drinking and was very distracted and took forever to take our order. Then food took awhile as well. I got a Shrimp Cobb and was slightly disappointed. It hardly had anything on it...tons of Romain 6 shrimp...very little egg avocado and bacon and a couple tiny dollops of Texas goat cheese... ordered Crème Brûlée-they didn't have any. Excellent mushroom appetizer. Catfish equal to Alabama catfish. That's from the husband. I had the Texas strawberry salad and it was outstanding (other than when I accidentally poured too much of the dressing on it...unless of course you like a lot of vinegar). For the appetizers we got there Texas Quail, was absolutely juicy. There fried pickle spears, they were super hot and good. Entrees spicy block burger was good, pe prepared for the spicy jalapeños very yummy. New York strip, juicy and filled with flavor. Sirloin was super good and tender. The salads are huge and will fill you up. Chicken Alfredo nice and creamy. Food Is so wonderful here! We started with an appetizer which there is so many to choose from! We had the Fried Green Tomatoes, friend perfectly! Taste was amazing! We both ordered the special of the day which was a Creamy Steak and Mushroom Pasta! It came with a side salad (this is my only complaint- it was just a spring mix and 2 slices of roma tomatoes, I would have liked to see a little more included like cucumbers and cheese, croutons also, especially because the salad dressings are made in house and they were great so I needed more salad to go with my dressing! The Pasta dish was amazing! Pasta was cooked perfectly and the steak was cooked to my preference which was medium! It definitely had to have a to go box because the portion was so big! In fact watching plates come out of kitchen not one of the dishes was anyone going home hungry! Portions is definitely worth the money! We sat at bar and had drinks before ordering and they were made with perfection! Bar Tender was super nice and asked a lot of questions to learn who we were! I ordered the 10oz sirloin steak medium rare and they brought it to the table with one side completely burned, cut the steak opened and it was over cooked for medium rare. Took a couple bites and it was way under seasoned so I asked for Tabasco sauce to give it flavor, ate about half of it and I couldn't get the taste of burnt meat out of my mouth until I brushed my teeth. Also my asparagus was burnt and the baked potato was more like a sad potato wrapped with foil. Only thing I enjoyed was the 2 beers I drank. Cheddars cooks better steaks than this place. You'd think the steak would be great for 24$ a steak. read more

A good steak is one seasoned and cooked just-so, as not to need steak sauce at the table...this was not that good. Baked potato wa just bland. Also, salad was just spring mix and tomato. Two stars for great service. I had lemon pepper tilapia with vegetables and rice. About 3 cups of plain white rice with a cup of vegetables and a dry piece of fish. $23.95. Hubs had catfish and shrimp. He said the fish was good, the shrimp was pre-breaded and blah. He also had terrible coleslaw and good sweet potato fries. I had two, approximately 4-1/2 ounce glasses of wine. $9 per. Mediocre stuff to boot. Why do these people charge so much for wine that probably costs about $5.00 a bottle??? We had hopes that a dessert would redeem the meal. Coconut pie that came from a freezer. Whole meal fail. This place has potential. They need to put some love into the food- use fresh ingredients, make some fresh desserts. Give us some fresh bread and a salad. Let me know when that happens! read more

Completely unexpected and thoroughly surprised. We were headed from New Mexico to Austin, and decided to spend this night in the small town of Snyder, Texas. The Hampton inn hotel had a lot of construction workers staying there and coming and going, and one of them highly recommended this place. Service has been excellent, pricing is superb, delicious food, and the environment is very comfortable with numerous tVs around the walls to watch sports, A nice bar, excellent dining area, and even has pecan cobbler! My dad had the roast beef sandwich and he absolutely loved it. French fries and homemade chips were great. The beer was cold and reasonable. Our waiter only took our order and that's all she did. A pretty young lady at the bar ended up bringing our food, bringing our drinks, getting refills, and everything else we needed so she's the real MVP. Dessert was the fried brownie. I was in Snyder, TX for work meeting. Driving around it wasn't clear what the dining options other than fast food were. Our meeting host booked dinner for 12 at the Butcher's Block. It sounds definitely like a steakhouse, which not surprising for West Texas but very surprising from our host, who's a vegetarian! The restaurant looks like a very long, single-story building with no windows and barely any lighting. Upon entry, there's a huge bar on one end of the building, and private dining rooms along the length of the building. A cool, quirky floor plan and admittedly pretty good for business dinners and private parties. They also aired Monday Night Football. The menu offers lots of affordable options: steaks, burgers, salads, pasta, and salmon (though I'm not sure where its from!). Appetizers were mostly fried goodies (spicy shrimp, Texas Toothpicks), though one good item was the sourdough bread with sweet Texas honeycomb dip. My entree was a 12-oz ribeye with a baked potato for under $20. I had my steak cooked medium, and although it was well seasoned and pink inside, it was not the juiciest I've had (3 stars).
