As a kid, being in the Principal's office wasn't always a good thing, but having a burger called "The Principal's Office" from The Burger Bus is! Three patties, topped with pepperjack, guac and jalapeños definitely satisfied the cravings. The toppings were generous too! The Burger Bus does know how to make a fab burger. The fries, not so much. If you see this food truck bus definitely stop and try it out! During these weird times our apt has set up for food trucks to stop by and this came and was a treat! Ive been trying to eat less meat so happy they had a vegetarian option. Wish they had more because i almost fell off the wagon because the meat ones sounded delicious! The vegetarian option is the portobello burger called The Librarian It had grilled portobello mushrooms, tomato, onions, Swiss and a garlic crema. It was delicious. I didn't miss a beef patty at all. And very filling. My boyfriend got The Textbook Burger. That was a classic burger with bacon and cheese. He added pickles to his. He said it was so good he didn't put it down. I liked that they had a slider option. If you wanted to try more than one you could pick three and get a slider portion of the three. All the burgers except the sliders come with home fries. They called them tots on the menu but they are potato cubes. They were perfectly crispy. read more

Was a guest at a party with the Burger Bus. Great burger and fun! We all loved walking up to the truck to place our orders!

Two stars for the Tots, which were crispy and plentiful. The burger however is a joke for $10. Good bun, a leaf of lettuce, a slice of tomato and an overcooked hockey puck of a burger. Ordered the Freshman, no cheese, no onions, which also came with no condiments on the bun. I guess I needed to ask. A $1.50 costco hotdog has more flavor, they need to revisit what they are delivering or take a trip back to Santa Barbara to renew their mojo. First impression is a lasting impression and unfortunately it wasn't a good one. If the tater tots are better than the sliders well Houston we have a problem! If you're going to be serving food at an event with a high volume of customers then you should be well prepared and most importantly serving up good food so you have us wanting more. What I was served was unacceptable and very disappointing! But I was too hungry to go back and complain and didn't have the patience to wait. Sliders was the main feature here and I decided on two of each so I could share with my girlfriend. She ordered the Chipotle burger and Falafel to share. Mushroom slider - The bun was cold and hard while the meat was dry and bland. This was a total let down. The garlicky mushroom sauce was more like a cold pasty glue. Pulled Pork slider - This wasn't too bad but it would of been better served up warm! Flavors were decent but I think after a few drinks anything tastes good. Cold bun, cold meat no Bueno! Chipotle slider - The spicy sauce kind of saved this one but yet again how can you enjoy a cold dry burger. Falafel - Decent but nothing to rave about sorry! Tater Tots- The only thing served warm. Just your average tot but these hit the spot! I've been wanting to try the burger bus for awhile now and what I was left with was pure disappointment! Got off the train and headed to the Funk Zone. The day was cloudy, gray and wet but that wasn't stopping locals and visitors from enjoying the Burger Bus in the Funk Zone. This was my first food truck purchase and I was excited to give it a try. I ordered the Grilled Cheese Sandwich and it was very good. Not your typical grill cheese sandwich. This one had three different cheeses, tomatoes, pickles, cucumbers and grilled onions on Ciabatta bread. Great grill cheese sandwich with yummy flavor combinations. Overrated, it seemed like a good option because of the hype and the jelly but alas it was not. My best friend was right about it!. I had the chipotle burger, it had really interesting flavors. I would consider the flavor/heat to be a positive, this is a reason to try the Burger Bus. The meat is nothing to brag about, it's small and hides inside an overly large bun. Unique concept, good food! The Burger Bus was a lunchtime staple of mine when they were located in Santa Barbara, CA. They would set up shop in my business plaza's parking lot once per week - who could say no to a short yellow bus offering fresh burgers? Their burgers are as whimsical as their concept. I remember it being my first time trying a spicy jam on my burger. The sweet, spicy, and savory flavor combination was irresistible. When feeling adventurous, I'd opt for their 'Gonzo Burger' which wasn't even a menu item. Rather, it was an insider tip and the toppings would be at the discretion of the cook. The end result would typically be a very unique creation, but consistently tasty nonetheless. I was also a big fan of their fried pickles which had the perfect crisp. This food truck was very popular in my town. They unfortunately needed to relocate once the local city council had cracked down on laws regarding where they were allowed to serve. I hope that The Burger Bus is doing great in their new location and intend to pay a visit the next time I find myself in the area. read more

I don't even leave yelp reviews but this was the most insanely tasty burger i've maybe ever had - a must eat while in denver. i got the principles office and i regret nothing, portions are massive and you could split a burger and some tots and be good to go imo. be forewarned the tots are more like country potatoes and not the classic cylindrical tot but it was an amazing experience nonetheless read more

Was in Santa Barbara to meet some friends and ran across the Burger Bus. I had the regular burger with everything (fried onions, mustard, Ketchup and pickles). WOW! I haven't had a burger that tasted so good in years! The taste and texture are not for the carbophobes not for the fatophobes. They were exquisitely good. My husband, who really doesn't like hamburgers, took two bites (before I threatened him with physical violence) and wanted more. Fat chance. He said it tasted 'real' as in somewhere he had a burger in Atlanta. I just might go back for another one before heading home! Try it! They also have a 'Ban Mi' burger. Hooray for listening to feedback and making improvements! 1. Burger Bus now has its falafel in a sandwich. I haven't yet tried it, but I do know there was some grousing about the falafel being served in a paper bowl. 2. There's now a pesto burger. 3. Onion rings are now shaped more like rose petals, which make very fine scoops to dip into your condiments. And...less greasy in the bag. 4. Went there on Tuesday around 1:40 no line at all. I didn't want to try the standard cheeseburger so decided on the Cheeseburger & Jelly #1 which was pepperjack cheese olallieberry jalapeno jelly. Might sound odd to but it was delicious. The meat was juicy and cooked to perfection. The sweetness of the jelly was not overpowering the burger at all. Even though it only comes with grilled onions every ingredient in the burger complemented each other. I also order the fried pickle chips and fell in love. Be careful! I burned my tongue, it comes out piping hot, crisp, and oily. It took a little over 30 minutes for me to get my food when there was only one other person in front of me. read more

Wow- I had not idea that I would fall in love with the Burger Bus today! :) My boyfriend and I saw that they would be outside the Horny Toad sample sale today. Normally they are not open on Saturdays (except for special occasions or catering, etc), so we jumped at the chance to try out the Burger Bus together for the first time. My honey ordered the CBJ (Cheeseburger and jelly) with the spicy jalapeno jelly. I ordered the newer option which was a CBJ with sweet raspberry jam. :D Awesome, right? I mean, who would have thought of this? We also ordered onion rings (although they should be called slices) and fried pickles. The Burger Bus only accepts cash, so we hit up the ATM beforehand. I did feel a little crazy paying $7.50 for a cheeseburger, but my opinion changed once I got to sink my teeth into one of these warm, gooey burgers. Oh god. I enjoyed it so much. Even if you are full, there is no way you can leave any little nibble (small enough for a mouse) behind. My boyfriend's burger was, admittedly, spicy. But that's what you get with jalapeno jelly on your food!! We both liked the onion rings/slices. They are amazing right out of the bag, fresh and hot!! The fried pickles were...meh. I didn't like the thick coating of batter on it. Maybe pickle-lovers would enjoy it more. Anyways- please see the pics I posted. We WILL be back for more, Burger Bus! It's great to see that this business keeps everything local, and their meat is grass fed and hormone free. As a heads up, to enjoy what this place is all about be prepared to spend about $11 for the full experience. (A burger and one of their delectable sides). But it's great bang for the buck, you'll be STUFFED if you can finish it all. The CB&J is fantastically delicious and unique. While the burger itself is admittedly a little unwieldy, the combination of their chosen bread, meat, cheese, and jalapeño jelly is very special. Not like anything I've ever tried before. The Pickle Chips and Onion Rings were a little on the oily side, but there's a subtle hint of seasoning in the batter that make them curiously interesting and addicting. Because it's a mobile food experience, I'd recommend taking it home and pairing it with a nice cold beer. read more

I saw the Bus as I was driving down Cota St and noticed the long line it had. It obviously peaked my interest so I figured, "What the hell?" The calorie-intake of my choice was the Pesto burger with 2 patties (hey, I was hungry), with the sides of onion layers and fried pickles. The burger was cooked very well with the right amount of juice to keep it moist and flavorful. The only problem I had was the bun; it was a little too hard for my liking and made it tough to take a bite of the burger. Otherwise the burger itself was very delicious with the pesto bringing a nice flavor. The onion peels and fried pickles were very good while dipped with ranch dressing. When the meal is about done, you notice the amount of oil that has seeped into the paper bags that hold these delicious treats; only then do you realize that your cholesterol level has risen about 100% and you might be sick just thinking about it. But hey, I had no misgivings about what I was about to eat but just the sight of it left me a little uneasy. Overall, great burger and sides; just don't expect to feel very healthy when you get up from your seat. read more

We spotted a Big Yellow School Bus. Of course we automatically slowed down. Way down. When we noticed an incompatible array of surfers and hipsters lined up we went on immediate alert. Where was the late middle-aged paunchy lady crossing guard? Where were the flashing red slow-down-you-might-crush-a-child lights? In fact where were the children we were supposed to avoid crushing? There were intoxicating smells coming from the bus. No. Not diesel fumes fool. Meat smells. Hypnotizing grilled meat smells issuing from something that didn't resemble a catering truck. We quickly found street parking a block up. We ran back and added ourselves to the line. The line for what we were informed was the Burger Bus. Let me back up. Just a little. Last week before the rains hit, a friend had to drive up to Santa Barbara to meet with somebody. He asked if I wanted to come along for the ride. Hm. Not so sure. When he promised that what needed taking care of wouldn't take more than 90 minutes - 2 hours tops; when he said we'd have the rest of the day for eating and hanging out, I was definitely in. Great decision. It was a cool, clear midweek day, with no hint of the impending storm. Back to the Burger Bus: So it is a totally retro-fitted School Bus. It's not a catering truck like we're used to seeing here in LA. We chatted with people in line ahead of us. Many had already eaten at this Bus a couple times before. They were pretty happy to give recommendations. "Dude, you've got to add a side of fried pickle chips to whatever you order. They are AWESOME." was the recommendation of the surfer type. My friend thought it was pretty awesome to be called dude. He was still dressed for the meeting he'd just attended, and wasn't feeling entirely dudish. "Whatever you get," said a UCSB type girl, "you have absolutely got to make sure it comes with the ollieberry jalapeno jelly." I must've given her a clueless look because she went on to explain it was both hot & sweet, and she added the ever-present word AWESOME. In spite of their overt enthusiasm, I being ravenously hungry, was already mentally deducting stars for the long wait. So when we were up, I ordered a patty with grilled onions, pepper jack cheese, and the ollieberry jalapeno jelly, with a side of onion rings, that were not so much rings, as slices in crispy Telegraph Ale batter. The 'rings' were just incredible. Crisp & fragrant. The burger was generous & juicy. The ciabatta was a cut above a regular bun. It's baked locally. I was really glad the standing in line girl insisted I get the jalapeno jelly. It had just the right kick, and made the burger more unique. My friend got 2 main orders. It was too much for him to finish. He got the Falafel, which I've got to warn you is untraditional. It also came on ciabatta, not pita, and the sauce wasn't tahini or humus. It was something else entirely. He pronounced it very good despite it not being nearly what he expected. The falafel balls were crisp outside & just right inside. He also got a burger. His patty came with cheddar, grilled onions, & some other stuff, but he passed on the jalapeno thing. His eyes were bugging out happy. While I was casually dressed, he had to make sure none of it dripped on his take a meeting clothes. He got yam fries as his side. He was ecstatic with his choice. I tasted them and liked them, but I liked my onion rings way better. * * * * * So here's the deets: They seem to be pretty picky about the source of their ingredients, insisting on small and local. * The meat is from Shalhoob Meat Co. Insert all the Tony Shalhoob, Monk jokes here if you like. They claim it's grass fed and hormone free. * The ciabatta rolls are from Our Daily Bread in Santa Barbara. * The cheeses are from Spring Hill Cheese, a local artisanal cheese maker. One cheese is spiced. * The Berry Man, a local farmer, is their supplier of tomatos, lettuce, & onions. * The Rings & Chips are hand-cut. Here come some sample prices. I think they're certainly competitive with LA prices or better. Hamburger $6.75 Cheeseburger with Jalapeno Jam $7.50 Falafel $7.50 Yam Fries $2.50 Onion Rings $3.50 Fried Pickle Chips $3.50 They take only cash. I'm deducting one star because it took maybe 25-30 minutes to get our food. I think it's truly delicious and they do make it to order. But man, a half hour is a half hour. Especially when you're hungry, when a half hour is really 90 minutes. Keep in mind, I'm not advocating that you drive all the way to Santa Barbara for a burger. Unless you drive a Prius that is. Even when I'm on vacation I'm never too far away from street food. In fact, I'd say that when you're on the road, there's nothing better than road food. It just goes well together no matter what and besides that, it's in the name itself. While in Portland, it would be foolish not to see the street food carts. When in New York you should stop by a dirty water hot dog cart or you'll be a fool not to go to the big gay ice cream truck. And when you're in Santa Barbara, you need to look for the Burger Bus. The burger bus offers some really delicious burgers at a pretty good price for what you're getting. It's on the higher side of around $10 per burger, though you'll be getting a double patty burger for at most $9.50. Which if it doesn't fill you up, you probably shouldn't eat so much. In terms of food truck food, it's not like they do all that crazy in terms of styles. You won't see the stuff you're finding at places like Grill Em All or some sort of Kogi style korean burger. No, they do a Pesto burger and a falaffal burger, but you're here for the toppings more than anything else. On a side note, you should not turn down a chance at their Telegraph Beer Battered deep fried pickles. They are amazing. I mean, really really amazing. They sort of look like chicken nuggets in their color and size, and I'm willing to bet that there's actually more chicken in these deep fried pickles than there is in a mc donalds chicken nugget, but regardless of that, these things are amazingly delicious and well worth the $3.50 that they run you. The burger itself.. I got a double blue cheese burger and it was rich in flavors and the meat was perfect all around. The sauce on it had dripping bites left and right. The burger is a jaw unhinge worthy burger all around. You will have to smash it down just a little in order to get it in your mouth. But when it does get in there, it's well worth taking up residency. On a side note, you can get a patty for your dog for a buck. What I find odd is that if you want to add a patty to your burger it'll cost you $2. I wonder if you can just lie and say that extra patty is for your imaginary dog.. Santa Barbara may not have many food trucks and this one was probably the first, but it's well worth checking out - especially since they have pretty regular spots they go to and are fairly easy to find. read more

I wanted to eat at the Burger Bus today. I had $8 cash on me, as well as my credit card. I wanted to order the Pesto Burger for $8.50, so I decided to use my credit card. This business engages in the unlawful practice (in California, California Civil Code 1748.1) of adding a surcharge for the use of credit card fees. Not only that, the surcharge is enormous for the price of the item (50 cents). So my $8.50 Pesto Burger is $9.00 if I use a credit card. I wanted to do business with them but I decided to pass. I don't want to give my money to businesses that break the law at the expense of the consumer. read more

I ordered the chipotle burger and a couple sides. The burger to bun (giant ciabatta) ratio is comically off. The cheese that came on the burger wasn't melted. The burger wasn't seasoned. The chipotle spread had zero flavor to it-- no smoke or heat. The onion rings were just plain awful. The fried pickles were tasteless and gooey. My friends had different burgers and some of them tasted great! One had a double that had some habanero spread that was really good-- and their burgers were seasoned! I hate to be that guy, but I thought the whole point of food trucks was to serve common food at lower prices because of the low overhead. This place is kind of rediculous, 13$ for a third pound burger and onion rings, no drink. Plus they surcharge if you use a card.. The food is okay, definitely doesn't warrant the price tag. For 13 bucks I can go to a sit down restaurant, get fries and a drink and still have enough left over for a tip and a healthy deposit into my IRA. I know the owner operators are going to be like "but our beef is grass-fed and everything is organic!" - I'd respond that grass fed / organic standards are not what you think they are and if you are being overcharged for your beef, don't pass that on to us. read more

I have gotten food from the Burger Bus several times and have never once been disappointed. My husband and I recently had the pleasure of having them cater our wedding and they did an absolutely fantastic job. They added little details to make our wedding feel special and the guests loved them. They were easy to contact both before and after the wedding and of course arrived on time and served food according to our guidelines and instructions. The food came out hot and fresh and everyone loved it. I would recommend the Burger Bus both for catering and just to grab a bite around town. After having the CB&J Burger I decided that I will never again have a burger without jelly: salty, sweet, amaze-balls! Not to mention local, grass fed, and hormone free. Now, I'm all grown up, and ordering this deliciousness out of a bright-yellow bus made me feel like I was in some sort of crazy childhood dream. But nay! The CB&J and its creators are very real, as are their sweet potato fries and even sweeter dispositions. They deal well with the crowd of hungry Santa Barbarians, and the food comes out pretty darn fast, anyhow. Fast... and juicy-delicious. In fact, one of the better burgers I've had in my life (and to date, the only one I've had involving both cheese and jelly.) You don't have to have a million items on the menu. You don't have to use truffles or follow the latest fad. You just need to make good food, consistently. This is why I really like The Burger Bus. It's simple, yet always satisfying. For my first time, I had to try the CB&J, spicy. It was a mess (don't forget to grab a wetnap!), but it was delicious. The ciabatta bread is tender but substantial enough to hold up to the burger, fixings and all of the jelly that oozed out. The Pepper Jack cheeseburger was great too. Less messy, but just as delicious. The Grilled cheese was good with the extra veggies, but the bread to cheese/veggie ratio favored the bread. I haven't tried the falafel yet. They offer three sides - yam fries, onion rings and fried pickle chips. They will do a split order of half-onion rings and half-pickle chips if you ask. I've tried all three and the fried pickles are the best hands down. The onion "rings" are pretty good too. The yam fries were a disappointment. I like yam fries but these were undercooked so they were a letdown. Once a line starts, the wait can be long. They don't accept phone-in orders, and they only accept cash. Also, like others have said, the food is good but I wouldn't schedule anything important after you eat because you will be in a food-coma for the rest of the day. Been eating Burger Bus burgers since 2009 I think... they are good burgers in my humble opinion. I usually get their CB&J, but I also have their grilled cheese with everything on it, (it's quite unique), and their onion rings, which are delicious. I remember some years ago they were soggy but I think they've improved their execution in terms of fried sides like onion rings and fries.
