We did a day trip to Shullsburg and stopped The Burg for lunch. The service was extremely slow. The waitress gave us a discount of 20% in effort to save her tip. The food was dull and plain. My husband ordered the steak sandwich, the meat looked like the McRib meat and severed on a dry hoagie bun. Nothing on it, no condiments, dull and dry. I ordered the chicken bacon sandwich, grilled chicken, 2 pieces of bacon on a dry hamburger bun. Nothing on the bun! How much effort could it be to put lettuce, tomato and some mayo on the bun??? read more

Went to Shullsburg this morning for the 4th of July parade. Outstanding! Then went to lunch at The Burg. My group loved it. I ordered the build your own flat bread. Service was great, even though it was very busy. The restaurant is clean. Disregard the Negative Nancy's. We plan on returning to try more items. read more

We had a great mid-afternoon lunch at the Burg this past Friday. All four of us ordered the fish special and it was delicious. Very good quality cod that tasted great both deep fried and baked. Dale served us great old fashions and they also have a good selection of tap beers. The Burg has a great atmosphere, and the classic rock background music added to a great experience. They also just added a gluten free bun for us GF customers. Highly recommended! read more

Out road tripping stopped in The Burg in Schullsburg and absolutely loved it! My fiancé had the Mac-n-cheese 12" pizza and I had the Smoke Stake burger which consisted of a half-pound angus burger with brisket. I also had garlic Parmesan fries. Everything was absolutely delicious! read more

Once again, found thanks to Yelp. In the middle of middle America, surrounded by corn fields, found a small town with this new and very nice restaurant. Clean, well run, and modest menu with several local choices. Tried the Wisconsin cheese curds which were fried and served with ranch dressing. Salty but so yummy! Also had today's special which was Pasty (steak and potato pie ) served with a side of gravy (really good). read more

First time here. I like the way the bar is separate from the dining area. The waitress was very nice. I had the bacon chicken wrap and my friend had chicken sandwich. The food was very good and next time I would like to try the pizza. read more

We could be "grumpy", but for us it's worth the trip from Mt. Horeb to Shullsburg to enjoy the great atmosphere and delicious food at The Burg. It's quiet enough to have a conversation, or you can cheer on your favorite team on one of several televisions situated around the bar and restaurant. Beautifully rehabilitated Victorian-era building with tin ceilings and exposed brick, with pictures of sports and rock and roll legends (including dynamic duos Paul Molitor and Robin Yount AND Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty!) displayed throughout without being overdone. Menu is varied and portions are more than ample, and the prices are reasonable. Definitely worth the trip. read more

Very poor service. Waited over 45 minutes for our food - no one told us there was any sort of wait for food while the place was only half full at 8pm. Guests that arrived 30 min after us received their meals before we had. When I inquired about how much longer we would be waiting the waitress brought out my cold sweet potato fries and cold chicken sandwich with absolutely no condiments or vegetables like the menu says. I then spoke with the manager who was unforgiving and insensitive. When I spoke with my family saying how rude the manager was the waitress responded with "oh you have no idea..." so it seemed like there are some other staff issues going on. For a small town and a first look this place seemed like a cool place to grab some beers and food, but I would never ever step one foot back inside it. read more

In the sleepy town of Shullsburg, I was surprised to stumble across this place. The inside looks like something you would find in Milwaukee, with exposed brick walls and sports memorabelia peppered throughout. The bar is the focal point and it has a healthy variety of local brews on tap as well as others. What surprised me most is that in an area where most bars serve fried food, the menu had a flare that provided bistro-style flatbreads, higher-end appetizers, pizzas, gourmet burgers, and even surf and turf for evening dishes - all of which reasonably priced. It also had a great soup and salad bar. Staff was personable and attentive - and most of the patrons seemed to be on a first-name basis with them. Casual yet fun - great music and great people. So we sat down and the waitress took our drink order, came back and took our food order... then 3 other tables came in and we got our food after all other tables! Waitress even apologized for the wait on our food but it was still over an hour for a burger and club sandwich!! Not even a free drink was offered for the delay. Will never go back and will make sure to let everyone I know they shouldn't go there either. read more

Out driving around on a beautiful Fall Saturday. Stopped here for a bite to eat! Amazing service!!! It was the bar tenders birthday, and one of the locals told us that. We sat at the bar to eat and have a drink, and were treated like we were family (in a good way!)!! Highly recommend this place! Great atmosphere with delicious food! Let's see my husband and I got there about 615 spent the first 10 minutes to 15 minutes being ignored by any staff member then when they finally came to take our order we were informed of the take about 30 minutes for our food to come out which were fine with but that we would get our appetizer before that 30 some minutes later we finally got our appetizer most of it burnt and just crappy and then another 25 minutes and that I finally went up and told my want to pay for what we had and leave all of a sudden our foods ready and hour later I said no thank you read more

The Burg was a wonderful find! My husband and I stumbled across this great bar and grill on a Sunday fun day. We were out for a cruise and came into Schullsburg, WI. Happened upon The Burg and it was exactly what we were looking for! Great food with excellent service. Talked to one of the owners, Jeff, and had a great conversation. He took the time to get to know us and where we were from and what brought us to his area. Had a couple of drinks, a great meal and continued our road trip. Will definitely be back! read more

Don't waste your time or money here. The owner doesn't care about service, and it's clear he trains his staff to be the same way. We went here for lunch today. There were seven people in our group. We were the first people to sit in the restaurant area. There were two other tables at the bar and some people sitting at the bar. The bartender greeted us and told us to sit wherever we wanted. We sat down and the waiter came over to greet us. We asked what the seasonal New Glarus beer was on tap. He said he didn't know and he left it at that. So we asked if he could tells us what it was. I don't think he was going to find out unless we asked. He left and came back to finally tell us. We placed our order for food. It was burgers, wings, and chicken. I'm mentioning this so there is an understanding that we didn't order the surf and turf in terms of time to make our food. (Yes there is surf and turf on the menu) Fifteen minutes go by and a party of fourteen comes in. Ten more minutes to by and two parties of four come in. No food yet. Another fifteen minutes go by and an other table of four comes in. No food yet. Another twenty minutes go by and the table of 14 is served, the two tables of four are served and still no food for us. Our waiter didn't come back to tell us where our food was. The table of fourteen finished eating and still no food. After patiently waiting one hour and twenty minutes, we decided to leave. We told the waiter that the wait was too long, we would pay for our drinks and leave. His response was, "Do you want to talk to someone smarter than me?" I figured it was important for the management to know that this was a failed experience and sought out a manager. I went to the bar and asked the bartender who was in charge. He directed me to the owner who came to speak to me. I proceeded to tell the owner the above issues and his response was, "What did your waiter tell you about the wait?" and placed the blame on the waiter. I told him, it's not the waiter's fault, it's yours for poor operation. His response was, "I'm the owner, but not in charge. I'm having a fantasy football draft right now." I looked at the owner who was wearing a shirt with the name Char Bar on it and it was apparent he was over served. We all walked out. I've eaten here before and the service was ok and food was ok. We actually came to see if the food would be any better. Unfortunately, that never happened, nor will it ever. read more

We loved this place. We bought cheese at the cheese store first and then came here for a drink at the bar. We stayed for dinner and were thrilled with our meals. I had the soup and salad bar while my husband had the shrimp dinner. The shrimp were huge and perfectly grilled. Be sure to stop here to eat. read more
