Outside of Galena's Main Street is this local bar. We are totally tourists and we had a quick dinner here (I wanted to try something off the beaten path) and it's very, very local. The bar area is about 3/4 of the space and there are a few tables for dining. The local crowd is very comfortable here - I didn't feel uncomfortable, but everyone here seems like they already knew each other. One of the guys sitting at the bar got up and start bussing a table... I guess he works there. Despite the crowd, the food did not take too long. The lone server was very busy, but she paid enough attention. I had the steak sandwich, which was seasoned well enough and soft enough to chew through. We're a local and it's hard to get downtown to park anymore to grab a quick bite to eat. Lived here 2 years and just discovered Dillon's. Im addicted! Park, walk in, eat and have a drink all in 35 minutes! Food is amazing, prices are beyond fair and the service, top notch! A lot of places in Galena cater to tourists....this one does not. But in a good way. It's just a very genuine bar/diner (in that order--the bar is the majority of this restaurant, and then there are three small tables). Everyone in this place seems to know each other--the servers and the customers--and it kinda seemed like some were both??? So when we came in, they seemed a little confused, but then service was still friendly. The food is decent--not spectacular, but still pretty good, and the menu had some interesting options to try. If you're looking for something non-touristy, this may be the place for you. Don't bring a big group, though--you won't fit. read more

Do you want local, delicious, and fun? This is the place. Initially we were not planning on going here, but other places wouldn't answer our calls so we stumbled over to here. Plenty of street parking as it's not in the downtown area. The bar itself is excellent, great lighting, great local crowd, excellent bartender, and the drinks were cheap and tasted great. Talking with the regulars was awesome and everyone was super nice and easy to talk with. We started with some mozzarella sticks that were exactly as expected then we took the pizza to go. Disappointed. Unless you are part of the "click" the service is poor. Went several times and once when the owners were present the service was decent. Bar tenders chat with their friends and the food is mediocre. Hoping for a nice neighberhood bar? would not recommend this one read more

The folks at Dillons should get kudo's for supporting the Galena foods pantry and helping people in need. We won a pizza at a raffle after the fundraiser 5k. We found this to be a small, friendly place with great pizza. We tried a Supreme thin crust, and it was very nicely done, with a LOT of flavorful ingredients. The server / bartender (never got her name) was fantastic! Friendly and doing everything on the customer side of the place. Our visit had a group of very loud (!!!) patrons literally in the middle of the place. We couldn't hear each other talk at a table in the corner, but hey, they were having fun, being respectful, and treated like valued customers by our bartender. We'd like to try visiting again when we are in the area, as this looks like a great local place to hang out and enjoy a meal and a drink with friends. read more

I wish I could leave a better review. I went here with my boyfriend, and we sat at one of the tables on the right wall. When we sat down a teenage girl came and barely greeted us. I think the most that was exchanged between her and us was "drinks?", "food?" And that was the extent of it. We proceeded to order two sodas, a thin cut pizza, and nachos. The girl brought back two pop cans that weren't cold (not that there is anything wrong with that, but it threw us off for sure). Then our nachos came and they were on a PAPER PLATE. They didn't have any melted cheese on them. The toppings were cold, and it felt like I could have made them at home. Very unfortunate experience as we both enjoy galena so much. I understand the small town feely vibes of galena, but this was just too much. read more

A very nice bar place to eat. There are just a few tables, but the food is excellent. My hubby & I had the cheeseburgers & fresh cut fries. Delicious! Very friendly & pleasant service. Nothing too fancy which is fine with us. We prefer casual lunch dinning. Next time we visit Galena we must try their pizza. Each day was a special for lunch. Such as pot roast etc. There is outdoor seating but it was not quite ready that day. We parked our car in the front. Very reasonable prices compared to other places nearby. Homemade foods which I luv! Comfort foods!! We will visit again. read more

My first time here. Went here with 2 coworkers on a recommendation to eat breakfast here. It's a few blocks out of downtown. Easy parking out front or across the street. Cozy. Great menu. Great prices. Great service. Great portions. And the Sidemeat was outstanding. Let the server tell you about it before you order it. So yummy I am going back again soon. First, I've never had the pizza. And I wish they offered pizza slices to go. I have been to Dillon's quite a few times for a beer, lunch and lately breakfast. Dillon's is the quintessential knotty pine corner tap, which are prevalent throughout the Midwest. It's where you would expect a chatty bartender or owner hanging out behind the bar, talking to customers, a cast of locals, maybe some decent bar food, and an atmosphere of camaraderie. Well, it's not quite there. Beers are available in bottles only, in a place that's begging for a few taps. Domestic, imported or some local craft beers are the choices. I don't really know if the bartender is really a bartender or a food server, so I've not ordered drinks. Staffed usually with two people-one out front and one in the kitchen. They appear to do a lot of breakfast and takeout business. The menu has appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, pizza and breakfast items. The skillet ($8.00) I had was pretty tasty, and the other breakfast items which have flown my me look good. Decent portions. I wish I could say the same for the lunch items. Kind of munchkin portions, and usually kind of thrown at you by the server. Prices are not bad, but I would not make this a lunch destination. Even the lunch specials ($6.25) I've had were just not worth it. There are quite a few pizza choices, but I know enough to know, I don't care to drop $20 on it here. So I like the atmosphere and the room. It's one of those places which might cause you to think, "maybe I'll open up a little place like this." Off the beaten Main St. path, you will at least get a little time with the locals. And that's a good thing. Great hours, too. read more

Today's special was Country Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. Well what they didn't advertise was the gravy was made with a cow salt lick block. Might as well had lunch at Farm N Fleet. Surprising with the demographics of old people visiting Galena, that much salt will only provide close parking to the front door and a line to the ER. I called them stating that I was unfamiliar with the area/restaurant and that I wanted to order a "traditional" crust pizza, NOT a thin crust. He described the traditional as being thicker and chewier, so that's what I ordered. 1. Upon arriving the woman at the bar told me they ONLY accept CASH, which would have been helpful to know when I was ordering, considering they clearly knew I'd never been there before. 2. I'm almost positive the pizza I received was thin crust pizza. My girlfriend, who adores thin crust pizza, agreed. 3. The "sausage" that I ordered on the pizza was tiny crumblings of meat, less substantial than ground beef. 4. The supposedly 12" pizza (more like 10") with 2 toppings cost $16 and after all was said and done I would've spent my money much better on 4 frozen pizzas from the Walmart down the street. read more

We stopped in here the other day as I always like to try new places when visiting Galena. I wanted to try the pizza but the $20 price scared me away, sorry that's ridiculous for pizza. I ended up with the daily special meatloaf, mashed potatoes and vege. Right when I tried the mashed potatoes I knew it wasn't gonna be great. Don't get me wrong it's a lovely little local establishment but everything is heat and eat. Sorry instant potatoes isn't my thing and the meatloaf certainly wasn't made from scratch. Menu is quite extensive and prices are reasonable aside from pizza prices. I would stop again for drinks but would grab eats somewhere else. read more

The last neighborhood tavern in town that serves awesome pizza, ice cold beer and great appetizers I ordered the Sunday special large pizza with everything and anything you want on it for $12.50 , take out was a little more but it was a bargain because it's more than you could possibly eat. Anybody that thinks 20 bucks is too much for a pizza is a cheap skate. read more
