A very nice lunch at The Bull Ring. The restaurant has served lunch to mostly locals since the early '70s. Today, politicians and government staff dined around us in the bar, chatting away about local issues. We made a reservation though it wasn't entirely necessary with the bar 80% full. Friendly attentive service was experienced by everyone there. We were first-timers but felt welcome. The dark wood and green furniture seemed suited. A pleasant place for lunch. Ordered soup (creamy green chile), a wedge salad, and the Tuesday special meatloaf that came with mash potatoes, steamed veggies, the most wonderful dark gravy, and warm bread. It was all great! The star of the show was actually the gravy, so full of flavor. The wedge was fresh and crisp with maybe a couple too many ingredients for my taste. The soup was "creamy" by title but not as creamy as I expected, and that's actually good. Wonderful flavor. The potatoes were really good too. Portions. Price. Everything met or exceeded expectations. We will certainly be back, probably for lunch again. One last thing: we had a couple leftovers and, I'm surprised I'm saying this, but it was packed up extraordinarily well. Meatloaf in one carton, potatoes in another, a small cup of extra gravy in a separate container. I mean who does that? So considerate. Great attention to detail. Highly recommended. Let's face it, if you want to be in a place where New Mexico's elected want to "see" and "be seen" the Bullring is the place to have dinner. One of my clients loves the Bullring, and that is OK with me. It ensures i am able to enjoy the ambiance at least once a year. The service is very good. The food quality is also very good. So, why four stars instead of five? I blame that on the Pittsburgh Sear... a fun request that traps in the juices and results in a serving of amazing goodness. It is difficult. I am not sure if my order was misinterpreted or not relayed but the filet, which was delicious, lacked the sear ‍ I will try again on a future visit... maybe this time next year? read more

Came here for a holiday company Christmas party. My husband was excited for a steakhouse that we hadn't been to before. The seating was a little awkward because there were two private parties in the same room with a divider and our group and to squeeze around the group in front. It would make more sense to split the room in a different way. Service was great, everyone liked the drinks they got, and we had a ton of delicious food. I came with my girlfriend for our anniversary dinner during our spring break trip to santa fe. We had a very nice time at the Bull Ring and would recommend it. I had the ribs and they were some of the best I've ever had, very tender. Our server was very attentive and made the experience nice. As college students, we weren't spending as much money as other tables - yet we were given just as good service. I really appreciated that and it's not something I see often. Our server remembered I mentioned our anniversary and gave us a free dessert. I didn't catch his name, but he was mid 20s. It had a nice interior, and was very busy when we ate there. Great atmosphere within walking distance of our hotel. Server was nice and took care of us in a professional manner. Interesting salads and a full head of broccoli. Small hiccup when the plates melted to the server tray and they forgot the lobster topping which they corrected quickly. I was mildly disappointed in the prime rib as the middle was though and lacked seasoning. I would not recommend but others at the table said the fillet was the best they had ever eaten. read more

Classic western steakhouse in Santa Fe. We don't have a reservation and they were full on a Saturday night, but snagged a seat at the bar where they have the full menu. The bartender was super nice, so friendly and sweet. We started with cocktails and the escargot, which came swimming in garlic butter and mushrooms. That dish was so rich and delicious. The snails were already removed from the shell. The lemony, garlic butter soaked into the mushrooms and we sopped it up with the fresh bread. We also got a T Bone and the potato gratin. The T bone was huge, nice and rare, fatty, and tender. Perfect steak. Juicy, flavorful. The potato's were cubed with butter, cream, and lots of cheese. We chatted with the other people at the bar. It's got that old school dark steakhouse feel. Full of life and people having a good time on a Saturday night. We stayed late drinking our wine and chatting with the bartender. Everything is more expensive in Santa Fe, and I know this when I go out to eat there. Even so can somebody please tell me what's the market, and what's the price? These are the questions I really want to ask when I see this on a menu. Especially when an 8oz petite filet runs $48 bucks, and everything here is a la carte. I had a salad and a bowl of green chili (which was good) but I couldn't bring myself to order anything more after deciding that my wallet just couldn't handle the abuse. I can certainly afford a fine meal if I want, but unless I am celebrating becoming recently divorced I can't justify it. Three people, and one with just a salad and a bowl of chili ran the bill to well up over two hundred smackaroos. If you are wanting a good meal but don't care about impressing people by being seen coming out of this fine establishment, I would suggest any of the other options of fine food at more reasonable prices available in town. read more

I struggle to recommend this restaurant. Some things were great, but there were a few misses. I will also admit that we did not get steak....and it is a steakhouse after all. Positives: the Brussel sprouts were awesome, the mango sauce and chilean sea bass were good, the pork chops were good too - minus a couple misses. Misses: I had to send my pork chop back to the kitchen to be properly cooked. It was very raw in the middle and pork is not a meat one should eat undercooked. That felt very irresponsible. The pork chops were supposed to be prepared with sweet apples and I literally received only two very thin slices of apple which were buried under the chops. The Mac n cheese was a bit on the dry side. Be warned that everything is served and charged à la carte - you do not get any sides with any main entrées - all sides are charged separately. We were seated right next to a rowdy party of 25 drunk guests who were laughing obnoxiously and yelling across their table. The noise level was unbearable--we couldn't even hold a conversation without shouting. Despite the chaos, our server barely acknowledged the issue, and management did nothing to relocate us or quiet the group. We hurried through our meal just to get out of the place. I'm start by saying that when you walk in you get the feeling of near fine dinning. You almost want to feel dressed up. You have a warm welcome from the host and all the servers are smiling. Then your server comes and offers you and answers every question you have about the drinks. They ask if you have any.ore questions and take your drink order. As you look through the menu you realize that the prices are really high. You order get your food and boom... thats when you realize that the price is the way it is cause the food service and everything is amazing. We had on issue and the guy that came and dropped our food off spilled some dressing on jacket. The manager came over not much longer and extended is apology and got mom a key lime of pie for her birthday. The server also took it to the back and washed it. I have traveled around the world , this country and have eaten in food from peoples trunk to Michelin star restaurants. I have endured many types of service and I will say Marvin is one of the best I have come across. If I owned a restaurant I would have offered him a job in a heart beat. We are visiting from Colorado, which has some of the best steak restaurants in the country. So... we went in a little biased. The service was fine. The drinks were fine. I wanted a glass of the Savignon Blanc then realized it was a brand I can get at Costco for $13 a bottle and this restaurant had the glass for $12... The steaks were mostly why this got the 3 stars it did. They were great, even though one of my kids ordered a medium and it was definitely rare. But the sides... ya'll. Au gratin potatoes are not chunks of potato with cheddar cheese on top. The mashed potatoes were bland... the asparagus was just ok. I don't know. This was the last time for us. It was without a doubt one of the worst dining experiences any of us had ever had not only in Santa Fe but anywhere else. The service was shameful. A steak was forgotten from the order consequently there was no dining together at our table. The lyonnaise potatos had no flavor. The shrimp cocktail tasted old and toxic. The salads were split when they were not requested to be split. The used utensils sat on our table the entire time during the meal. The waiter never came back to ask about the quality of the food. This was the last time we will dine at the Bull Ring. There were only 5 other occupied tables in the entire restaurant. The restaurant is in a downtown area with street parking. It's kinda tucked within a building but the GPS got us close and they had signs guiding us to the place. The inside is really nice and clean. It has an upscale look and I'm sure you could dress up and come here or dress casually and still fit in. They are known for steaks and they are in the $40-55 range. No sides are included and they have large sides that can be ordered for $10-20. Desserts are $10-15. The salads seem to be the best deal at $25 and huge portions. All the food was pretty good. Very good steakhouse experience in downtown Santa Fe. Came for my father's birthday. The outdoor area was great in early October with some heat lamps to keep it comfortable. The dining room had a more traditional feel to it. We had the seared tuna app, petit filet & ribeye el matador, mashed potatoes, & mushrooms. Everything was perfectly seasoned and tasty. I've had The Bull Ring in my bookmarks for a while now, but we just recently got around to visiting it for the first time and it was every bit as good as my friends promised! The ambiance combines mirrors, dark woodwork and booths to create a feeling of urban elegance.  Because of the good use they've put carpeting and ceiling tiles to, the venue is very conversation friendly, even when there are quite a lot of people dining here :-) My friends and I enjoyed two red-meat entrees as well as the chicken Sante Fe.  The latter is a whole chicken breast that's prepared with locally grown herbs, and it was heavenly!  For the red-meat entrees we went with a New York Strip and the Rib Eye; both were cooked perfectly, seasoned to perfection, and beautifully marbled.  They were melt-in-your mouth tender, and there was literally nothing left when we we finished with them.   Sides here are served a la carte; we had the "Cajun Style" BBQ Shrimp and the Onion Rings; both were quite tasty, but the Onion Rings were a total hit with all of us.  For desert we shared an order of the Chocolate Mousse and the Pecan Pie; they made a wonderful finish to an exceptional meal. Service throughout our meal was excellent, and our waitress displayed just the right mix of friendly attentiveness and respect for our private conversations. Bottom line: The Bull Ring isn't in any way an inexpensive dining destination, but the quality of the food and service makes the overall value proposition very attractive.  Highly recommended! read more

Wanted to like it, twice. Just couldn't. The food is meh. First trip a few of us had the 14 oz filet. Medium. They were excellent cuts of meet, and fully "done." Talk about disappointment! Waitress didn't mind at all. They forgot a few items. Service was meh. Drinks were also just okay. Round two. Similar experience. The food overall is just not great. The bread service - bland, below average. Appetizers vs sides are confusing. Brussels for apps? Also had a wedge salad that wasn't good. Bland flavors, nothing about it seemed fresh or house made. The Bull Ring has been open since 1971 which is pretty amazing. I liked the dark decor and being able to people watch from our booth. The food is done really well and salted lightly compared to other steakhouses I've been to. We started with the escargot which was sizzling in butter and garlic. They also come with mushrooms and paired nicely with some lemon juice on top. For my entree I had the El Matador which is a strip steak served with green Chile, mushrooms and onion straws. It was cooked perfectly to my liking and very filling since it's 14 ounces. I also tried some of my date's pork chop and it was so moist and delicious. The carrot cake was layered in a cream cheese frosting that almost tasted like cheesecake. It was one of the best desserts I've had in a while. I can't wait to go back! read more

Also waiter said bread was sourdough. It was not. Husband has gluten allergy so bread didn't fair well later on. Also, no knowledge of fish menu because he "doesn't really eat fish". Odd reply from waitstaff. Anyhow, if your in town and look at the ratings, I would pass on this place and try something a little more vibrant in Santa Fe. read more

just now My partner and I had dinner here last night for my 71st birthday. We celebrated my 70th here last year. It was a Sunday night. If I could have given more than 5 I would have... I did leave a review last year. We came back to Santa Fe this year (here for a week) to enjoy the town and revisit The Bull Ring. The food was good but the overall experience was disappointing. The dining room was only about half to 2/3 full, but was still quite noisy. The table cloth had a stain on it. To be honest, I didn't notice it until after my cocktail arrived. And it was where the cocktail was placed. I felt it and it was dry. I hadn't noticed it before, I think I would have. We mentioned it to the assistant, she offered to change out the cloth or relocate us to the neighboring booth...we preferred to just place a white napkin over it. The waiter arrived to follow up, and Insisted that the spot was from the cocktail. Whether it was or wasn't, his attitude, from my perspective, was not service oriented. He then asked what we wanted to do and I explain to him that we had already solved the issue with his assistant. He made no comment that one might expect but just turned and walked away. The Gentleman's steak arrived on a small plate, No garnish! Ordered medium rare, but came rare. Not a huge problem, I did not send it back, but quite honestly, I'm in my humble opinion, there is no excuse for that. He did not offer wine with the meal, which I usually have, but opted not to given that the experience was already substandard and I was not inclined to spend any more money given the disappointing experience up to that point. The reality for me is that this waiter was the biggest problem for us, in terms of having a satisfying experience. it may not be fair but the waiter in the previous year created and added to a wonderful environment which was quiet on a Sunday evening, offer an alternative suggestions to our orders such as if we want to do another sauce options on our Gentlemans steak. Engaged with us in a warm manner that communicated his concern for our experience thus accomplishing the goal of "excellent service" which can make or break a dining experience. Our waiter last night was NOT unpleasant, he was just lacking...the word that comes to mind to me is "haughty". Again he was in the way, unpleasant or rude. He just wasn't "present" to us as his guests. This just served to amplify the other problems with the overall experience. With all of this said... We will definitely return to the Bull Ring, but on a Sunday evening, for what we would hope would be a bit more of a low-key experience in terms dining room noise. read more

Our group of seven had 6:30 PM reservations. Upon arrival we were seated in a comfortable round table. The dining room has that warm steakhouse ambiance. Seating is also available in half booths and on the patio. Our server Carlos was friendly and attentive throughout our dinner experience. The background music consisted of Jazz Standards. A lower volume of the music would have made the room more conversation friendly. We ordered the following Appetizers: Escargot with Mushrooms and Garlic Butter. A fantastic starter Entrees: Filet 6 oz., Filet 12 oz., Lobster 12 oz., Sea Bass Sides: Onion Strings, Creamed Spinach, Lyonnaise Potatoes All of the food was perfectly prepared as requested and tasted great.
