A very nice lunch at The Bull Ring. The restaurant has served lunch to mostly locals since the early '70s. Today, politicians and government staff dined around us in the bar, chatting away about local issues. We made a reservation though it wasn't entirely necessary with the bar 80% full. Friendly attentive service was experienced by everyone there. We were first-timers but felt welcome. The dark wood and green furniture seemed suited. A pleasant place for lunch. Ordered soup (creamy green chile), a wedge salad, and the Tuesday special meatloaf that came with mash potatoes, steamed veggies, the most wonderful dark gravy, and warm bread. It was all great! The star of the show was actually the gravy, so full of flavor. The wedge was fresh and crisp with maybe a couple too many ingredients for my taste. The soup was "creamy" by title but not as creamy as I expected, and that's actually good. Wonderful flavor. The potatoes were really good too. Portions. Price. Everything met or exceeded expectations. We will certainly be back, probably for lunch again. One last thing: we had a couple leftovers and, I'm surprised I'm saying this, but it was packed up extraordinarily well. Meatloaf in one carton, potatoes in another, a small cup of extra gravy in a separate container. I mean who does that? So considerate. Great attention to detail. Highly recommended. Let's face it, if you want to be in a place where New Mexico's elected want to "see" and "be seen" the Bullring is the place to have dinner. One of my clients loves the Bullring, and that is OK with me. It ensures i am able to enjoy the ambiance at least once a year. The service is very good. The food quality is also very good. So, why four stars instead of five? I blame that on the Pittsburgh Sear... a fun request that traps in the juices and results in a serving of amazing goodness. It is difficult. I am not sure if my order was misinterpreted or not relayed but the filet, which was delicious, lacked the sear ‍ I will try again on a future visit... maybe this time next year? read more

First of all, the pictures online of the interior don't do it justice. The ambiance is classic steakhouse but not outdated as it may appear in the pictures. The drink specials were fun, enjoyable and refreshing. We started with a salad and although we didn't request it, they were kind enough to split it for us both. The petit filet was supposed to be 8 ounces but it had to be 10+ while the filet was supposed to be 12 but was closer to a solid 16 ounces! **I recommend making a reservation*** This is one of the "must visit" restaurants when in Santa Fe! The food and cocktails were amazing, however, the server could refine her skills just a bit. Absolutely worst dining experience both in Santa Fe and anywhere we have been. It was so bad we left 3 bites into my rib eye and left the wine we ordered. Service was sub par from the start. Are you ready to order? No "here's the wine list" , "here's our specials" " my name is so and so etc" but to make matters worse we were seated next to a large party 10+ who were just partying...super loud and obnoxious and every other word was the F word. It was instantly uncomfortable from the moment we were seated. There were 4 other couples besides us in the otherwise usually quiet dining room and everyone was clearly uncomfortable. Finally, an hour into our experience after getting our appetizer, steaks were served. Buffalo was delicious but the rib eye was tough and clearly not good quality meat. 3 bites in the party table had more guests come and they all were standing hovering over our table and cussing. We tried to alert the server and clueless. We finally politely said something to the party table as they were pulling up more chairs. The server said he couldn't do anything after he just offered them another round of drinks! The manager was at the table socializing so he clearly thought it was ok. Everyone was WASTED! The manager was no better I think they were his friends. We left hungry. Didn't eat and paid $240 plus tip for our meal. We were offered dessert to stay after I already expressed to the manager that the people left to the bar and came back making confrontational comments to us at our table? They were yelling comments as they left and instead of the restaurant asking them to leave guess what? They served them more! Complete trailer trash experience. Why would I want dessert if I hadn't even eaten my dinner? Been going to bull ring in the bar for 10 years, our first time in the dining room. This is NOT fine dining. Felt like a local brewery. So much for a nice dinner with my husband. Will be going for a do over at one of the REAL fine dines in Santa Fe tomorrow. This place is a joke. read more

Came here for a holiday company Christmas party. My husband was excited for a steakhouse that we hadn't been to before. The seating was a little awkward because there were two private parties in the same room with a divider and our group and to squeeze around the group in front. It would make more sense to split the room in a different way. Service was great, everyone liked the drinks they got, and we had a ton of delicious food. I came with my girlfriend for our anniversary dinner during our spring break trip to santa fe. We had a very nice time at the Bull Ring and would recommend it. I had the ribs and they were some of the best I've ever had, very tender. Our server was very attentive and made the experience nice. As college students, we weren't spending as much money as other tables - yet we were given just as good service. I really appreciated that and it's not something I see often. Our server remembered I mentioned our anniversary and gave us a free dessert. I didn't catch his name, but he was mid 20s. It had a nice interior, and was very busy when we ate there. Classic western steakhouse in Santa Fe. We don't have a reservation and they were full on a Saturday night, but snagged a seat at the bar where they have the full menu. The bartender was super nice, so friendly and sweet. We started with cocktails and the escargot, which came swimming in garlic butter and mushrooms. That dish was so rich and delicious. The snails were already removed from the shell. The lemony, garlic butter soaked into the mushrooms and we sopped it up with the fresh bread. We also got a T Bone and the potato gratin. The T bone was huge, nice and rare, fatty, and tender. Perfect steak. Juicy, flavorful. The potato's were cubed with butter, cream, and lots of cheese. We chatted with the other people at the bar. It's got that old school dark steakhouse feel. Full of life and people having a good time on a Saturday night. We stayed late drinking our wine and chatting with the bartender. Everything is more expensive in Santa Fe, and I know this when I go out to eat there. Even so can somebody please tell me what's the market, and what's the price? These are the questions I really want to ask when I see this on a menu. Especially when an 8oz petite filet runs $48 bucks, and everything here is a la carte. I had a salad and a bowl of green chili (which was good) but I couldn't bring myself to order anything more after deciding that my wallet just couldn't handle the abuse. I can certainly afford a fine meal if I want, but unless I am celebrating becoming recently divorced I can't justify it. Three people, and one with just a salad and a bowl of chili ran the bill to well up over two hundred smackaroos. If you are wanting a good meal but don't care about impressing people by being seen coming out of this fine establishment, I would suggest any of the other options of fine food at more reasonable prices available in town. read more

I struggle to recommend this restaurant. Some things were great, but there were a few misses. I will also admit that we did not get steak....and it is a steakhouse after all. Positives: the Brussel sprouts were awesome, the mango sauce and chilean sea bass were good, the pork chops were good too - minus a couple misses. Misses: I had to send my pork chop back to the kitchen to be properly cooked. It was very raw in the middle and pork is not a meat one should eat undercooked. That felt very irresponsible. The pork chops were supposed to be prepared with sweet apples and I literally received only two very thin slices of apple which were buried under the chops. The Mac n cheese was a bit on the dry side. Be warned that everything is served and charged à la carte - you do not get any sides with any main entrées - all sides are charged separately. I'm start by saying that when you walk in you get the feeling of near fine dinning. You almost want to feel dressed up. You have a warm welcome from the host and all the servers are smiling. Then your server comes and offers you and answers every question you have about the drinks. They ask if you have any.ore questions and take your drink order. As you look through the menu you realize that the prices are really high. You order get your food and boom... thats when you realize that the price is the way it is cause the food service and everything is amazing. We had on issue and the guy that came and dropped our food off spilled some dressing on jacket. The manager came over not much longer and extended is apology and got mom a key lime of pie for her birthday. The server also took it to the back and washed it. I have traveled around the world , this country and have eaten in food from peoples trunk to Michelin star restaurants. I have endured many types of service and I will say Marvin is one of the best I have come across. If I owned a restaurant I would have offered him a job in a heart beat. A steak was forgotten from the order consequently there was no dining together at our table. The lyonnaise potatos had no flavor. The shrimp cocktail tasted old and toxic. The salads were split when they were not requested to be split. The used utensils sat on our table the entire time during the meal. The waiter never came back to ask about the quality of the food. This was the last time we will dine at the Bull Ring. There were only 5 other occupied tables in the entire restaurant. The restaurant is in a downtown area with street parking. It's kinda tucked within a building but the GPS got us close and they had signs guiding us to the place. The inside is really nice and clean. It has an upscale look and I'm sure you could dress up and come here or dress casually and still fit in. They are known for steaks and they are in the $40-55 range. No sides are included and they have large sides that can be ordered for $10-20. Desserts are $10-15. The salads seem to be the best deal at $25 and huge portions. All the food was pretty good. Honestly, I was willing to ignore the bad reviews in favor of the good. I really wanted a good steak at a solid steakhouse with some delicious sides. We are visiting from Colorado, which has some of the best steak restaurants in the country. So... we went in a little biased. The service was fine. The drinks were fine. I wanted a glass of the Savignon Blanc then realized it was a brand I can get at Costco for $13 a bottle and this restaurant had the glass for $12... The steaks were mostly why this got the 3 stars it did. They were great, even though one of my kids ordered a medium and it was definitely rare. But the sides... ya'll. Au gratin potatoes are not chunks of potato with cheddar cheese on top. The mashed potatoes were bland... the asparagus was just ok. I don't know. I've had The Bull Ring in my bookmarks for a while now, but we just recently got around to visiting it for the first time and it was every bit as good as my friends promised! The ambiance combines mirrors, dark woodwork and booths to create a feeling of urban elegance.  Because of the good use they've put carpeting and ceiling tiles to, the venue is very conversation friendly, even when there are quite a lot of people dining here :-) My friends and I enjoyed two red-meat entrees as well as the chicken Sante Fe.  The latter is a whole chicken breast that's prepared with locally grown herbs, and it was heavenly!  For the red-meat entrees we went with a New York Strip and the Rib Eye; both were cooked perfectly, seasoned to perfection, and beautifully marbled.  They were melt-in-your mouth tender, and there was literally nothing left when we we finished with them.   Sides here are served a la carte; we had the "Cajun Style" BBQ Shrimp and the Onion Rings; both were quite tasty, but the Onion Rings were a total hit with all of us.  For desert we shared an order of the Chocolate Mousse and the Pecan Pie; they made a wonderful finish to an exceptional meal. Service throughout our meal was excellent, and our waitress displayed just the right mix of friendly attentiveness and respect for our private conversations. Bottom line: The Bull Ring isn't in any way an inexpensive dining destination, but the quality of the food and service makes the overall value proposition very attractive.  Highly recommended! read more

The Bull Ring has been open since 1971 which is pretty amazing. I liked the dark decor and being able to people watch from our booth. The food is done really well and salted lightly compared to other steakhouses I've been to. We started with the escargot which was sizzling in butter and garlic. They also come with mushrooms and paired nicely with some lemon juice on top. For my entree I had the El Matador which is a strip steak served with green Chile, mushrooms and onion straws. It was cooked perfectly to my liking and very filling since it's 14 ounces. I also tried some of my date's pork chop and it was so moist and delicious. The carrot cake was layered in a cream cheese frosting that almost tasted like cheesecake. It was one of the best desserts I've had in a while. I can't wait to go back! read more
