I came here yesterday with one of my bridesmaids and my mom, with high expectations since friends had recommended the shop to me, and I wasn't disappointed. This was the 4th bridal store I visited, the other three being regular bridal shops (one in Howell, one in WB, and David's Bridal in Novi). I knew going in that all proceeds are donated to cancer charities, which is great; I didn't know that all the employees are volunteers, too. Our assistant was Lisa and she was great. In my two-hour appointment I probably tried on 5-7 dresses. Some weren't as "fancy" as I wanted (mostly the Torrid ones, but the prices were excellent; $50+) but I found two I really liked, and ended up buying one! For $450, which is about 1/4 the price of another dress I saw at one of the other shops and really liked. They do alterations there too - the shop itself allows credit cards but the seamstresses, who are also volunteers, just take cash or check. The shop advised me to come back about 3 months before my wedding to start the alterations process, so that would be June of next year. They told me they do cost-effective alterations, too, so this is where I'll be taking my dress. Overall super pleased with this store, and glad that their mission is so charitable, too. read more

If I could leave no stars I would. I made an appointment at The Brides Project on March 25, 2025 to come in on April 13, 2025 at 10am with an out of town group. I arrive with my group and the woman behind the counter cannot find my reservation. I provide her with proof and confirmation of my appointment and she tells me they are booked and cannot accommodate me. She apologized but did not try to do anything to remedy the situation. She offered a later time but I said we cant, she offered that same time again and I had to repeat myself. I made a reservation, I had proof and the business messed up. As a bride, this is disheartening, shattering, and made me not want to stay in the shop. I do NOT recommend this shop for a bride. The inability of the workers to provide further accommodation or be flexible, ie having me use the alteration room or rotate rooms with another bride, is what I find most upsetting. read more

The service was truly a dream. Picked the first dress I tried on. I knew it was the one. IT WAS STUNNING! But the reason I gave it 3 stars is because seamstress didn't listen when I told her I was going to lose weight before the wedding. I told her to go in a size and she refused. I picked up my dress and it was big. She told me to get dress tap, remind you my dress is a good 20 pounds. I'm a small girl. 0-2 in pants. My dress was a size 2. My dress looked big on me. Hi! This review is purely for volunteer Jan. Jan helped me this past weekend looking for a bridal gown. Although I did not end up buying from the store, she was UNBELIEVABLY amazing. I felt like I had an advocate in the store. She was rooting for me and my whole person. What a rare concept in the bridal industry, where most places are trying to make a sale. At the end of my appointment, I was in between two dresses. One dress I liked, but another dress I loved! The second one didn't fit me though. And Jan was so delicate and kind to me as I fretted about the decision. She said helpful things, like "if you don't like a dress just tell me , I didn't make it so you won't hurt my feelings!", and " the dress shouldn't cling to you, it should drape over you." And "youre perfect, you don't need to change a thing about yourself." Wow! What kind words to say. She let me chat with my bridesmaids as much as possible. She let me call my mom. She let me try on dress after dress. At the end of the day, the dress I loved was just simply too small and I was having so much anxiety about getting it to work to my body that I ended up walking away. And guess what...Jan was so absolutely kind and gracious. I felt so much regret telling her that I wasn't getting it but to the very end of the appointment she was my advocate and wanted what I wanted. Thank you Jan. You were the best. This place is absolutely incredible! I highly recommend it to every bride. I love the charity they support. My mom has been battling cancer and this was an amazing way to also support her. I booked an appointment from out of state. Throughout the booking process everyone was so caring and helpful. They reminded me that the shop is run by volunteers. That alone is inspiring! When I got there, they had a room with my name hung and it immediately made me feel special. I had help from my own attendant, Jan, and she was amazing. Jan helped us to pick out dresses, try them on, brought accessories and showed me how they can change the look of the dress. Thank you Jan for all your support. The dresses were amazing! Incredible prices. All the dresses I wanted were within my price range and I wanted to keep a lower budget. I tried on probably 20 dresses and they were so kind and supportive with each one. Each dress absolutely stunning. I did not end up getting my dress there. I live across the country and was nervous about buying a dress. I loved them but was not sure yet if they were "my dress." I asked if they could mail the dresses. And although that is not something they typically do, they said they would make that work and they noted my top two dresses. I cannot say enough amazing things about this shop, the staff/volunteers, the dresses, and the overall experience. Thank you The Brides Project! Today I met my best friend at the brides project to pick out a dress for her elopement. My husband and I weren't even able to say hello to her before we were shoved out the door and into the rain with our newborn baby by the woman working. She said that babies are not allowed. My sleeping baby that was strapped to me in a baby carrier, causing absolutely no harm whatsoever. Absolutely will not recommend this place for the sole fact of how absolutely rude the staff is. read more

I don't have the words to describe how perfect the atmosphere and experience shopping for a wedding dress was at The Brides Project. I am getting married in September and was so nervous about getting pressured at a "typical" store to spend more than I wanted or to feel a certain way about a dress. And considering that I wanted to spend less than $1K in a wedding dress - which is actually quite difficult to do in any typical store - I was ready to buy online but wanted to get a sense of colors and fit first. So I made some appointments at big name stores - and checked Yelped and somehow found this Blessing of a place. Nonprofit organization with profits going towards helping families touched by cancer? Awesome A huge selection of used or new dresses? Fabulous! And prices less than $1000 with the average dress around $400?! HOLY CRAP IM THERE. I literally made an appointment for the only available time for the upcoming Saturday - which I would definitely bunking appointments but they do have limited hours - and I got a confirmation email and a follow up personalized email from my assistant who was volunteering that day. She was really friendly, helpful and had great insight - and absolutely no pressure. Everyone was just so friendly and knowing that we were all there for a purpose larger than ourselves really put things in perspective. I was thrilled that I could say "HECK YES!" To a dress there - one that was actually new with tags and in my price range and was gorgeous and what I was looking for!! They also have a small selection of headpieces and shoes and veils - which probably change month to month based on Donations - so I'd definitely keep my eye out for something since they are great prices! They also have a woman associated that does alterations but no pressure To use here. I'm so grateful to have found this great organization, be able to support them and also find a beautiful dress at a great price - It was definitely stress free and a dream Come true!!! thank you Bride Project! Diane was an amazing volunteer who helped pull dresses and gave me honest and uplifting feedback. My daughter Adrienne wanted to have a wedding that was earth friendly, sustainable and meaningful and she began with the Brides Project. As others have said, the volunteer staff are wonderful, as soon as we walked in she knew she chose the right place to get her gown. To know that all the proceeds go towards cancer research is incredible. The staff helped her find the PERFECT gown and Jan the seamstress did a flawless job with alterations including changing the train and bustle so that it was beautiful and easy for the bride to dance in. I didn't buy my dress here, but I love this store! Came here last April for my first time dress shopping and forgot to leave a review back then. They say appointments only, so I made one for Saturday morning. I can't stress enough how wonderful all the workers are. Every lady was so kind and lovely towards me and my mother, and my fiance's mother. They grabbed any dress they thought I would like, and patiently watched me try on dress after dress. I love the concept and the dress selection was pretty large! The only change I'd make would be to go dress shopping at a boutique first, to get an idea of what style you like, and then come here. I didn't have a very clear idea so my options were kind of all over the place. Also, don't be alarmed by the lack of dresses in "your size". Some of the dresses are completely new, but also many are altered and fit a total different size than listed, or the designer sizes just vary. They also let me take as many photos as I wanted, which was a huge bonus. Highly highly recommend! read more

I had such a fantastic experience at the Brides Project. I originally heard about the Brides Project from my friend who resides in Canada who told me about the Canadian Brides Project. I did some research and found out about our US counterpart. I love that the Brides Project takes donations from boutiques and former brides, sells them at affordable prices, and then passes on all the proceeds to the Cancer Support Community. In an industry that's all about consumption, it's great to know that my purchase is 100% directly benefiting such a wonderful cause. I did not make an appointment but was greeted right when I walked in and received wonderful service. There's a huge variety of dresses, sizes 0-30, from many different designers. The volunteers at the Brides Project were extremely friendly and helpful. Maureen was very knowledgeable and attentive. She noted what styles I was drawn to and picked out dresses from the rack that I completely missed... and one that I ended up saying yes to! She also advised me on ways I could accessorize or change the dress to fit my personal style. There was a lot I never even thought about and I felt a lot more informed and empowered. This was the first and only place I went to try on wedding dresses. When my friend and I arrived, they informed us they weren't actually open due to remodeling, but allowed us in to look at some dresses anyway. The women who helped us were so friendly and kind. They showed us around and stayed close by to lend a hand whenever I needed more help climbing in/out of dresses, pairing accessories, fanning out my train. The main woman who stayed close by was amazing and so helpful! She even picked out the dress I ended up choosing! Everyone in the shop made me the center of attention and really helped me feel comfortable finding my perfect dress! What a wonderful concept! Donated new/used dresses and bridal accessories at a reduced price for sale- proceeds of your purchase go towards Cancer Support. You have to email to schedule an appointment, they call to confirm the day of- when you arrive you are greeted by volunteers and are treated to a private shopping experience. I brought my mom and future mother in-law to the brides project yesterday. We were greeted by two friendly and professional volunteers. They were very good at explaining how the process works and helped us search for a dress. My mom and I were looking to find a dress or possibly two we could sew together to make the perfect dress. The two volunteers were so friendly, they assisted me in the fitting rooms trying on all the dress I desired. Some dresses were new, some donated so they had been altered for the first bride.. You really have to go in with an open mind- don't be afraid of the size on the tag- sometimes a 14 fits like a 10. While my dress and I did not find eachother....to bad, they had dresses as low as $75! We are still glad we went to the brides project. I was able to pick up a hair piece for a great price... Always good to save money when planning a wedding! Whether you are looking for a dress, shoes, veils, accessories... Book an appt at the brides project or contact them if you have something to donate to such a cause. Everyone here is very kind. It is a very relaxed atmosphere. The room is full of beautiful dresses just waiting for you to purchase them! Dresses range from $400-$1,000. They are all donated so make sure you look them over well. I would suggest an appointment, but they do take walk ins if they have the room. read more

After trying dresses in 4 other conventional/alternative bridal places in Chicago and Ann Arbor, I must say the service and the attention I received at The Brides Project were way better than anywhere else. I recently went to The Brides Project to help a friend pick out her wedding gown. I was a little skeptical of a used-dress shop but was very surprised by the amazing gown selection and many of them were modern-styled and priced under $500. Although they had been used, none of the dresses appeared remotely soiled or overly worn. It was also nice that all of the dresses were already bustled (saves you more $$$). The volunteers were very sweet and helpful as well. Make sure you make an appointment if you plan on trying on dresses and remove your shoes once inside. Its also pretty hidden but easy to find once you park on the west side of the entire complex on the lower level (its the building one level down from Cardamom, etc). My friend ended up getting her wedding dress here but looked amazing in all of them. The only downside was that it was difficult to say "yes to [1] dress" and she even contemplated 2 wedding dresses (with those prices, you technically could get 2 dresses if your budget was designated at/below $1000). They allowed her to keep multiple dresses and veils on hold and arranged her an appointment to discuss alterations. I highly recommend this place to anyone in the market for a bridal gown! read more

This is a great place with a very large selection of beautiful resale wedding dresses in all sizes. It's a small place and they only see one or two clients at a time, and have a small pedestal with a mirror for trying on your selections. They have a lot of accessories available there too to test out and an on site wedding dress alteration expert. Prices for dresses, accessories and alterations are all reasonable, and profits go to a great cause. The volunteers who assist you there are very helpful too. I would definitely recommend the Brides Project to any bride! The have a great selection of dresses in many different sizes and styles, most of which are in great quality and are very reasonably priced! I found designer dresses, such as Lazaro, JCrew, Reem Acra, and Mori Lee. I was definitely impressed by the quality of dresses in the shop, and even more impresses when I saw the prices! Besides dresses they also have accessories, veils, and shoes. The volunteers were very supportive of the dress-selection process, and attentive to their brides. This was the first (and only) place I looked for a bridal gown and I was extremely happy. Maureen helped through the entire process and was really nice and helpful. I was nervous at first about finding a gown because just like thrift shopping, it will really depends on what they have in stock and it could be a good or bad timing for their stock. However, they had a wide variety of dresses from a bunch of designers so I had little issue finding one I wanted. In addition, it's extremely affordable. Last, the proceeds go to a non-profit, which was really what I was excited about. I had little interest in spending a ton of money on a dress only to wear it for one day, so knowing that what I was paying went to an organization was great.
