This is a drink review only! A friend and I were in the area, finished dinner way too early, and had almost an hour to kill before our show. We decided to head towards 10th to see if there was a bar where we could grab a drink. Stumbled onto the Brazen Tavern. We were upfront about the fact we were only here for drinks and they were super nice about it. We were sat at a table almost right away and both ordered a well drink off their Happy Hour menu. Waitress was super nice and friendly. We were never rushed to leave even though we only ordered one drink each. I'll definitely keep the Brazen Tavern in mind the next time we're in the area for a show. read more

This tavern is a hidden gem amongst the chaos of midtown. Off of 9th Avenue, it was not crowded on a Friday evening. There was ample seating and good service. They have a fire place in the back too. The menu of drinks and food is extensive. I had their pretzels bites and an espresso martini. The prices are pretty reasonable for midtown. This place is much nicer than most of the other crowded pubs in midtown so if you're looking for something lowkey, come here read more

I love walking into an Irish pub with all the dark woods and warm feelings. We were greeted by Ryan, a super sweet and funny with the most adorable dimples. It was 5pm and pretty empty so he spent time talking with us. He was the ultimate appetizer! There were 4 of us. One got the veggie burger and the other 3 of us split soft Pretzels with beer cheese and cauliflower bites with a garlic Parmesan sauce. It was so good, we ordered a second plate of each. Super packed yet we were able to score a seat after a 5 min wait. This place was really loud with patrons yet the whole experience would have been fine had they not had a sub woofer mounted above the door blasting distorted music. Not sure what management is thinking with that setup, not enjoyable at all. We couldn't even have a conversation without basically yelling to one another. And although we would have liked to have a couple drinks before our meal we quickly finished our meal and left. The food itself was good. Each was made with a corn tortilla, crispy cod, cilantro, house made slaw + a light drizzle of chipotle mayo. the thinly cut slaw definitely had tangy, interesting zest to it which I loved. I also appreciated that they went lighter on the sauce. Great char on the tortillas. Looooove that they use cod as it's really the only way to go with this style. 3 tacos for about $20 isn't unheard of these days so I think all the components and size are worth it. Went to Brazen Tavern for a networking event and it was a good spot for a small gathering. Our group of about 20-25 people was set up in the back room, which had a couch and a few small tables, cozy but comfortable for standing and mingling. There was music playing, but it wasn't too loud, which allowed for conversations. We had a dedicated waitress for the group taking individual drink orders. I had an Aperol Spritz during happy hour for $8, and the group shared some bar bites like sliders, wings, chicken fingers, and crudités. I stopped in here after dinner for a few drinks before heading back to my hotel for the night. There were a few open seats at the bar, as soon as I sat down the bartender came over and greeted me. He was efficient and personable, overall a good bartender that told me I chose a good spot. There seemed to be several regulars in the bar which was good, I had enough of tourists (even though I was one) for the day. It also tells me that this place must do some things right. I didn't order food but did look over the menu, the traditional bar fare you'd expect, burgers, nachos, etc. with the obligatory Irish additions (per the name). The environment was exactly what I like. The lighting was perfect, not too bright but I could see, there was background music that allowed you to have a conversation with someone and not feel like your every word was heard. My visit to The Brazen Tavern was... lackluster. Liked the exterior and the interior (inside was redecorated while working to maintain a vintage vibe), but the experience was underwhelming. Sparse crowd, and the server told us when we came in that they were about to close (online said they were there 2 hours from closing). Last call was 40 minutes before the server's closing time, and the server was definitely trying to get us out ASAP. The drinks were fine, but the overall experience felt lacking. Best Shepard's pie of my life. Literally dreamt about the flavor and came home desperate to re-create it (don't have it sorted yet, but paprika seems to be a must.) If you don't have the patience to fiddle with it yourself, step in and try it for yourself. The ambiance wasn't particularly cohesive or breathtaking, but it was warm and inviting, not unlike the staff, who were patient and pleasant to this tired tourist. Terrible! Not sure I understand why this place has anyone here. Came here for one reason: shepherds pie - haven't had it in forever so being in NYC I figured I should be able to have a top notch one. This was not to be the case however. Lets start with the service: minus 5 stars here: Pathetic - the waitress showed up after a long while - easily 5 minutes - took the drinks order then left - came back with them and then took my better half's food order and walked away - spent at least 5 minutes talking to the hostess and was about to walk past me almost not noticing I was actively working at flagging her down. Back to what I had gone there for: Shepherds pie - first off the mashed on top was unequivocally from powdered potatoes the filling was also substandard - some sort of meat that was just edible and the steak sauce - which should have been HP was who knows what. Another 1 star for this - Mindy's salad was adequate so let's be generous and give them 2 stars for that - in total they are a minus 2 star shop. Don't waste your time nor hard earned money on this circus - better places are around for sure! This is NYC after all! read more

A cool spot all around. Came here to see college friends and we hung out in the back with the couches and vibed all night. The decor is chic and in general a darker vibe. It's a sports bar through and through and just a cool spot to get some drinks. The bartender was hella cool and when we were the last group there we got ask him to turn the music off a sec and sing our college a cappella songs! Drinks and an app. I had a beer, Toni a margarita. We shared Buffalo spring rolls. They came out quick and hot. Imagine Buffalo chicken dip rolled up in a wrapper. Nice hot food for a gray chilly March day. Then dinner. Fish and chips for me. Burger for Toni. The fries were so good. Crisp, hot, just enough salt. Good potato flavor. The fish was maybe the best fried fish I have had in a year. Firm, well cooked, flaky but not falling apart with a crisp tasty coating not greasy. We finished with coffee and tiramisu. Tiramisu is a little weird for a tavern but I like it. It was really good. The servers seemed to be working the room together. All 4 working Saturday evening bounced by our table and helped out. Unexpected but well executed. The place did not feel touristy. That is also a good thing in my book. Theater district pricing- $145 for dinner with drinks, app, dessert. This was a return trip for us to this restaurant. Everything was wonderful. Had a reservation for 5 people and we were greeted promptly. Originally seated at a table that was a little small. The ambiance is nice they have a cute fireplace on the 1st floor that keeps the back of the restaurant warm. We got seated right away but then waited about 10-15 for our waiter each time. I was in the neighborhood and wanted to meet a friend at a cozy spot for a beer where we could watch the football Games. The bar immediately jumped out as it appears so cozy from the outside and indeed it is on the inside. The bar is 2 levels. I only saw the downstairs. The inside was perfectly decorated for the holidays and it was warm. The staff was immediately attentive. They had my order and drink in 3 minutes. The music is classic 80s/90s nostalgic rock. Plenty of tvs for the Monday night football game. The inside smelled clean. The French fries were plentiful and tasty. Overall a great tavern spot for a group or a casual date.
