My son was told this morning since we left a bad review of the owner, that she was gonna send the package back to sender before the last date to pickup. That seems pretty petty and like terrible customer service these days. I was wrong about needing a mask to enter the store. This is my first ever yelp review. Should tell you something if I finally felt like I needed to warn people. I went here today to have my fingerprinting updated for some state and federal licenses. I was greeted by a woman and I informed her i had an appointment for this service. She asked me where my mask was.... I told her I didn't have a mask and she told me that she would have to cancel my appointment if I didn't get one. I asked her what I needed a mask for and she looked at me like it was February/March of 2020 (it is May 20, 2025 today) and said that's a requirement to have my fingerprints taken. The best part was, she wasn't wearing a mask when she made this demand!!! (Can't make this stuff up) In all fairness, the email confirmation does say that. I figured it was a little store front place that probably hasn't updated their site in forever. No, this place knows better than the CDC, airports, doctors offices, everywhere. Covid is over. As you can see from the years of reviews, there is zero accountability, only deflection, excuses and a trail of people taking time to tell them their shortcomings. I was in a rush and decided to ship from The Boxes again even though I had a negative time there a year prior. As always, the owner is rude and complains the entire time she is packing up your shipment. They attempted to charge me about 3 times what the UPS store up the block charged me for the same item about a month prior. Also, fix your window! The Boxes is an independently owned shipping center. I recently had to ship a very large electronic item that I bought online back to sender because it was defective. Husband and wife team Greg and Michele were extremely friendly and helpful. They run a great small business. The store is welcoming and charming and there is a resident rescue dog named Sookie. They also have a nice array of gift items and cards. It's really nice to be able to buy a small gift or card in a shipping store. They have pretty much every size of box you can imagine. They estimate what is going to cost before shipping it out in the pack it for you. Small businesses like The Boxes are struggling the hardest right now. They deserve your business. I'd much rather see my hard-earned money go to the owners of a small, indie store then some big box retailer. read more

The woman who works here literally came after me with A CROWBAR. I have had a Yelp account for over a decade. Not until today have I experienced such frighteningly awful, unhinged treatment from a store proprietor. Or, frankly, from anyone. I was trying to return a pair of boots to a well-regarded Canadian manufacturer. The manufacturer sent me a prepaid waybill with clear instructions on how to package everything. I followed those instructions to a T and brought the package to The Boxes to ship via DHL. I walked into The Boxes. There was a sweet dog lying on the floor. Seeing no one at the counter, I said hello to the dog. I was then greeted by an older woman who I now assume to be one of the proprietors. To be sure, I asked her if they ship DHL packages. She said--in the curt, condescending manner that would continue throughout our brief interaction--that they do as long as they're paid for and ready to go. I informed her that my package was a return, that I had followed the manufacturer's instructions, and that the shipment was all ready to go. As I was saying this, I held the package up to show her. Before I should finish, she cut me off, continuing in her rude, derogatory tone of voice to tell me that my shipment was incorrectly packaged. I showed her where the waybill was affixed and explained that there were 3 copies of a commercial invoice in the clear plastic envelope exactly as I had received the shipment. She told me I was wrong and I, knowing very little about international shipping, assumed that she was correct. I was put off by her tone, but she seemed knowledgeable. So, I set my package down on the counter and asked her to clarify exactly what I needed to change so that the package would be accepted by DHL when I returned. She told me that I needed additional documents and that the documents needed to be in a separate envelope, not a clear plastic envelope affixed to the package. Further research and experience has shown this to be wrong, but that's not the point of this review. As she gave me this misinformation, her tone became ruder and more condescending. As someone who interacts with clients on a daily basis, I would never speak to anyone like she was speaking to me. So, before I left, I said something like, "you know, I don't really appreciate the condescending tone you've had with me since I came in." This is not something anyone wants to hear, but it was so egregious that I had to say something. She responded that she had not acted in such a manner. I told her that she had and cited how she'd cut me off and generally talked down to me. We all know the tone I'm talking about, and I can tell from reading these reviews after the fact that I'm not the only person she's treated this way. After this, I went to leave. As I go to leave, she says something to the effect of, "have fun going to Franklin Park to send your package." I stopped halfway to the door and said something along the lines of, "see, this is what I'm talking about with the rudeness." And I don't think there's anything wrong with Franklin Park. Her response was something like, "well, you don't even know how to ship a package." Sick burn. At this point, I'm at the door, where I stop and tell her that she's now insulting me and is about the rudest person I've ever met as she walks to the store. THEN, from the back of the store, she yells, "FUCK YOU." Yep. A SIXTY-SOMETHING store proprietor, in NAPERVILLE, reacted this way to being challenged on her well-known rudeness. I'd say she pretty well cemented it with that remark, but that is not the end. I stopped in the doorway astonished. I turned around and said, "fuck you? Are you kidding me? You clearly are an incredibly rude person." At this point I'm so astonished I'm laughing a bit. As I'm saying this, she comes out from the back of the store and towards me as I'm standing by the front door. In her hands is a large CROWBAR. We're not talking your garden variety household crowbar either, but a several foot long heavy-duty tool. She stopped in front of the desk about 15' away from me. I said something like, "are you kidding me?! A CROWBAR?!" She responded by saying that I am on 4 cameras and that I am threatening her. I told her that, in fact, she was the one threatening me (with a CROWBAR!), that she was on the verge of committing assault, and I was in no way threatening her as I was walking out of her store. I told her that her behavior was insane and left. When I got outside, a man was walking by. I said, still in shock, "don't ever go to that store. The woman there just threatened me with a crowbar." Seeing this, she came outside and said something else hateful. I got in my car and called my wife. She told me I should call the police. And, after all of that, she was giving me misinformation! I'll gladly drive to Franklin Park, FLORIDA to avoid this awful woman and her awful store. There is something dangerously wrong with anyone who acts like this. Appalling. read more

I sent my Amazon packages to be picked up at your Naperville location. All I did was walk in and I was met with a rude staff member who told me in a frustrated tone of voice that it was going to be a 30 minute wait. I asked if she was referring to people picking up from the Amazon Hub and she again responded in a frustrated tone, Ma'am, I have to help these people first!. I clarified that I wasn't asking to be helped now I was just asking if the wait was for everyone or people wanting a specific service. She told me that there were 3 people in front of me which I could see. I also hadn't asked initially I was just going to wait in line. I will never send packages there again nor will I use your services for any reason. I just walked in and was immediately talked to rudely without me having even said a word. When the owner (woman) finally walked out from behind the back room, she told me I only had 15 minutes, I was so startled that I asked her if she wanted me to leave. She said no but was making sure I was aware she was closing promptly at 1:00 pm. I continued to look at boxes. She told me since I bent them I owned them. I grabbed the two boxes, promptly paid my $5.00, grabbed my items I wanted to send, and walked out. I've put up with her attitude before but this was over the top. Not sure why the woman who works here is in such a sour mood all the time, but this last experience was enough to make me reconsider ever returning. I came in and patiently waited while she finished with another customer then politely greeted her. The entire interaction after that point was filled with a sort of tension and unease because of her attitude and demeanor. I wondered to myself if I had specifically done something to offend or upset her (don't know what it could have been), but reading the other reviews I am no longer surprised. Today I arrived at the store for an appointment for my wife. . The sign says the store opens at 9:00. We arrived at 9:05 and it was not opened so My wife knocked on the door only to be yelled at to wait. When the door finally opened at 9:10, She was rudely told that when you own a business you can open anytime you wish. When my I stepped in and said to let them know I didn't appreciate the way he spoke to my wife, the wife of the owner told me that they had an emergency with their dog and that she hoped someone I know dies. Then they told me that my wife's appointment was cancelled. Classy. Real classy. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. If it was possible to leave negative stars I would have. I witnessed one of the rudest and most condescending behaviors towards a customer. They do these employment verifications (I-9), and I was waiting in line (I'm a woman of color and the only one at that time in that store) for the same. Btw, they have a sweet dog that lies at the door (it is a huge one, though). As I was about to get in line for my appointment, this dog started walking towards the side where I was standing. So, I was a bit tensed and asked," Whose dog, is it? Is it going to walk here up to me"? The lady owner said, yes, this dog is ours, and it works here. Then started giving a treat to the dog. She said all it wants is a treat. However, the man who was at the counter to do the verification just yelled, " It is my dog; you can leave if you don't like it." I mentioned I have no problem with the dog being there, just scared if it would come and stand next to me. The man continued to yell at me, saying he doesn't care what I feel and how I feel and should walk out. He was so rude and unprofessional that my legs started to shiver. However, I did not respond or answer back then because I was not sure if they would harm me in any other way if I did. He was aggressive, racist, and plain rude. Even when the lady owner told him to stop, he continued to do the same thing, and finally, I walked away. I have never seen such horrible treatment for something as simple as this. All he could have said was this was a sweet dog and made me comfortable. I have had an experience of being mauled by dogs, and hence, it was a bit uncomfortable to be around a big dog (however much I love animals). I should have been more worried about the owners' behavior there than that sweet dog. Well, lessons for life. I would never step in there, and hopefully, I don't need any more verifications there! Believe me, I had no problem with any of it as long as the dog was sitting there. Once it started walking is when I asked. I also did not know they had a dog there as I registered through my verification portal with this location. I chose this place because it was the closest to my zipcode. I have never posted a negative review.I never do too. If my experiences aren't that good, I leave it at it. But this was an exception. I HAD to write it here. We have a commercial Box, there for close to 10-years... before Michelle moved to this new store-front. Although we travel international quite a bit... lately the few times arriving to pick-up are meet with awful vibes. To mention how this service that was once very professional, but has transformed completely over the last 6-months 2018. It's become a dreadful thought having to enter this place to pick-up mail. We have several PO Box locations and never before have our packages been return to sender... however, without notice Michelle and Husband, the owners, decided to begin do so in 2018. In fact, the horrible attitude directed at me about having to hold onto a 12 inch, by 12 inch paper package is more then concerning. Odd to say the least. We decided as an effort to maintain peace with this unfriendly energy... not to have any packages sent to this particular box, instead sent them to another establishment. Just today, we got word that a package was mistakenly sent to the Old PO BOX... Darth Vader's establishment. As soon as we got word, a email was sent requesting to return this 12-by-12 inch package to sender. Simple request , yes? Not according to Michelle who only now states the once they accepted any package it can not be returned to sender. Whooaa... we have proof that this is exactly what they did on Sept 11, 2018. Additionally...to add to this odd and unprofessional behavior, this email outlined how a $7-dollar a day storage fee is being access for the 12-by-12 inch soft package they refuse to send back to sender. It's clear there may be some very-personal problems effecting the behavior of the owners. As I have never encountered an owner yelling at a customer as done to me when asking about the exact date the package in Sept 2018 was returned back to Santa Monica containing a 1,500$ item in which they disconnected themselves of any responsibility. According to the email response, the owners are stating that a daily fee, per outlined in an agreement. There's one problem... this daily fee was never assess before. While the yearly Box rental payments have been paid each year over the phone...last payment 2018 was accepted without explaining and giving ample notification how new charges would be access on packages. How this is done should follow IL state consumer law which trumps, corporate law if a company is operating in the state of Illinois. Now we're looking for a path of least resistance; but prepared to take this matter through any means available if we are further harmed by this irrational behavior. We don't feel too bad after seeing the number of negative reviews... now realizing this negative energy is not directed singly at us. read more

The lady who runs the place is one of the most difficult, unnerving, and unfriendly people I've ever met in a customer service environment. Her husband clearly works for her because once she says something crass - and she usually does - he just keeps his mouth shut. She's ripped open a package of mine out of refusal to mail said package for me, she's yelled at me, and her attitude is just downright disgusting. If you hate your job and life that much that you feel the need to treat the few people like crap who are keeping your feeble business open, maybe you should reconsider your direction in life altogether. If you can stand the post office, your experience will be exponentially better - that much I can guarantee. Even my worst USPS nightmare could never hold a candle to what I've endured at this terrifying establishment. I waited to post this review because I felt bad (at first) about possibly bad mouthing a small, seemingly family-owned business. Upon viewing the other reviews, however, I now realize that my feelings are shared by others and I was not imagining things. My partner and I have used the services of The Boxes many, many times and he was always commenting on how he hated going there because the owner (female) was so extremely rude and made him feel uncomfortable. I witnessed this rudeness in full force recently when we visited the location together recently. It's a shame that someone who chooses to own a business in a community feels the need to meet customers with such an attitude right from the start. We often try to support local businesses above the big box stores but we will not be returning and, based on what I'm seeing of others' experiences with this woman, I'd encourage you to avoid this place as well. read more

My family and I have been going to The Boxes for years. Other places may be cheaper but the convenience of this location works best for us. Plus, we love coming in to see that sweet dog and have honestly never had a bad experience here (yes, sometimes there can be a bit of a wait but that can happen anywhere). I've read some of the other reviews about the owners attitude--she, or any of the employees there for that matter, have never been rude to me. I can understand maybe her tone can be taken in the wrong way but I've never felt that it was directed towards me. read more
