What a find! The Root Cafe is the kind of place that makes me grateful for Yelp reviewers. The…read morerestaurant is committed to sourcing its ingredients locally and is known to be a 'farm to table' restaurant. Traveling through a Little Rock for work, my group decided to grab breakfast before flying out. We came in due to the raving reviews from a multitude of online sources and they did not disappoint. I ordered the Root Benny and the blueberry muffin based on the host's recommendation. First cut into my poached egg and I already knew it was the start of a culinary journey. Absolute flavor and texture perfection. The seasonal greens (steamed kale?) paired so well with the greens and the crostini was the perfect vehicle for yolk dipping. The blueberry muffin was small but delicious--exactly what you should expect from a muffin. I wish I would've remembered to order the cookies to go. I suppose I'll have to come back.

They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a menu that features a fresh and healthier take on classic southern food. I really enjoyed the spicy tofu bowl with grits and collared greens, their homemade cornbread, and strawberry shortcake for dessert! I also liked their arancini which was on the specials menu. Their classic lemonade was delicious, and the perfect complement to my meal. I'd highly recommend The Root Cafe for a memorable meal!

After trying to catch them open a couple of times previously, the stars finally aligned and I got…read moreto try Smashed & Stacked today. They are in the middle of transitioning from their food truck roots to a permanent brick-and-mortar location. While the space is still actively under construction, the hustle here is real. The fact that this small crew of friends is slinging fresh food takeout-style while simultaneously building out their future restaurant is impressive. I grabbed their lunch special, and coming in at just $11.06 after tax, it might just be the best value lunch in town. Finding a fresh burger, hand-cut fries, and a drink for $11 in today's economy is practically unheard of. From ordering to walkout took only about 20 minutes, which is remarkably quick given the setup and the dedication going into every order. Now for the food: The Original Burger (with Swiss substituted for cheddar): Absolute home run. The patty is infused with actual chunks of bacon, every bite was hot, juicy, and packed with flavor. Freshly cooked on the flat-top, it hit the mark on just about every level. The Fries: Near perfection. Seasoned generously with seasoned salt, you get a great mix of super crispy edges with just enough softer bites to keep the texture interesting. Even with drywall dust in the air and a temporary takeout-only setup, they did almost everything right. Smashed & Stacked easily earns a strong 4 stars today, and once this brick-and-mortar is fully finished and fired up, the rest of the hamburger scene in Little Rock better watch out. Skip the corporate chains and come support these guys!

The restaurant was fairly clean but did notice a few crumbs on the floor more than likely after effects from a very busy morning. We had biscuits and gravy and a sausage egg and cheese biscuit with home fries and a side of gravy all very delicious. The son and I were getting hungry and the large mural for this restaurant caught our eye. We said…read morelet's give it a shot! We walked in to a large employee meeting they were having at tables near the registers. This felt strange as only a couple people were actually working and there was a manager talking to the entire staff that this or that can get you fired. Finally someone who was actually working took our order as he darted back and forth from kitchen to register. It's obvious there is no employee lounge but there has to be a better way to conduct meetings and communicate within the staff. We were never given a number or anything so we waited at the registers for quite a while after ordering. We finally saw him bring food to another couple who had been waiting since we walked and figured out, oh we sit and they bring it out. It would not have been hard for the employee to let us know we could sit. There was nothing ultimate about the ultimate chicken sandwich. Didn't even come with tomato and they forgot the lettuce. It was dry and bland. I reached for a napkin and there were none to be found in the dispenser. (I just grabbed a dispenser from another table easy enough) My son's cheeseburger was fine according to him but we both agreed the fries were awful. Barely warm at the start of the meal and cold and stale by the end of it, the shoestring fries were as edible as an actual shoe. Nothing remarkable about the steamed broccoli no seasoning to be found but at least it was in fact, real steamed broccoli, even though it didn't come out until we were halfway through our dinner. 3/4 into the meal a manager named Jasmine came to ask how things were and pleaded for honesty. She was absolutely fantastic and provided top tier customer service as she listened to me and did everything she could to make it right, including treating my son and I to very tasty milkshakes. This woman deserves a raise, I could tell she was sincere and cares about customers and the food. The menu is so large and the prices are fair, I may come back to try it again, but ONLY because of the 5 star service I got from Jasmine.
