Their menu is considered modern Australian with an Italian flair, which is an interesting fusion of cuisines. They have tapas, entrees (appetizer size), mains (larger portions) and sides, which can be shared amongst the table or paired with a main to make for a more filling meal. + GRILLED TASMANIAN OCTOPUS (A$28): The four of us shared this and it turned out to be a tantalizing appetizer! Three meaty tentacles and one flat piece were served on top of n'duja (spreadable pork sausage) with pipes of lime confit on the side. This was my first time having n'duja, which had a smoky flavor from Calabrian chilis that paired well with the grilled taste of the tender octopus. The lime brightened up the dish with citrusy notes. + SEAWEED PRAWN PILLOWS (A$22): While tasty, if I tasted these blindly, I probably wouldn't think of shrimp and seaweed being the two main ingredients. The shrimp and seaweed were finely minced and made into a batter which was then fried into a fritter. They were crispy and light with a soft mochi-like texture inside. Salt on the plate enhanced the flavor even more. + SNAPPER FILLET (A$44): The snapper was delicate, moist and had a wonderfully seared skin. It came topped with a few zucchini blossoms, but that was the extent of the dish, so I'd recommend ordering a side with this. It was placed on a pool of creamy white sauce (which may have incorporated Jerusalem artichoke as noted on the menu) and dollops of black garlic sauce came on top. Unfortunately, I didn't care for the black garlic which had a very earthy flavor that I found too strong and off-putting for the mild fish. The four of us shared a side of BROCCOLINI (A$14) which was a great pairing with all of our mains. It tasted super fresh since the stems still had a nice snap to them. They were simply tossed with extra virgin olive oil, sliced almonds and chili for a hint of heat. My dad enjoyed their spatchcocked chicken and my sister was happy with her sirloin steak. David knows his stuff, and certainly knows his meats. We took his advice and went for a 400g dry aged steak, served with fries and salad. The steak was incredible and cooked to our request. Having just returned from Argentina, we feel that we do know our steaks. We would certainly recommend a visit here for their meat. Top this off with a glass of red and you're set. We couldn't go past seafood on this visit, given we were at a beachside location. We ordered tuna tataki, so fresh and accompanied by a wasabi aioli and soy. The scallops were perfectly cooked, and the kingfish was so fresh and beautifully presented on a salt slab, marinated with lemon and lime, olive oil, chilli, capsicum, coriander and chives. The seafood here is quality and certainly a must and there's even a seafood platter that would be a great option for sharing. The menu is one of the biggest you'll find, not only in size, but the amount of menu options. Oysters to small bites, both hot and cold including a few dishes reflective of the owners' South African heritage. There are plenty of pastas, burgers, ribs and side salads to select from. There's also vegetarian options for those that prefer this. Steak though, is their specialty, as you enter you can see their aged locker of the beef options, and you can have fillet or sirloin on the bone, rib eye or a T-bone. You can read about the suppliers of this quality steak in the back of their menu. Sharon is possibly one of the best front of house managers we've met. She is so kind and welcoming and we really appreciated her hospitality. You can tell her experienced with the first greeting. There are some large and private areas too, so you could certainly hire this out for a party.
