Absolutely love a mom n pop book shop and this place is so cute! Tons of great books, small gifts, crafty handmade cards and more.

There is such a huge variety of books to choose from, my go-to's are the thriller/suspense and self-help sections. They also have children's, cooking, young adult, and history sections and even CDs and puzzles! I always find such great books for a steal ranging from $1-$5. Folks are always dropping off donations daily so you'll definitely find something and if not, check again in a week. They only take cash or checks but can place books on hold for a week, if you're like me and often forget to keep cash with you. I would also recommend bringing a bag or tote to carry out all your new goodies if you're an avid reader. I just want to say a huge thank you to the amazing staff and volunteers that work so hard to sort through the donations and keep the shelves rotating and full. - JB *HOT TIP: don't skip past the cart outside, these books are heavily discounted.

GETTING HERE: Barnes & Noble is located really close to the 101 freeway in Ventura. You can access…read moreit from several directions as it's at Main and Telephone Roads. You can look for the Michaels and Sprouts and you'll be a hop, skip, and a jump from all the boooks! REVIEW: Bumping up to 4 starts because for the years and years I have been coming to BN, even before shut down, they are always fully stocked with books and other items. I love it here! I can easily spend 2 hours here perusing the aisles of all the goodness BN carries. (I just recently came for some Harry Potter merch and a planner for next year.) Service is not what it was once was, sadly. But I am old so I remember the good ole' days with fondness. Today, it's basic enough. Thankfully, one doesn't get screamed at across the store of "Welcome!" as it happens in other businesses. Most employees I saw were behind the registers when I was looking around. I did see one employee on the floor, but she was laser focused on something. Prices are on the higher side, thanks to the current state of the economy. However, I feel that the books and other items are of good enough quality to somewhat warrant the $. Be sure to check out upstairs. Also, just a thought, grab a snack or one of the Starb cookies on your way out. It's OK. It's good. It's books. It's BN. :)

I hadn't been there in a couple of years and I was so impressed by the amount of options there. I liked the fact that they have a section for an every book genres. I was looking around when an employee asked if I needed help, which was nice because she gave me a lot of recommendations based on what type of books I usually read. I do have to say that the books here are a little more expensive than in Amazon, but it was a lot funner looking at all the options. You don't get to physically see the books online. They also have a coffee shop and a section for children.

In today's world…read more... There is so much loss of the true Arts. Yeah, Everything and I mean Everything is getting replaced by the latest technology and at a very rapid rate. But the worst thing in my humble opinion.... And Trust me, I don't even want to say it... But a little thing called A.I. that is really shaping our future and personally I think it's making those that use it less prone to using their actual brain to even think. And it's not just the Arts, but almost every facet of our lives. Think about it... Cell Phones have replaced landlines. Emails have replaced hand written letters. A simple text message has replaced a heartfelt thank you card. Kindles are slowly replacing paperback books. And now A.I. technology is starting to replace humans in the workplace. I mean.... Did everyone forget what the Terminator & Sarah Connor warned us about? That on August 4th (that's tomorrow by the way, or TODAY since you are probably reading this NOW!!) "Skynet goes online and starts to learn at a geometric rate..." And then at 2:14 a.m. Eastern Time on August 29th the System Becomes Self Aware! Judgement. Day. People!!! What's next, the Kindles will be replaced by Audio Books and we won't even have to read anymore. Someone will just read to us?? Oh wait..... Well thankfully, the Art of Reading, on your own, not on a screen, or read to you by a voice actor while you commute to work, can still be done on real tangible books. Whether paperback or hardcover, thanks to bookstores like Barnes & Noble, this form of Art is here to stay... well, for now! Yes, 2 floors, top to bottom with all things books. History, Fiction, Autobiographies, Non-Fiction, Self-Help, Cooking, Gardening, True Crime, Romance, Fantasy; you name it, they've got it! Organized by category and sub-categories, B&N is your place to come be a bookworm and get lost in the world of literature. A place where hopefully A.I. doesn't replace that knowledgeable Barnes & Noble worker who can point you in the direction of the newest Sarah J Mass Romantasy book you're looking for. A place where A.I. hopefully doesn't replace that kind cashier who you have a sincere conversation with as you are checking out. A place where NO JUDGEMENT DAY can be passed upon you for bringing a basket full of enemies-to-lovers books to the checkout stand... Nope, no judgement here! But like Sarah Connor, it's up to us to keep this Art Alive. Don't let (Skynet) aka A.I. become self aware and take over our brains, our books, or our lives. Keep Reading. Keep Learning. Keep buying Books.
