A small but mighty bookstore. After years of driving by this spot, what finally brought me in was seeing them on social media. I stumbled upon a post they did which was in solidarity with a group of people and seeing that our values were aligned I knew this was a local small business that I needed to be supporting from here on out. I came midweek to shop and look around, and I had a great experience. It's a smaller bookstore, but they did have a lot to choose from! I was especially happy to see that they keep up with new and trending authors/books that come out. But of course, they also had a broad selection of every type of book you could think of. Being a smaller independent bookstore they don't have mass quantity though so if you find a book you like you should grab it because they only have a copy or two of each. I found that the pricing was comparable to anywhere else but again when you shop here you're supporting local small businesses so even if it was a little pricier, it would be worth it to me. They had a cute child's/kids section in the back so it would definitely be a great place to bring your little one to look around or read a story. The vibes are welcoming, but I also appreciate when staff leave you to look around without standing over your shoulder. The gal working behind the register was super nice and checked me out with quickness, that I was in and out without issue. Nice people work here, they have a decent selection and overall it was a cute little shop that I will be back to support again soon. read more

Do your self a favor and come here before you go to a big chain store. This bookstore is small, but they have a lot of different books that are both popular and not so popular. They also have classic books. The person behind the desk was extremely helpful and extremely nice. She had some great insights on some books that she thought I or my daughter would like. she didn't have some of the books I wanted but she said she would be able to order for me, but I'm not from the area so I wasn't able to do that but I will definitely be giving Her a call the next time I know I will be in town so that she could have the books that I want or need there when I arrive I absolutely adore this shop. I was able to find a few books and for the price. It was amazing support your local businesses. This one is definitely one that you want to support, especially if you are a book lover. read more

I was amazed at the number of children's books. I'll be coming back for my child. I cannot speak for the value of the books. Only bought one book. They are very nice! Lovely bookstore. Very well organized. It's a small shop that has a great selection of books. The staff was kind and we talked about great bookstores to go to around LA and Pasadena. The book prices were industry standard because they were new books. Also, they had a really cool board on their wall that would come up with different quotes. It was quite mesmerizing. I cannot say enough good things about The Bookworm. I buy all of our books there and avoid using online sources. Just recently I called Julie the owner and asked her to find a book for me. She found it in hardback and it was an older version, we ordered it. About 30 minutes later Julie called me back after she researched and found an updated version. Julie gave me the option to order either or both. She really cares and clearly shows me every time I order or look for a book. She has helped me countless times to find great YA books. I think the kids section takes up half of the store, although the store is fairly small. Collection for YA is slightly limited and recently published books (depending on popularity) might be hard to come by. But they also have a warehouse that they can check for you. Happened upon this bookstore on my lunch break and decided to just walk in and see what they have. I was pleasantly surprised by how many books they had! It was such a nice, cozy, little store. The owner, Julie, along with the other lady working there were so friendly!! Julie asked what type of books I'm interested in, then offered a suggestion that I ended up buying. They have so maybe options and a large children's section, as well. They let me know that they offer gift wrapping, and they could even order books that you're looking for but don't see in store. Great service ladies, and I enjoyed chatting about some great books. I will 100% be back and buy my books from there. Several months ago I went to the Bookworm with my grandson to buy a book. A lady that worked there showed me the section in the store appropriate for 9 year olds. He picked out the book called Odd 1's Out by James Rallison. A few nights later my daughter called me and said he was talking about STD's at the dinner table. I was shocked because I had trusted the lady at the bookstore. Today I went back to the bookstore and explained to Julie ( the owner) what had happened. I suggested that she remove these books from her store. She had no response. Apparently it's more important to her to make money than care about our youth. Such a magical bookstore! When I was a kid we used to go to the original location in Old Town Camarillo to get books for school (and fun!). I'm so thrilled that the next owners have carried on what was great about this Camarillo institution. They have a fantastic array of children's and YA literature, and even carry a delightfully curated section of adult fiction and non-fiction books. The store isn't big but you will be amazed at the variety! There's a cozy, warm feeling about the place. If you're giving a gift, they'll even gift wrap it beautifully for you. OMG. I have lived in Camarillo my whole life. Today was the first time I have ever stepped foot into this book store. My cup runneth over!!! I got a few books for my son who is due to be born any day now, a friends baby as well as my nieces. I am excited for my husband to get off of work to tell him about the local GEM of a store. There are books for adults as well. We much rather support local then go online to to big name stores. I also spoke with the two gals working. I believe one was the owner. They were both very helpful and made me feel right at home. I will be a new regular customer. Cant wait to join them for story time!! read more

I ordered books over the phone for my grandmother who needs some books during social distancing. A very easy pick up process and felt very safe; gloves and masks were used while handling books. Based on the reviews, I had no idea whether this was a children's bookstore or if it had grownup books too. We decided to check it out since it had such rave reviews and I'm so glad we did! For the record, there are books for adults AND children. The store is pretty small but it is well curated. Mrs. Fig knows her books! She made several wonderful recommendations, shared some fun stories about authors and Camarillo, and I even went home with two books! Totally sold. If we had Mrs. Fig's back home I would probably read A LOT more. She's the warmest, smartest, awesomest bookstore owner I have ever met. I miss her already :( I'll be back the next time I'm in town! I love this bookstore. It reminds me of the little book store in beauty and the beast that belle goes into, only with way more stuff. The lady that owns this place has been there forever, and is really helpful. They have so many books, and they always make sure to stalk up on the ones kids need for school. Their prices are good, and their location is super easy to get to. The store isn't very big so you have to look for it, but once you find it, its like stepping into a different world. Salvation for the avid reader! With book stores closing left and right, those of us who still enjoy books printed on paper (as opposed to the e-variety) this place is a haven. Great selection of the classics (literary masters and the canonical writers)! Also, a great place to go for children's books, board books as well as paper.
