I reserved this place days in advance for a romantic brunch prior to a proposal, noting such in the reservation and requesting flowers. They responded via text saying they got the request and would do so. They later asked if I could come in an hour earlier which I agreed to do. The location itself is beautiful, as is the setting. However, upon arriving, they were preparing for some other event and already clearing tables. Upon being seated we were told the kitchen was closing and that we would have to order quickly. The server was brusk and ill informed, not knowing the seasonal drinks and rushing through the special. Flowers at the table were wilted, despite fresh roses being at other tables. While the waiter later said he didn't know we had a reservation and said we could have more time, the attitude and treatment was abhorrent, particularly for the high prices and subpar food. I was here for a birthday party on a Tuesday night @6pm. Im not from NY so finding a spot like this, tucked away in a park area, AND with free parking?! Jackpot. Its a cute venue, well decorated, modern vibe. We had the room that held 40 guests. The food was buffet. We had french bread & butter, salad, chicken, rice, and bowtie pasta. We ended up here super randomly after visiting the Met Cloisters, we took a city bus from there, got dropped off at some random park, and while walking around, we stumbled upon this cute little restaurant for lunch. There was only one guy running the whole place, seating people, taking orders, bringing out food, and even helping in the kitchen. He was working so hard. The outdoor seating looked nice but was full, so we sat inside near some open doors with a lovely view of the gardens very peaceful and forest-y. Service was understandably slow, but honestly, it wasn't his fault. They're definitely short-staffed and could use more help, it's a lot for one person to handle everything. The food was tasty, I had the burrata with pesto, and it hit the spot. The server was also really kind, my phone was almost dead, and he let me charge it with their charger, which totally saved the day since we still had a lot of sightseeing ahead. It looks like they also have a small café downstairs, which we didn't get to check out but looked cozy. I have been to this restaurant 3x and each time it has had the same problem. The confused service wrecks the charming ambiance. The first visit was in the winter and we were the only guests but it took the server 25 minutes to take our order, the second visit was in the spring and the server messed up our simple order for a two top (also not crowded then) and the last visit was truly the last. The server messed up the drink order 2x and the server was easily confused but didn't write anything down or use a tablet. It is a shame because I am a pretty happy customer that loves supporting unique restaurants like this one. I hope they take this feedback to train the staff better. last note: the bathroom trash was in a tiny can and overflowing. It would be easily solved with a bigger trash can. read more

I made a reservation for Saturday, May 30 through Resy three days in advance for Bonnefont Restaurant in Fort Tryon Park to celebrate a birthday. On the way there, we were delayed by unexpected traffic caused by a nearby apartment fire. As soon as I realized we would be late, I called the restaurant. After four attempts, someone finally answered with a simple "Hello," rather than identifying the restaurant. I explained that we would be about 15 minutes late and was told that would be "no problem." We arrived at 8:20 p.m., approximately 20 minutes after our reservation time. No one acknowledged our presence when we entered. After we decided to leave, someone came outside and informed us that because we were 20 minutes late versus 15 minutes, the chef had closed the kitchen, although they would "try to convince him" to reopen it. When I pointed out that both Resy and the restaurant's website listed a 9:00 p.m. closing time, I was told those hours had been outdated for more than a year. Despite having a reservation and calling ahead to notify the restaurant of our delay, we were unable to dine there. We ended up making a last-minute reservation at another nearby restaurant that seemed much happier to have our business. Bonnefont may serve excellent food, but hospitality is about more than what's on the plate. We arrived with a reservation, called ahead when circumstances delayed us, and still left feeling unwelcome. Unfortunately, the service fell far short of expectations. read more

Just want to give a shout out to The Bonnefont in Fort Tryon Park. We were there yesterday for a celebration brunch and I've been for dinner a couple of times and always had good food and service. If you haven't been, the ambience is lovely...see photos. They are not busy, however, and I'm afraid they will not be able to stay open unless there's more business - so if you haven't gone yet - please try it. Great place for a celebration, but also for a drink at the bar or a good meal anytime. Even though we made reservations, we still had to wait for our table to be prepared. Indoors is also very dark. Service: 4/10 Service is slow. If you like to take your time and enjoy listening to birds chirping, then you might enjoy this spot. We put an order for our drinks but then had to wait a few more minutes to put our food order in. We basically waited one hour for our food to come (not exaggerating). I had to wave my arms multiple times to get attention from the staff. You will not be checked on frequently. Food: 8/10 Food was just enough, and delicious. But nothing outstanding. We went for weekend brunch. The Butternut Squash Gratin (not pictured), was our favorite dish. Eggs Benedict was as good as expected, but the potatoes could've been cooked a little longer and seasoned more. My mom ordered a pressed coffee that was large enough to share for 2 people. My friend and I stumbled upon this place one evening. When we got there they told us the kitchen had just closed because it was a slower night but they decided to open the kitchen back up just for us. The ambiance of the restaurant is amazing. We had an amazing experience at The Bonnefont last night--our first "date night" since welcoming a baby and it was a wonderful evening out. The ambiance is really nice, with thoughtful details and great music. The food is truly exceptional--we started with the charcuterie platter which had an amazing assortment of meat and was presented really beautifully. I had the mussels as a main dish which came as a huge portion with lots of crispy garlic bread. My husband had the beef and we shared a chocolate soufflé dessert. The service was also spot on--the bartender suggested a drink and introduced my cocktail connoisseur husband to the white negroni, which he loved. He and our server were friendly and attentive throughout the evening. A very festive and celebratory evening out in a magical location. Highly recommend and glad to see the spirit of the Pandering Pig (another gem) lives on here. read more

After a lovely visit at the Cloisters, my wife and good friends decided we should get something to eat. The Bonnefont is a short walk from the Cloisters, so we decided to try it out. We were quickly greeted by the host and seated immediately. This was the last quick thing that happened during our "dining" experience. After being seated for a while, and chatting with our good friends, our stomachs started to grumble and we realized that nobody had come to take our order. My friend stopped one of the waitresses and asked her if she could be our waitress. She said she could be if we were ready to order. She did return shortly to take our orders. We ordered a pastry with fruit, which we all shared. It was pretty good. Our oh-so-complex order was two frittatas, one without cream cheese, a florentine eggs benedict and a savory crepe. Apparently, the kitchen needed to go out, find a chicken to impregnate and wait for the eggs to hatch and for the chick to grow, so I could have the chicken that was part of my crepe. Thank goodness none of us has diabetes, because I am not sure we could have possibly regulated our sugar levels given how long it took for our food to find its way to us. We asked a couple of times where our food was, and I get the strong feeling until that happened, they must have had a restaurant-wide pool,over how long our table would wait before losing it. Finally, after solving world hunger, but not ours, the food arrived. The no cream cheese frittata - you might find this hard to believe - had cream cheese in it. The florentine eggs Benedict had still frozen spinach on it plus a hard boiled poached egg. Shocking, isn't it? We did have several members of the staff come by and ask how everything was. I guess they couldn't be sure after we told the waitress about the wrong order and frozen spinach. They did offer us some vanilla gelato, but we didn't want to miss the whole summer waiting for it. At least they didn't charge us for the one frittata. My friends did say their frittatas were pretty good. The chicken in my crepe was over done and you already know about the eggs Benedict. And to top it all off, apparently the ladies room had the trifecta: dirty, no paper towels or any other way to dry your hands and an over flowing trash can. Tucked out of the way in Fort Tryon Park, one has to seek them out in order to experience the really Lovely room and the extraordinary food: please do.
