I have received seated chair massages from Alan at my corporate offices for so many years, I don't remember how long it has been. I would go regularly, and then when I got pregnant, I would go weekly. I have exceedingly tight shoulders and upper back and find this regular maintenance so helpful to keep me from being in regular pain. Cannot wait for post-pandemic massage. Alan gives great therapeutic deep tissue massages. He is good about focusing on the areas of need and helping to massage, stretch, and revitalize aches and pains from fatigue, sports, or injury. All I can say is Maia from Odenton who had the bad experience must be a competitor's wife or something. Alan just dropped everything - including changing carpool for his daughter - to squeeze me in when I had a sports injury and really needed support. He is an excellent technical masseuse with incredible knowledge of muscle recovery and does great work for athletes in particular. His prices are fair and he is also a great guy. I cannot say enough about his work ethic, bedside manner and overall skill! read more

I received a gift certificate to Body Mechanix (Alan Stein) and thought I had used it a long time ago--turns out I had not. I called to make an appointment but we missed each other so he gave me his e-mail and we booked it online. Parking was fairly easy and I got there early. Alan sat me down before my 1 hour massage and talked to me for a few minutes about what I was looking for. No unnecessary paperwork, just direct information. The session lasted over 1 hour (normally people try to finish it early and use talking time as part of the hour). The massage was excellent and I would love to return again. The only thing stopping me is the price. While $95 is probably fair and reasonable, it is just not in my budget for monthly massages. However, you do get what you pay for as the massage was quality! read more

Alan is great! i have serious neck pain pretty often and have been now about 4 times and it always helps so much. This is not a spa setting but his office is very clean and comfy. He is very professional and definitely gives the best massage i have ever had. I think the rates are very reasonable for DC- and it looks like there is a deal through yelp. There is street parking but it is also directly off the Tenleytown metro. You do need to remember to bring cash as he doesn't take credit cards. read more

Alan is superb - he comes to my office every other week to offer chair massages, and I attempt to take advantage as much as possible for my 1 hour session. He has 'magical' hands - all the stress and pain issues are gone from my body after each session. Alan was hired last minute (unnamed company/person that was scheduled canceled with less than a week's notice) for staff/administration appreciation week. The staff here each got a 10 minute massage. As I didn't book him, I have no idea what his rates are, but I'm letting HR know that he's worth every penny! Everyone I've talked to so far says he's the best we've had at our office (they do this for us every year). He gave each person a 10-minute chair massage, and everyone is walking around with huge smiles. Very professional and courteous; very relaxing music. I was broken before visiting Alan on Friday. Week-end stress, tension and also some exercise-induced muscular pain, especially in my legs and upper back. When I walked out an hour later, I felt like a new person. It was hands-down the best massage I've ever had. He doesn't miss a spot. Put simply, Al Stein of the Body Mechanix is the best I've found in DC. His practice is professional. When I show up it's usually because I'm in pain, so I come looking for a deep therapeutic massage. He listens carefully to my particular needs of the session and then proceded to work out the pains in my neck, shoulders, back, arms, forehead, elbows - hey, I didn't even know I had pain in my eldows! Alan knows his stuff - the technical and the interpersonal. He's considerate of my time constraints and always does his best to accomodate my busy schedule. He's got a friendly, pleasant, and relaxed personality that sets the right tone. His studio is clean, warmly lit, near the metro and parking. And bottom line... he gives a damn good massage!
