First, the setting. What a delightful interior once you get past the rather understated exterior. Comfortable spaces, open, airy, not loud but full of sounds of people enjoying themselves. Second, the service. They are on it, immediately. But you never feel rushed. Instead, you feel welcome and valued. Third, the food. I the relish tray--once a mainstay of Montana steakhouses. But this one has hot, creamy cheese dip. And beets! (Well it is eastern Montana). The steaks? Just one of the top 3 New York strips that I have ever savored. PERFECTLY cooked and so so tender. Unbelievably good. Also loved you can have hashbrowns as a side. And my friend loved the rolls plus the halibut. Drinks? Certainly. A decent wine list. Lots of local brews. And well balanced cocktails. Quality is top notch, the quantity is there. The prices are fair, considering everything. What a place!!

The first night I had the fried deviled eggs (excellent) and the Herb Charbroiled Chicken equally as excellent minus the green beans. They were pretty much raw. That was the only hiccup. The service that night was amazing. The second night it was a bit of an issue that I wanted a table vs sitting at the bar as a single person. The wait staff was in a horrible mood. Thankfully the food was much better than the attitudes. That chop salad was in top three best salads I've ever eaten. (I grabbed one to go the following day.) The burger was fine. The mashed potatoes were not good and honestly tasted like instant potatoes and not good ones. Over all it is a bit pricey but you are paying for a quality of food. Definitely check it out if you are in the area.

Upon waking in, it was unclear whether we were supposed to go to the counter or sit down and order, so we went to the counter. No one greeted us. A lady was there to take our order, so I asked her for a menu. Then she asked if we were eating in and when we said yes, she gave us a single menu and told us to sit wherever. The menu is VAST with lots of options. I went with the pastrami sandwich and a baked potato, both of which were tasty other than the thick rye bread on my sandwich. The single star is taken off due to the bread and the confusion and lack of professionalism in the restaurant. I would definitely stop by again though now that we know the protocol.

Consistency, quality, and service have been at fault every time. Today, through DoorDash, out of an order of 2 uncomplicated food items and 1 drink: 1 food item was completely missing upon delivery, the second had undercooked meat, and the espresso tasted like dishwater (very poor roaster choice, if it is true espresso at all and not simply storebought grounds). It is true- Havre is rural and small, but that does not mean this population is lacking in world experiences, sophistication, or deserves less than a larger place. Unsure if the owners are not properly training the staff or simply don't care, but this type of negative business practice will not keep doors open. There were no managers on the clock today to receive this feedback in person, and the employee on shift did not appear vested in passing this message along, hence the resulting public review. Havre could "have it," and once had it, but that spirit needs and deserves to make a comeback- perhaps starting with this establishment.

The BBQ honey pork is the best I've had in years and is the quality I'd expect in a sit down restaurant. The blueberry turnovers are flaky, buttery, and perfect. They are perfectly loaded with filling. The owner (very friendly guy btw) doesn't skimp on filling and he made the best turnover I've ever had even across multiple states. Frankly there wasn't a single bad thing I had and we even got strawberry cinnamon rolls and donuts to go.
