Amazing service and food to match! There isn't a better cup of coffee in Neston or anywhere nearby.

I've always loved the original Elephant Coffee Shop in the town where my family now live. As of yet…read moreuntouched by the coffee chains (save for a Costa Express in the big Sainsburys) it's great to see that there is space for the independent coffee shop in these country villages. So when the company decided to open another coffee bar in the next village down, of course we all had to go and check it out! This place is a bit bigger than its counterpart - gorgeous location situated on a road right by the front, in the summer I can totally see people ordering coffee and sitting outside to drink in the view across to nearby Wales. In slightly chillier spring though, we sat inside - although the sun did come out as we left, so I imagine that the back area could turn into a bit of a sun trap. There were already some families out there with their dogs (since it's an animal friendly area), very comfortable and quaint! The coffee is a mild roast, but with a really nice deep nutty flavour, I almost prefer it to Starbucks! (This is actually quite a big deal to me, I know how many people hate the company but I CANNOT get enough of Starbucks coffee!). The decor is stripped back - exposed wooden walls and pipework visible in the ceilings gives the shop a cool, slightly industrial feel to it. Obviously done to appeal to a younger clientele, the premise also stays open later as a bar to attract some nightlife later in the evening. Definitely have to pop down to check that out when I'm back!

There is a great intellectual atmosphere within this bookshop, one unrivalled by larger chain stores such as Borders and Waterstones. It's as though all the staff have been vetted for their intelligence and knowledge before being allowed on the shop floor, rather than just handed a job because they're prepared to work for minimum wage. Linghams has been in Heswall over 20 years and continues to thrive as the local community support the store! They have a great little cafe serving homemade delicacies towards the back of the store, and they can order any book with an ISBN number. The only problem is, you'll probably find any book that they sell much cheaper on the internet. I guess that's why even the bigger bookshops are in decline. Long live Linghams! They have all the sections you'd expect to see in a huge book store!

This particular Linghams has a very nice café in the back. I was really impressed by the layout and style of the café. It looks very homey, yet posh with dark wood round tables and a long bar, behind which are arranged all sorts of yummy looking teas, coffees, and even some potted jams for sale if I remember correctly. There is a great children's area which includes some small toys and plushies for sale as well as books, and I really like the local books section, as well as the poetry section as you will find some local authors in both including poetry chapbooks. Great shop.

Sitting outside in the sun surrounded by luscious greenery it really is a delightful dining atmosphere. Even the rest of the year on a pleasent day the heated patio exterior is more than hospitable. On a cricketing trip to the wirral, I remember dipping into my chicken wings starter cooked delightfully in peri peri sauce served with sour cream and chivedip...mmmmm For mains I chose an option not many go for but let me tell you I'm a sucker for livers.... chicken normally but here I had Pan fried Calves liver with parsley, sage and mushrooms served with sautéed potatoes, lettuce leaf salad drizzled with Orleanais dressing. Now that might be a mouthful, let me assure you it really was delishisssimo!!!!!!!!!!! After it yes you have guessed, I had no room left for dessert and didn't even bother looking at the menu. Even if I have to reroute a little bit I always manage to pay this gem of a restaurant a visit when I am near the Wirral.... so should you my peeps so should youuuu!!!!!!

They serve a number of a la carte dishes, with steaks, different fish, salads, and a good variety of mains and specials. They have an early doors menu for those of you who love a bargain, and the food is just as good as that on their late evening menu. The service here is great, and they have a lovely seating area outside, which is great for a light lunch in the summertime! When you eat in Dining Room 107, you really feel important and looked after, and you really get the sense that this place is well managed, as the staff are extremely attentive and knowledgeable. They have a full bar and a nice wine list, as well as a selection of bottled beers! I would fully recommend this place, but make sure you book rather than just turning up at the weekend!
