As of yesterday 9/30/22 I made my 44th donation and I can say all 44 times have been a very great and comfortable experience. Shout out to Ms Jennifer, Ms Elissa and Ms Amanda! They're all very professional ladies and extremely friendly. They always follow procedure to the point and are very educated in what they're doing. They always make sure I'm comfortable and check up on me as I donate platelets for about an hour. I always do platelets since I do what they mostly need and throughout the hour they make sure I'm fine. They constantly ask if I'm okay and if everything is good and if I have plenty of snacks or drinks. When I'm done they always encourage me to take my time resting and continue to ask if I'm okay. I've never had a bad experience or bruised up veins since they do their job in A1 terms. The facility is always very clean and I set my appointments online and do the questionnaire online as well (saves you a lot of time). I can say for the most part I've always been in and out following my appointment time. The small talk that I have with the staff is also quite enjoyable, they're very wonderful people. The snacks are really tasty too, I specifically enjoy the baked cookies. I forgot the brand name lol. Every now and then they give out gift cards, shirts, tickets to events etc.. but honestly I just do it to do a good deed.

Second bad experience with this location, will not return. They are disorganized and not truthful and the assistance manager is a clown.

My neighbor suggested I try BioLife, so I went to this location on Richmond Avenue. There was only one person at the Check-In counter so I had to wait 20 minutes. Once I checked in, which took 5 minutes, I waited another 5 minutes before seeing the first screening unit. The screening took about 5 minutes. I then waited for 10 minutes to visit with a nurse for a physical exam. The exam lasted only 5 minutes. The nurse told me I was not eligible to donate because I had a pacemaker. That's odd. I've been donating for years with a pacemaker without a single problem. I asked the nurse why the disqualification wasn't posted on their website. The nurse didn't apologize. So, I wasted $45 on Uber and 1 hour of waiting in lines just to be denied. This place was a zoo. They were short staffed which caused very long lines. I only met one staffer who was pleasant, the rest appeared to be rushed and unconcerned. One nurse appeared to be frantic while trying to move customers along. After witnessing all of this, I can't imagine why anyone would go here except those who were hard pressed to get some money. Thanks, but no thanks. I'll continue to donate for free at Gulf Coast Blood Centers where I'm surrounded by pleasant staff and get free snacks, including Otis Spunkmeyer cookies.

I recently started going to the Westchase Center, which is closer to home. After several visits, I can honestly say I'm a fan. Carla, Ashley and Shonda are my hero's. These ladies really know how to take care of you. Their efficiency and customer service skills are second to none! Even when it's crowded, I've waited no more than 5 minutes for my appointment. I recommend completing the questionnaire on their website, which will decrease the time of your overall visit. My veins are small, they roll and are hard to find at times, but these ladies get it right every time. The center is clean and the chairs are comfortable, and recline back to help you relax. Each station has an individual TV with a remote, so you won't miss your favorite show. There's wi-fi if you choose to surf the web on your phone, or update your Facebook status. Or maybe you're just like me and you're spending that time checking in and commenting on Yelp. Whatever you choose to do, the center can accommodate you. The staff's friendly attitude makes you feel comfortable, and they remind you that giving blood saves lives. You feel like you are doing something positive for the community as the machine drains a pint of blood from your body. Blood is so important to keeping people alive, which is why every donation it called "the gift of life." Please remember to eat a decent meal and drink plenty of water before donating blood. The food will keep you from becoming dizzy and possibly passing out, and the water will hydrate you, which makes your blood flow faster. After donating, you can help yourself to the complimentary water, juice and snacks. If you are not a current donor, I urge you to rethink your position because you may need "the gift of life" one day.

There was no one to talk to. It is all sign-in at a kiosk, which is okay, but I walked to change from appt to walk in. I waited about an hour, which I did expect some wait time. They were already an hour behind. There were supposed to be 5 technicians, but only 2 were working - I guess the other 3 called in sick. I am glad I am not paying for this service; my employer is. I will suggest they change servcies.

I took my 2 year old to do a blood draw. After a whole 1+ hours of struggle, they drew half of what's required of the sample and told us to go the Texas Childrens. Don't let a child suffer if you don't have the skills/equipment! 1. Check in - all automated, there's no information about anything, how long the wait will be, any direction from the kiosk. I only learned after a kind gentlemen told me that we can check the queue on the TV in the waiting room; 2. Charge the maximum upfront - my insurance covers lab 100%, the technician draw up a bill $36+ and told me that this is the maximum they'd charge, they won't draw unless I pay, and that they won't do a bill to be mailed, and it's my responsibility to talk with my insurance - there's no customer service attitude at all; I don't think any other industry allows them to charge the maximum and for customer to argue to insurance to get refund; 3. Poor skill - the technician draw one of the two required tubes and there's no more blood coming, she repeatedly said my daughter is dehydrated, don't put blame on the patient when you don't have the skill to draw blood fully, my daughter was poked on both arms and she maneuvered the needle so harshly I can't stand to look. Just upfront refuse to take the order if you don't have the skill, you are just making a two year old suffer by going through a whole exercise and then discard the 1 tube that you already drew!

I've been visiting this BioLife location since it opened. Overall, I find that the extra cash,…read morecoupled with the opportunity to help those in need, makes for a rewarding experience. However, it does come with its downsides. The cash reward program changes often, so I recommend checking your email for any current deals. New donors usually receive attractive incentives, ranging from $800 to $1,000 for eight donations. Returning donors typically earn around $40 to $50 for their first donation of the week and about $60 for their second. You're allowed to donate up to twice a week, totaling eight times a month. I think it's best to donate for a couple of months, then take a break for a couple of months to give your arm a rest. The staff is generally very friendly and helpful regarding the procedures. However, occasionally, you might overhear them expressing frustration about being there or the number of people coming in--which is understandable; I do the same at my job. Speaking of the number of people, your visit could range from 40 minutes to up to 2 hours. I've seen the line wrap around the entire lobby, with what seemed like 50+ people waiting for vitals. In my experience, weekends and later weekdays tend to be the busiest times. What prevents me from giving a higher rating is the inconsistency in the quality of the venipuncture performed by the phlebotomists. Sometimes, the procedure is so smooth that you hardly feel the needle, while other times, you feel every bit of it. I'd say there's about a 50/50 chance of experiencing a painless procedure. I've been in sections where the phlebotomist stuck 2 to 3 people, then had to have someone more experienced come back through to readjust the needles because of no flow. My worst experiences have been when they stick my arm, can't find the vein, and then proceed to wiggle the needle around for 5 to 10 minutes. This is coming from someone with prominent veins, so don't assume that being lean will spare you from similar experiences. Once, a technician repeatedly asked if it hurt while probing my arm in various directions trying to find a vein. I told him, "Well, it isn't exactly the best feeling." Overall, if you need a little extra cash, don't mind a bit of discomfort, and have an hour or two to spare, I'd say go for it. Just make sure to eat beforehand and drink plenty of water. I skipped a meal before one of my appointments and ended up feeling every kind of sick at once.

I scheduled an appointment the next day for my blood to be drawn after explaining my situation to the manager of Gulf Coast Blood she told me my orders had not been received yet but I could come in either way and they would be able to draw my blood with or without the orders. When I get there the next day they check me in and after reviewing the check in info I filled out earlier that day the told me I could not donate since I was on the antibiotics the doctor who referred me prescribed. They told me until they received the orders from the doc they could not proceed since I was on medication. Ann (the medical assistant) was absolutely no help so I asked to speak to her manager who was even less helpful. I asked if they could call my doctor to obtain verbal consent and they told me no. When I asked what the difference was if I had the orders I would still be on the meds and the manager told me they would take it but discard it instead of donating, so I said ok let's do that now this is for my health reasons not for donation purposes and she said they could not do it since I did have the doctors consent. They were very unprofessional and did not even attempt to help.
