The Biryaniwalla is a small but popular takeout shop specializing in the Royal desi delicacy: The Biryani. This low-key counter service shop specializes in all types of Biryanis - from Veg Biryani, Chicken Biryani (bone-in and bone-less), Mutton Biryani (bone-in and bone-less), to Egg Biryani and Prawn Biryani. I was in the area and stopped by to look at their menu, noticing they have a special combo offer: Irani Chai (Hyderabadi Dum Chai) with 2 Karachi (Osmania) Biscuits for $3. Cookies and tea. Who can resist? I thought why not give into the chai and biscuit temptation. I would much rather do so supporting a local business. Years ago Irani Chai was introduced to Hyderabad by Persians who ran cafes and tea houses inside bakeries. While not as rich and creamy as a typical masala chai, I found the Irani Chai to be sweet, milky and decently spiced, a perfect vessel for dipping the accompanying buttery, sweet and salty Karachi biscuit. To dip or not to dip, that is the question. A quick look at their menu lists Vegetarian Starters which include Veg Manchuria/Gobi/Paneer, Dynamite Paneer, Dynamite Gobi, Paneer RR, Gobi Rr, Lemon Pepper Paneer/Gobi, Paneer 777, Gobi 777, Paneer Samosa (3 Pcs) or Veggie Samosa (3 Pcs). You can get 3 Pcs Veggie Samosa for $4.99 or 3 Pcs Paneer Samosa for $5.99. They also offer popular Street Food items such as: Punugulu (12 Pcs) - crispy outside, yet soft inside, deep fried round sliced fritters made usually with urad dal, rice flour or rava - and Mirchi Bhajji - deep fried green chilli fritters coated in gram/besan flour (my personal favourite). Also on the menu are a number of Vegetarian, Chicken or Mutton Hyderabad Curries, served with either white rice or Naan, priced under $15. All three categories offer versions of either Veg, Chicken or Mutton Entrees: Tikka Masala, Dum Ka, Butter Masala, Khorma, and Kachi Mirchi. Chicken Kabobs like Chicken Tikka Kabob, Malai Tikka Kabob, Tandoori Chicken (Half or Full size) and Tangdi Kabob are sold here too. Desserts of Gulab Jamun, Double ka Meeta (Bread Halwa or shahi tukra, a rich creamy sweet nutty bread pudding), Kurbani ka Meeta (a sweet rich and creamy apricot pudding), and Rasmalai (a sweet dessert rasgulla or paneer soaked in a flavoured sweet creamy milk). Have ordered Biryani a few times before from this place.. but decided this time to go pick up directly! Ordered vegetable Manchurian and Dragon chicken If you don't tell the spice level - I bet it's already spicy for anyone. But whoever knows Hyderabadi spice level will not say NO to this So far tried their Raju Gari prawns Biryani, pachi Mirchi prawns Biryani, chicken Biryani, Dragon chicken and dynamite chicken. This time gave vegetarian dish a try. .. not one not two but all the dishes I have tried so far are the best and the closest you could get to a Hyderabadi food taste (almost just like how it tastes in India) and I have to give it to this place. Also wish this was closer now I know how their food is no matter what you choose. Their menu is quite long and I am looking forward to try most of the menu. Unfortunately they didn't have double ka meetha which is also a Hyderabadi dessert. hopefully next time they do and I am going to definitely dig into it. Very disappointed with the food, I ordered palnadu mutton biryani, and I told them to keep less masala on it, they kept full of masala on it. Gave it a try based on ads on Facebook (of course I'm going to try a place that has "Biryani" in its name), and were quite happy. It's a take out place (and seems like that vibe even beyond covid times), so don't expect atmosphere or anything like that -- this is a place that serves biryani, and pretty good biryani. Also on that note, there's not a lot on the menu other than biryani -- so be prepared, that's what you're getting. But the biryani is good. I got the bone-in Hyderabadi Chicken biryani, and my wife got the boneless Ghee Roast Kaju Chicken biryani -- and we were both happy. If you want to go to a place where biryani and just biryani is their thing? This is the place. read more

The service was good. Wait time was 20mins for walk in, which I didn't mind. The rice was delicious and a good amount. I got the boneless mutton briyani. The meat wasn't cooked with the rice, just layered between. The meat was fine, if a bit colder than the rice. Oddly, the meat was not chopped up, it was left in large pieces. That was new for me. I asked for not spicy, but the clerk said it came medium. It was too spicy for me. The raita that came with was so watery. I kind of expected more from a place with biryani in the name. We live outside of the GTA and were passing through Scarborough on our way to Ottawa. around lunch time today, a Saturday, we thought to check out a locally owned restaurant. We love spicy food so thought to try out biryaniwalla, and wanted to order for pickup/takeout. Never having ordered from here and not knowing which item would be best suited to us, wanting to ask questions we tried calling this restaurant 10 times. no one picked up each time. And their voicemail isn't set up either. So frustrating. We walked in at 4:18pm and asked why no one picks up the phone At their restaurant to which the lady working the counter - rolled her eyes and said she "I dont know know, I just starteD her shift." if she just started - she wouldve started at 4pm, not at 4:15pm. Which means as we were calling for the last 20-25 mins, she was working. further, we asked her questions about food on the menu... and she spoke soooo fast. The menu titles aren't the easiest, especially for someone who isn't fluent in their food titles. she showed frustration answering questions. When we said "pardon", she again showed frustration. this really sucks - the customer service was so upsetting That even though the food was great - we won't be visiting & will def be sharing with friends and family of our negative experience with the staff here. please pick up your phone! is There any point in doing marketing if you dont pick up when customers try to contact you, before wanting to place an order. read more
