Great little coffee joint in Birchcliff neighborhood. Due to development, they have moved in the bottom floor of the House & Garden Company. (The mother and daughter own the two ventures.) Since their move, they now sell cards and flower bunches in addition to their usual Birchcliff merch, coffee and food. They have a rotating seasonal menu. For the fall I decided to try the Pumpkin & Hazelnut Chai Latte. When you put cinnamon on top it tastes just like a Gingerbread cookie! I also ordered a gingerbread cookie shaped like a flower basket from @gbcookiescompany. Pricing is more or less the same as before the move. The ceilings are much higher in the new space. The outdoor patio is now more private and serene. There were only two people working the til and making drinks so sevice is slower than a Tim's style joint. I was randomly out on a run and stumbled on my post run breakfast. I'm surprised The Birchcliff has such low reviews - I came back twice that week! The coffee is decent - but nothing really to write home about. Just a standard latte, nothing memorable. HOWEVER, the ham and cheese croissant is probably one of the best I've had in a while. She was loaded. The chocolate croissant is pretty good too (look at the structure!) The outside patio was also cute and spacious. It was a great space to just hang and chat or read a book! read more

This is a beautiful cafe in a very nice Scarborough neighbourhood. Coffee is good, with the standard choices of brewed or barista offerings. Also iced varieties for you who enjoy such things. Pastries are partially from Dufflet and partially from somewhere else. They also have a tea list, but sadly I'm not a big tea guy, so I can't comment with any expertise. I got a grilled feta wrap, which was tasty enough. Dufflet is always a winner, and their sugar cookies and chocolate chip cookies looked tasty, as dis their muffins and loaves There is a very nice outdoor patio. Service is efficient and polite. All in all, you could do worse that visiting the Bluffs and stopping by here before or after. I would definitely return to hang out. read more

This is one of the cutest cafes I have ever been to! The attention to detail in the decoration is great, and the food and drinks here are just the icing on the cake. I actually first tried something from here during the farewell event for line 5 at STC. There were booths for local businesses set up and The Birchcliff was one of them. I tried their pumpkin chocolate chip loaf, which was so moist and decadent. Afterwards, I really wanted to come and give their food a try, and was definitely not disappointed. I came to co-work with some friends, and tried their coffee and the caramel apple almond croissant (which is seasonal I believe). The coffee was fine, and croissant was amazing! During the winter, I tend to suffer heavily from cabin fever. A local cafe serving up a hot cuppa joe is the exact cure and The Birchcliff gets bonus points for its proximity. This coffee shop serves up a ton of caffeinated beverages ranging from drip coffee to cappuccino. They also offer up other types of drinks such as teas if you're not a coffee drinker. Lactose alternatives such as oatmilk will cost you a teeny bit extra, but they do offer it! Not only are their drinks superb, but they've got killer pastries. My love handles echo these sentiments. I personally love the raspberry danish - and the chocolate brownie, while dense, is a great gluten-free option. Only downer is that depending on the time of day, there may not be as much seating. I always find a seat on the high bench at the back, but a table makes it easier to work. If you need to hook up your gadgets, this place is limited with the number of sockets. They do make up for it with their homey aesthetic! read more

Loved this place! I went here In the middle of the day with my children for some croissants and hot chocolate. Unfortunately, when we went inside around 1, most of everything we were looking forward to try were sold out. We ended up trying the pear Danish and chocolate chip cookie. I had the macadamia nut latte, which was absolutely wonderful. Due to the Covid restrictions they have no indoor dining. They have setup heaters outside in their patio. This is located just by the lake on the east east end of Toronto/Scarborough! No matter how far the good coffee shops are.. takes me to places and I didn't regret driving all the way here. I have ordered a flat white and a croissant.. coffee was great and croissant was tasty! Also they have a very friendly customer service.. as the hour progressed people started coming and it became quite busy in no time. Wasn't expecting that for a shop which is not in the actual city but was happy to see and glad to know everyone enjoys the shop The interiors are so good and very well maintained overall. They just had a couple high school girls working the counter without any basic CS, including friendliness. I wouldn't spend more than $7 here. There are other cafes that really appreciate your business, but like I said I get why other people like the cafe for its look. I went around three and they still had most of the baked goods. Cheddar scone had great flavour but was dry. The egg salad croissant was made on the spot and quite fresh. The mayo could have been sharper and the eggs were cut into huge pieces which is not a fav for me but likely not an issue for many. The cheese and tomato salad had a good amount of basil. The Birchcliff is a beautiful cozy cafe. I went there to grab coffee and pastries. Apple croissant was very good. I ordered latte a couple of times. Depending on a barista, the taste of latte is different. One makes it like coffee milk and another make it like capuchino. It would be nice to have a cup of coffee inside the shop. read more

I met a friend here for coffee. She was raving about this being her absolute favorite place, even better than SB, and that I had to try their lattes. There was plenty of street parking in the area. The place was very quaint, but I was unfortunately underwhelmed by my latte. It was quite strong, and not as hot as I would have expected. A live edge wooden counter at the window and another communal counter mid-shop, adds to the seating provided by many tables and comfy "wicker" chairs. There are benches & 2 umbrellas out front. Beans from Brothers in Oakville, and yummy standard pastries. A few prepared sandwiches & salads are offered. My cappuccino was a little hotter than ideal, but well made otherwise. It is a beautiful cafe as far as aesthetics and ambiance. Some very nice people attend. Over the months have noticed that they expect tips everytime you purchase a beverage. I like to tip occasionally so it means something and I do. Too often the guy will go to put my change in the tip jar. Seriously presumptuous, this is not a dine in restaurant! You will get better service tipping each time and they will also greet you by name. Nice cafe and patio, great if you go early in the morning. Very often lunch items and pastries are sold out before 1pm. I don't understand why they can't figure out inventory after all this time. I've tried to like this place since they opened, and I have been reluctant to write my review but today's the day. Almost every visit I'm greeted with pained faces who seem more pre-occupied with their chatter than making drinks. Now I'm not asking for fake-happy or insincere chirpy, but at least a warm greeting from a place that serves coffee is usually an industry norm. Every cappuccino I have ever ordered from there was a latte. Today I even asked for one on the drier side, and it was still a latte. Yes, there is a big difference, and yes, expect that your patrons will be able to taste the difference. Espresso shots are pulled too long and taste bitter. It's not the coffee, because trust me, I take home Brothers' Roasters (GREAT COFFEE AND LOVE THOSE GUYS), and brew my own at home on an Aeropress. Birchcliff is the only place around where I can get Brothers Roasters without having to drive all the way to Oakville. Lastly - and this isn't the fault of the merchant - but on one day last year when my husband and I decided to have a seat, read magazines, and enjoy some coffee; an old man, who I assume is a regular (the baristas greeted him by name), decided to sit down with us and tell me straight out that the Philippines is a "swamp of a place" and that "flippos" and their food are "dirty". That's when I decided to never sit in there again because I do not feel comfortable, nor do I have any tolerance, to having my culture and heritage blasted in any kind of space, much less a coffee house. Really disappointing experience. The barista had clearly no idea how to make a flat white. I think he misunderstood it for a latte. The coffee was extremely weak. Another major issue are the hours. The target audience for this shop are rich housewives who have nothing else to do while their children are in school. But when I get home from work, they are already closed. I'll start off by saying that I really want to like the Birchcliff. It's a great space & something the neighbourhood really needs, however the coffee is horrible. After numerous visits, it seems that the staff have no idea how to make drinks. First visit, ordered a latte. Got the drink & there was so much foam I thought she gave me the wrong drink. Then I realized that I was the only customer there. I shrugged this off, and left to enjoy my now cappuccino. Second visit, brought in a friend. Both got lattes. Same staff working. Both ended up with cappucinos. This time they tasted like 5 shots of bad espresso covered in foam. I think I had 2 sips before I gave up. The last visit I got an iced coffee. Can't be that hard to mess up right? Wrong. I'm not sure what happened, but it was 90% milk, 8% ice & a drop of watered down brewed coffee. The Birchcliff gets 2 stars because they carry non dairy milk & another star for the lovely space. But please, make better coffee. read more

My girlfriend and I have tried this place a couple times and really do not get the warm welcome we deserve as paying customers. On top of that, the staff seems to be obsessed with talking to each other instead of the customers ! I find is really rude because other coffee shops down by the beaches pay 100% attention to the customer. They also really talk badly and fairly loudly about their management and how they think it should be run in a different way. I was sitting three tables from the front of the bar (where I ordered my latte) and i could hear them crystal clear bad mouth their owner or manager. Really didn't make my girlfriend feel comfortable at all. We ended up leaving our lattes half drank on the table and left. 7/10 for the lattes though. The have the house and garden company right beside, (also great and affordable) which is run by the mother of the girl who runs the coffee shop!
