The atmosphere of the restaurant is very cosy and the waiters are very friendly. im not much of a alchol drinker but their idea of bring your own alchol is an excellent idea as no other curry house offer this locally, this saves alot of money due to the credit crunch. Wish them all the best for the future.

Lemon Grass is a small, intimate Indian restaurant. They do not have a license to sell alcohol, but…read moreyou can bring your own (there's a Bargain Booze opposite) and they don't charge corkage. The food is reliably excellent, and a good price. They serve a wide range of dishes to suit most tastes, and a few more adventurous ones if you're feeling frisky! If you like Indian food, then I'd say you can order pretty much anything on the menu and guaratee that you'll be happy with it. The Juliette Roman is gorgeous, but huge so you might want share that one with a friend! It's worth booking a table if you're going at the weekend or if you have a large party, because there is limited space inside. No parking, but it is very close to the on street parking in the twn, so that shouldn't put you off at all. It is well within stumbling distance of the train station and Taxi rank if you're not going to be driving home. The waiters are brilliant, very chatty, friendly and aware. Despite not serving drinks, they do seem to notice when you need a bottle opener or a clean glass and provide it for you before you realise you want it!

What a warm welcome!…read more Stumbled upon this wonderful little country pub and was not disappointed. Went there on a Friday evening and had a wonderful time. Still-warm, freshly baked crusty bread with olive oil/balsamic was served to us while we pondered the daily menu of seasonal, fresh food. I had the lamb stew and the meat literally melted in my mouth. GF had the biggest steak I've ever seen and it was cooked to perfection (served with home cut chips and mustard on a big wooden block). The only disappointment was that I was too full to try anything from the mouth-watering desert menu - particularly the 'chocolate soup', which came with high recommendations from the landlady, Cristina, who was there to tell us about everything on the menu. After dinner, wander to the rear of the pub where there is a fabulous beer garden, complete with a small children's play area and lots of big tables with umbrellas. There's no commercialism in this little treasure, just a cosy place that was as lovely on a summer's eve as I'm sure it would be on a dark winter night. (we even got to play with the owners' puppy in the garden!).

The sauce that the duck was covered in was the plum sauce which I have to say was very tasty. The salad itself was nothing special and average. I thought they could dovbetter honestly. Preface to this: I have little authority on Thai cuisine. Despite my frequent trips to SE Asia,…read moreI've managed to avoid going to Thailand to this point and so I can't vouch for authenticity etc. I enjoy Thai food, but I never fell in love with it as many people have and tend to go to Thai places a few times a year. Anyway, with that out of the way... I was surprised when Tom Yum opened, given the competition across the road (a place which I tried and didn't think much of when it opened). However, it seems to be pretty busy most lunchtimes and evenings, so it's doing pretty well for itself. The menu here is pretty standard, there's nothing particularly out of the ordinary here (that's not necessarily a bad thing), but they do some interesting specials such as giant sizzling prawns. We ordered salt and pepper squid, soft shell crab, dumplings, and tom kha soup for starter. The starters were fine, nothing special but I was happy enough. Then the soup. Hmm. The soups come served in thick, ceramic bowls over a candle (the top of the bowl seems to be cold, mind). It's nicely presented, I'll give them that. I just didn't like my soup very much: it was too thick and I didn't like the balance of flavour - the sweet and sour elements were present (a bit sweet for me), but I didn't really taste much else. All in all, it was a little bit sickly for me. For the mains, I had a Massaman curry and some green veg with sticky rice. The curry had a lot of the same problems as the soup, it was just too thick and whilst the flavour was strong, I found it distinctly unbalanced and lacking in depth. I mean, it's fine, it just became a bit of a chore to finish, unfortunately. All in all, it's a shame as I wanted to like the place. The staff are nice and all, but I just didn't like the food very much. I guess I never expected much going in, but it just wasn't particularly enjoyable (and I don't mind eating food that's just fine whatsoever). Maybe it was just a bad day, but I can't imagine myself going back in a hurry.
