Beware Unfair £200 Cancellation Charges and Shifting Rules…read more I booked a table for 4 at The Artichoke and had to cancel with 30 hours' notice due to illness in our party. Despite giving more than a day's notice and trying to negotiate in good faith, I was immediately charged £200. The restaurant first insisted the charge was non-refundable under their terms. After much persistence, they offered to reduce it to £100 if my partner and I still dined. Then they said the £200 could be used as credit towards a future meal for two -- only to later email me stating it could only be redeemed against another table for four. This inconsistent and heavy-handed approach left me with no confidence in their integrity. I cancelled outright -- with no intention of ever returning. For a restaurant that trades on reputation, I was shocked at how rigid and unhelpful they were. If you're considering booking here, be aware: fall ill, cancel, or try to reason with them, and you may find yourself £200 out of pocket and treated without flexibility or fairness.

Food and service are good, especially the guy serve the wine. The only place we were not satisfied was the very noisy party upstairs, more like a bar instead of a Michelin star restaurant. The chicken is a little bit salty. Other than that, we were happy and enjoyed the dinner, especially the Chardonnay from England.

The Pomeroy Inn was one of those places that I'd always driven past but never actually tried…read more However, I can now finally say that it is well worth a visit. The interior of the pub is a sort of cross between traditional English pub and restaurant -- and the servers are friendly and efficient. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays they offer a set menu of £22 for two courses or £26 for three, with a variety of dishes on offer just on this menu. Some of these have the option to upgrade, and it was of this that I availed myself. I opted for the fresh scallops to start, and these were delightful! Served with chorizo and edible flowers, the smokiness of the scallops was beautiful. For mains, I chose a Wagyu burger and topped it with grilled halloumi, served with sweet potato fries and onion rings. The burger was cooked slightly medium rare which kept its meatiness intact, and the halloumi on top was an inspired addition. For dessert, a simple crème brûlée. Beautifully served with a strawberry on top and oat biscuits to the side, the vanilla cream in the dessert was one of the best I have ever tasted. All in all, this place is worth a visit. The prices aren't cheap, but nor are they expensive enough to leave you with an eye-watering check -- and the food is certainly worth the price!

Very intriguing mix of country-gastro-pub. From the menu to the decor to the staff you can tell…read morethat the Pomeroy is committed to creating a quality experience. The menu is eclectic touching on some pub classics (burger, steaks, fish and chips), to continental (pâte mousse) to American farm-to-table (pork belly) (they have Sierra Nevada on Tap!!!). I had the pâte to start and the pork belly with scallops for the main. Each course was well proportioned. The scallops were perfectly done but small. For the park belly I was expecting a pavé of pork belly confit. Instead i was served more of a pancetta roll (a little heavy on the pepper). The accompanying sides (brocoli and potatoes dauphinois) were excellent. The sauce was a perfect and didn't over power. Overall if your interested in a free-wheeling pub-night and want a homey cosy experience but aren't too concerned with a gourmet menu, keep going down the road to Little Chalfont and stop at the White Lion. If you want a more refined experience, but not too formal, the Pomeroy is a great spot. Definitely recommended. Plus the cocktails are quite good !
