Recently moved to the area and have brought my bike there a few times because they came highly recommended by friends but I can't say that I'm impressed. First time my bike came back with the rear derailleur having the same issue shifting. Second time my bike came back operating flawlessly but have a few issues. I had my fork serviced and they just gave it back to me without asking my weight to try to get it close to dialed for me....everyone is different but just thought that was strange they didn't ask. Also, they lost the cap for my bottom adjustment dials and they forgot to flip my XTR derailleur back to on. My chain kept falling off on my first ride and then I figured out why. I don't think I'm coming back to this shop. read more

October 22, 2023 my wife, took her flat tire to the Bikes Smith bike store to get it fixed. They told her she also needed a new tire and refused to just fix her flat. So she bought a new tire. They then told her that she also needed a new front tire. I am a very experienced bike rider. Her back tire was fairly well used but it was still usable and did not need to be replaced. In addition, her front tire was perfectly fine. A huge rip off for $135 read more

Recently I brought my bike in for a handlebar swap. I have a newer set of bars from another bike I gave my Son and he put the Road bike bars back on. Was in need of a full bike tune so called several shops in CC. I tend to ask lots of questions and found the staff at Bike Smith knowledgable, friendly and more patient with me than some of the other shops! In addition their price for a tune up was reasonable. Thought a few other shops were pretty high especially when you ask what exactly their tune up included. However what really sold me was I could schedule an appointment that worked for me, and they committed to having it finished in 3 days. All of the other shops gave me the same line "we are busy now so you can drop it off and we will get to it as soon as possible" and they could not really tell me how long that might be. However all of them said it would not be in less than a week! So what moved it from 4 stars to 5 is they finished the tune up early, called me and I was able to pick up my bike in 2 days! Also they washed and cleaned it so good it looked like it was new! I have washed my bike over the years and it has never looked as clean as that! As for the tune up they did a great job. My bike is 8+ years old and the chain and cables are stretched so I could no longer get it to shift into all of the gears which sucked every time I hit a big hill. Thought I might need new cables or a chain to fix. However they were able to tune and it again shifts into all gears smoothly with no problem! So I would definitely recommend The Bike Smith! read more

In the process of moving to Carson City and I was looking for mountain rental bikes to explore the city and the plethora of surrounding trails. Stopped in to see what they had and well the last two rental bikes were e mountain bikes. I've been riding mounting bikes since 1990 and recently purchase an e-gravel bike. All I can say is WOW....those bikes were FANTASTIC! Adam was great at making sure we were both comfortable with the systems and ensured the bikes were correctly adjusted for our respective size. My free hub was not spinning so I took it to the Bike Smith. They called stan's rims and found out my hub was still under warranty. So they worked with stan's to get me back on the trail all for free. It only took about a week to get it all done. If it weren't for them I would have likely just bought a new hub. I love The Bike Smith. They helped me with a Trek warranty issue several months ago and I've been in a few times since for service on my Downhill Bike. They are always knowledgeable and even when they have to order me parts, the turn around time is outstanding. I've never had to miss a weekend of riding, even when I ripped my derailleur off. Once on a Thursday they told me my brake pads were down to metal and they didn't have them in stock but could get them next day. They did, and then installed them, and I was on the dirt on Saturday. I usually work with Shawn, but Randy has helped me out too. They both have bike smarts, mechanic skills, and good customer service. read more

I'm a local with 2 bikes (mountain, road) and over 100,000 miles of bike commuting. This is a very good shop with courteous and helpful employees. On my last purchase (Specialized mountain bike) we had a lot of trouble with the brakes. They stuck with it and eventually upgraded the brake system with good results.
