The breakfasts were amazing, the hosts (located nearby at The Blue Dolphin Inn) were very friendly and accommodating, and the entire experience left us wanting more! Before our arrival we were given a code to enter the living space and our room, so it was very convenient to have such an easy check-in with no hassle. Plus was a warm welcome from Nana, the Inn's pet cat. She was really cute and friendly. The room itself was cozy and patios enough for the two of us. The room was spotless clean and loved how spacious the bathroom was, and how comfortable the bed was as well. As far as the complimentary breakfast we received. It was okay. It was a quiche, yogurt with fruit, a muffin, sausages, and orange juice, on both days. It was left by our door around 9 am the two days we were there. Now, for the negatives. Parking spaces are limited and each room doesn't have a guaranteed parking spot. They have misleading information on their website. If you come back after 8 pm, forget about finding parking there. You will need to park in Cambria Inn, their sister property, and walk up a very dark and dangerous road back up to the Inn, which is unsafe! When I let their Inn know about this parking situation, the night before, I couldn't reach anyone after 8 pm, so I was told to call Cambria Inn. The person who picked up was extremely rude, and told me to park anywhere there was parking, after I explained there were no spots available. Finally we ended up parking at the Cambria Inn. The next day, I let the J. Patrick house know about this parking situation and someone over text got super defensive and was trying to send me screenshots of there being parking, when clearly there was none when we arrived, and kept arguing with me about it, which left a really bad taste in my mouth, and in stress I ended up leaving my super expensive jacket, which I still haven't heard about from the Inn. It's unfortunate that this situation happened because I was really hoping that we would have a better ending to a special weekend! I will not be coming back here again!

The lady on the phone was super helpful and explained the contactless check in process. I arrived in the evening, parking is behind the main house. There is a code used to get into the building (and a friendly cat that will try to convince you they also are suppose to be in the building!) The sign says please don't let the cat in-- so it stayed out then greeted us again the next morning. The room clean, comfortable and the bedroom door had a security code too! I liked the contactless check in process and the ability to just keep my own schedule. They delivered breakfast the next morning between 8:30-9am in a picnic basket. It was quiet though I could hear the neighbor coughing - and there was a wall heater that worked great though I wasn't initially sure if it was the heater or a fan. The room was warm but got chillier over night- so I used it in the morning. I didn't use the fireplace. The shower and water pressure were lovely. And checkout was a breeze. I will say the cell reception in the area can be challenging so make sure you know your room code. Nice place, liked that it was smaller and quieter. Didn't take pictures but I stayed in the Kerry room which was exactly like the online photos.

From the easy self check-in, to the late afternoon lounge and tea/treats, to the DELICIOUS breakfasts, to the comfort and beauty of our room -- everything was PERFECTION. The location is ideal (walkable to everything!), the grounds and gardens were intoxicating, and the Amish furniture store next door was incredible! We did NOT want to leave! We adored our private balcony off our room and every accommodation had been thought of. The only thing I'd advise is a microwave for guests in the Black Barn lounge room so we had the ability to reheat food. Perhaps there is already one in the kitchen area, but we didn't want to be rude and enter the closed door as it may have been just for staff. Oh! And the staff? INCREDIBLE!!!! Bruce and his team were inviting, helpful, and we felt as if we'd known them all for eons! We will be returning this winter to enjoy not only the main lounge fireplace but the room fireplace! Located on the second floor, it's spacious and serene. Mornings begin with a delicious breakfast buffet, and guests have 24/7 access to a common area stocked with treats and beverages. Free WiFi and parking are included. With only ten rooms between the two buildings it's an intimate stay. Plus, it's just a three minute drive to Moonstone Beach. I'm in my 40s but spiritually about 60, ready to retire, move into a 55+ community, and spend my days exploring bed & breakfasts, lighthouses, beaches, and forests. We're always the youngest at the breakfast table and I love it. If you're drawn to slow mornings, peaceful surroundings, and old-world charm, this is it. Daily happy hour with mixed drinks and an appetizer, all served in an inviting Social room. There's even a giant fire pit in the back to enjoy after dinner, a chance to socialize with other visitors or just relax on your own. The staff is amazing, very personable and well trained. They're happy to have a conversation with you about growing up in the area etc. They even went the extra mile to offer me a free bottle of wine when they heard about a mishap I had with one I had bought at a tasting room in town (dang I forgot to go back and get it!) I highly recommend this location, within walking distance to so many eateries, shops and wine bars.

If you like a low key, cozy, quiet and intimate place to stay with a special someone, this is the place to be. I've stumbled on this b&b on tripadvisor, while I was looking for a hotel to stay in for the long thanksgiving weekend. I've never stayed at a B&B before, and since my bf and I were on a budget, we opted to try this out. What a pleasant surprise it was! To start off, they only have 2 rooms. Mind you though, it's not just any room. This place is at par with 3-4 star hotels because of the service and attention to detail. You don't have to bring anything because they think of everything! From fluffy bathrobes and fuzzy slippers, to soft comfy bed with a thousand pillows, complimentary candies (bowls and bowls)and cookies, even popcorn, dental floss, couple bottles of wine!!, cans of soda and juice...yeah they're free! Eleanor together with her hubby Bill are the innkeepers and they make sure everything is going great during your stay. They have a welcome wine and cheese tray during your arrival. Although my bf and I didn't get the time to have this wine and cheese because we were running late for our hearst castle tour, they ask when the most convenient time is for you to have it. Okay, so they keep you happy and fat! In the morning, they bring you a 'pre-breakfast' tray with your favorite hot beverage, some fruits and a big pastry to share with your hunny. Then breakfast is served at the common kitchen at 9am and be prepared to skip lunch. Eleanor makes a wonderful breakfast. During our stay, we had scrambled eggs, fresh fruit salad, homemade quiche, her special olalieberry french toast (5 stars!), ham, potatoes, and then there's toast. I might missed out a few but here's a guarantee--you won't leave hungry! You can even request something for breakfast, and she's gonna insist you speak up. There were so much food on the table, we really couldn't think of anything else. The room also had cable tv for the couch potato..but really, in a pretty place like Cambria and nearby Paso Robles where there's so much to do, who'd stay indoors during the day? Since this place only have 2-3 rooms, reservations in advance are highly recommended. At $115/night with a 5 star service, this is definitely a steal! They absolutely made our first B&B experience something to look forward to in our future travels. While Orchard Hill no longer serves breakfast, we were lucky enough that MaryAnn, who is a retired chef, would be our hostess during our time here. She invited us to join her for a delicious Blueberry Creme Brûlée French Toast breakfast with sausage and fresh fruit On morning. Yumm! She's an excellent chef and great company. The Garden View room is spacious and cozy all at once. The private balcony looking over the property is perfect for enjoying your morning coffee, or evening wine. We'll try not to let another five years go by before our next stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Carriage House - everything that we could possibly need was provided - your usual careful attention to have everything there, including decaf coffee and sweetener, as well as the very welcome cake, the vases of flowers and other details were much appreciated, and the bottle of wine was really excellent.  And everything everywhere was notably clean - kudos to the cleaning crew!
